Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (every Sunday morning). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

  1. Came home early, just wasn’t up to it. I’ll try again this afternoon. good news is I get to watch AMJoy with all my twitter friends — need all the back & forth & support. (at the workout, we all hugged each other & talked about what a hard week it was)

      We all have a lot that we want to express to her. Sit down, cry yourself out & write her a cathartic letter or send a thank you card.

  3. Good morning, 61 and cloudy in Bellingham. Between election angst and the time change my internal sleep clock needs a reset. I keep telling myself naps are real sleep, but my foggy mind doesn’t agree.

    RonK and a truck and trailer full of stuff arrived home yesterday afternoon, so this morning we will unload everything into yet another storage locker. I don’t have the focus or energy to deal with it now but when I can it will be easier to manage,

    Kshama Sawant should’ve blasted Trump when it mattered

    It’s becoming clear that Trump didn’t win the election so much as Democrats lost it, when disenchanted liberals either didn’t show up or voted third party. Exactly as Kshama Sawant urged them to do.

    Liberals seem infected by a purity virus — a delusion that politics should be about ideological consistency or “voting your conscience.” It has never been about these things, and never will be. President Obama loped around the country warning about this, saying, correctly, that politics is the art of compromise, of incremental gains, of making hard, unclean choices.

    One of Obama’s most unappreciated qualities is that while he comes in a smooth modern package, he has old values. Here he was hammering home the most conservative of chestnuts: Success comes from plodding work. It comes from showing up.

      What 3rd party voting says: “Your feelings about your vote are more important than the consequences of your vote.”

      That should be etched in stone and then thrown at every knothead whose purity kept them home on Tuesday or who wasted a vote. If I thought we learned a lesson, I would be more hopeful but I don’t have a lot of confidence that we will.

  4. 40 at daybreak heading for mid 60s and sunny again today. Sunny is still not getting over 7 KWHs right now. How much of that is shade from the oak tree and how much is just angle of sun and daylength I don’t know.

    Not doing as well as I thought – the routine of going to work held me together I guess. At the Market this morning I found myself choking up every time I started to talk to someone. The new group at GOS is helping some. At least we’re supporting each other and tossing around ideas. At the moment everybody’s wearing safety pins. Discussing letters and calls to our congresscritters – Ryan has already brought up voucherizing Medicare and you know privatizing Social Security is next. Which scares the hell out of me and just about everybody I know. Well, we’ll either stop him or die – and if we’re going to die we might as well die trying to stop him.

    Got some chores to do – taking down my political signs for one – the Hillary stuff will be carefully folded and put in a box in my closet – and a bit more shopping when I can get myself under control enough not to start crying in the grocery and pet food stores. Looks like my gas range is going out – need to make calls about whether to repair or replace. One foot in front of the other. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  5. Morning all. I don’t have a lot to say – I think I’m suffering the second wave of depression. There’s not even a good opera for me to listen to today, alas. But I will leave here the scariest thing I saw on Twitter just now before I turned that off as well – Democrats only control 13 state legislatures which is 26%. If they lose one more, they fall below the percentage needed to stop constitutional amendments. Think about that.

    I’m not sure I even can, to tell the truth – if the Democratic Party leadership, including Pres. Obama, does not step up and actually lead, actually come up with strategies to keep Trump a one termer and limit his damage in office, this country will be unrecognizable in short order.

    Gonna go play some WOW and try to take my mind off it for a while. Be well everyone.

    • I saw that Tweet and (thankfully!) clicked into it. They would still need to pass with 2/3rds majority in both the House and Senate and I cannot imagine the Republicans ever having 66 Senate seats. If they did, we would be screwed in so many other ways it would pretty much not matter!

      I am actually feeling better, I think because I have a big work project that is keeping me occupied.
