Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: May 1st through May 7th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (every Sunday morning). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

  1. Morning all! So beautiful here this morning – actually quite cool, in the 60’s – I think it got down into the 40’s last night, VERY unusual for north Florida this time of year. And today bright sun, clear blue skies, wonderful!

    I am growing tired of the Bernie dead enders at DKos, but there aren’t many of them left, I don’t think – OPOL, bobswern, slinkerwink, a few others keep diarying, but reality has to set in at some point, doesn’t it? I’ve been thinking about the WOW guild, Wreck List, that Denise and I are officers of, as a kind of barometer, as we have quite a few strong Bernie supporters there, although we have a rule not to discuss the primaries in guild chat which has successfully kept the peace. Still, it kind of leaks out every once in a while – there are only two Hillary supporters on my raid team (me and Tvath, Dee) the remaining 12-13 either support Bernie to one degree or another or are Canadian and only concerned with keep Trump out of the White House. Last night, I got some hints that some of them are still holding out for a possible Bernie win, which tells me they’re just not paying attention to what’s really going on – but I tried to stress and there seemed to be agreement, that even if they don’t like Hillary, what’s impt is a Democrat in the White House, if ONLY for the Supreme Court. I’m hopeful they’ll all come around – I certainly think our guild, which was founded as an explicitly political liberal haven in WOW, should have a position that all guild members should vote Democratic in the fall. Staying home is not an option, IMO.

    OK, off to play some WOW (see you there Dee!) and get my homeowners’ association Treasurer’s Report done for tomorrow’s meeting, so I can go into my office and make copies there. Everyone have a great day!

    • I think it is possible that the more casual Sanders supporters (not the deadheads) don’t realize that the primary is essentially over. Certainly if they are on his email list, they are being told that he is on a path to victory! So you can’t blame them. I hope that when Hillary is nominated at the party convention, that they realize that we will need everyone’s vote. Things are pretty unsettled – it will not be a traditional Republican coalition supporting Trump. I have no idea how they will even poll people, where his support will come from. He has won about 35% of Republican Party primarygoers, people who do NOT reflect America. How many of the more traditional Republicans buy into a Trump presidency is anyone’s guess. I won’t trust any polls I see between now and November and will focus instead on getting people to the polls.

  2. Good morning, 47 cloudy and breezy in Bellingham today. I’ve got a busy day with the insulation contractor here this morning and the appraiser this afternoon. So no pool for me today, and tomorrow I know where I won’t be……TMT indeed!

    Donald Trump to visit Lynden Saturday

  3. 42 at dawn and heading for 80 on this bright and sunny Friday. Almost made it to 100 KWHs for the month yesterday, so close I’ve already crested it today. Read RonK’s diary – a lovely respite from all the crud out in the wide, wide world.

    Still working on my Summer Payrolls spreadsheet – need to get it all in one place before I start entering stuff, which I need to do before End of May Payroll runs (so I’ve got almost 2 weeks). Still have a convoluted travel claim to sort out but I think I have all the pieces to finally deal with it. Tracking down one last forgetful person for April Leave, which I have to enter today. Have some budget stuff I need to work on. Fortunately I’ve got until the middle of June before that has to be finalized. Busy, busy, busy – right up to when I take off for NN (need to remember to reserve the rental car for that).

    I see Hillary’s already clobbering Trump – not only with his own words but also with the words of the rest of the R party. Attagirl! :) Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  4. Good morning, meese! Saturday …

    It is 61 degrees in Madison on its way up to 67. Morning clouds and afternoon sun are in the forecast.

    I love the Republican talking points about Trump. The memo must have said to use the words “we cannot afford a third Obama term” because it is being used by both the #NeverTrump’ers and the #TrumpOrBust’ers. HAHAHAHAHA!! If Hillary wins the Obama 2012 states, where President Obama is still pretty popular, guess what? She wins the presidency!! Please please PLEASE!! Call this “Obama’s Third Term”!!! Right now President Obama’s job approval is 51%, 82% among Democrats, 61% among millennials.

    Meanwhile, William “Bloody” Kristol is trying to convince Mitt to run as a third party candidate as a Traditional GOPer, possibly to position themselves for their party to be the one that rises from the ashes of Trumpaggedon. Excellent idea! Carry on … or is that carrion?

    The president is wishing everyone a happy mothers day in today’s Weekly Address. Since that is a Hallmark holiday, and one that not everyone celebrates, I will probably post his press conference from yesterday afternoon and simply include his good wishes in the comment threads.

    See all y’alls later.

  5. Good morning Meese.
    I’m still burned up by people who are co-signing the ugly “protests” outside of the Hillary event in CA – and justifying terrorizing children. Nothing “revolutionary” about screaming “fuck-you” at people.

    ARGH!!!!!!!!

    • I saw those Tweets. And the terrible people who ripped up a little girls autographed Hillary sign a few days ago. :( Nice friends you got there, Bernie Sanders.

    • Rachel did try to ask him about that last night. He was all “protests outside an event are totally fine”. She was incredulous and tried to be specific about the hateful language & tearing up signs, and he just went on & on that that’s free speech. I really hate him.

  6. Supposed to be gorgeous again today. 90s start next week. Maybe today will be the day I finally get on my bike.

    Read an article about how the Tories lost the London mayor’s race by being racist and the headline gave me the earworm from U2: Where Did It All Go Wrong. And after an election & 70 days of negotiations and several votes, Ireland ended up with the same PM as before. The Irish papers I follow were pretty funny about it. Election day in Austin today for the Uber/Lyft hissy fit election. (the City said there should be finger print background checks, they said no, the City came back with “how about we encourage fingerprint checks?”, they wrote their own ordinance & now we’re having an election. The good news is they’ve offended a lot of people by spending $8 million, which is so much more than has ever been spent here. I hope they don’t let the door hit them on their way out of Austin. I hate corporate bullies)

    • The Purity Wing of the “Democratic” Party are NOT going to like that speech.

      • The Purity Wing of the Democratic Party thinks Obama is a war-mongering neo-con just like they think Hillary is. When they didn’t get their unicorns in 2009 (while he was keeping us from a major Depression and she was repairing our international relationships), they became just about as anti-Obama as the Rs are.

  7. Good morning, 51 and sunny in Bellingham today, and I don’t have an agenda for the day! Getting the electrical work done, the insulation re done, and the appraisal done was a big push so I’m hoping for a relaxing day in the garden.

    Trump’s rally in Lynden this afternoon isn’t playing well with many in Wa State…..

    Plans for Trump rally in Western Washington get chilly reception

  8. Happy Saturday, Meeses – it’s 85 and very sunny at 5:15 p.m. CDT in Fay., AR. Over 20 KWHs for the day and over 140 KWHs for the month so far. Just got my new dishwasher – a “gold series” Whirlpool (still made in America) with a few dings on the door so basically even with delivery, installation, hauling off the old defunct Kenmore (18 y.o. got on closeout in 1998) and a 5-year part and labor warranty I paid 2/3s the list price. Also just finished grilling (electric grill) 5 weeks’ worth breakfast sausages and pork sirloin chops for this week’s dinners. Hope everyone’s day was good. {{{HUGS}}}
