It Takes A Village: Evening Live Blog – 2/1

Evening Live Blog — A Place for All to Come Together and Discuss the Day’s Events!

The days and weeks ahead are going to be a nightmare. Trump is going to try to destroy so much of the hard work the Obama Administration accomplished. We can not be passive, we must stand up and Resist. Resist the Repeal of the Affordable Care Act, Resist the De-funding of Plan Parenthood, Resist everything they want to tear apart… RESIST!

Welcome new meese! In the time honored tradition of “rearranging history on the Internet”, we have backed up to last night for an evening live blog as the inaugural Village post at the Motley Moose.

First order of business will be getting everyone signed up and logged in. You can post comments using a name and email address but until you are logged in you can’t Fierce (like) comments and posts … and you can’t write! :(

Here are the folks who commented on 1/31 and up to about 6am on 2/1. You have been added to the user list.

If you are on this list and still not able to log in, let me know and we will get the Moose to reset your password.

A bunch of new people wandered in throughout the day on 2/1 and early this morning (2/2). They will be gathered up and added later this morning and a complete list will appear here shortly.

Washed ashore on 2/1 and 2/2, not added yet:

I am all caught up! Let me know if I missed anyone.

To log into a WordPress blog, you must have cookies enabled. You can get here by clicking My Moose from the menu. If you are already logged in, it takes you to your dashboard; if you are not logged in, you will see this:

The first time you log in, you must use the password the Moose gave you. After that, you can change your password in your Dashboard. See this FAQ: How to Log In.

Speaking of menus, here is where the Village posts will be linked so that they are easy to find.

There will be more information added about how to post and link.

Have fun!!

UPDATE: As promised, posting information.

The easiest way to create a new post is to clone it. If you work from the “It Takes A Village: TEMPLATE” post, you will have all of the set information to make sure it ends up in the correct category for your peeps to find it.

First, from your Dashboard, choose All Posts. You will see a list that shows the current posts. Click on Drafts to see only the Drafts.

If you click Clone, a new Draft will show up in the list cloned from that draft. Click Edit to edit the new post and modify it.

If you have a post that is NOT set up as a template but which you want to use a lot of the links or images from, you can clone it from inside the post. Click Edit and then choose “Copy to a new draft”. A new draft will be created and you will automatically be placed in it.

This image also shows some of the other parts of a post: adding Media (images), Previewing and Publishing.

I hope this is enough to get started!

  1. Let me know if you are still having problems logging in!

By the way, the Moose has a timed edit feature so you can go back and fix your typos and malformed links. We don’t believe that you should be punished for your mistakes by seeing them FOREVER on the Internets. Also, Editors and Admins may visit your comments to fix your links and resize your photos. You’re welcome! :)

    • The list of recent arrivals has been updated in the post. They will be added shortly.

      Also, MomentaryGrace has been “Author”ized!

I set up an “It Takes A Village” template that people can use (or not use!) to get started with. I will add a section to this post (it is too complicated for a comment) later this morning.

      • Thank you so much JanF!!! It is amazing how a little kindness and inclusion make such a massive difference, not kidding, #willnotcry! <3 =^^=

    • UPDATE:

As promised, I added information about how to create a new post into this post. I hope it is enough to get you started – I added a TEMPLATE to bfitz and reesetheone to get us started.

Now it is time to head offline. I will monitor the moderation queue but won’t be where I can add users or modify posts. See ya!

    • JanF, I should warn you that I just started sending K**mails to the folks on the members list at the orange, letting them know about our new home. I have no idea how many will make the decision to ask for an add here, but if you get a sudden influx of requests, you now know who to blame. The good news is that I only did 1/3-1/2 of the list and won’t be able to send more mail until Monday!

      • Thanks for the heads up! I added 6 new users this morning and I think I am caught up for now.

    • UPDATE Friday, 2/3:
I think that what might be happening to some of you is that you are clicking on the “Lost your password?” link on the Log In screen. Don’t! I don’t think it is working properly and I do think that it is causing browser cookies to get messed up.

Proper procedure: log in using the Moose provided password, change your password after you get logged in. If you need a password reset, let me know.

I updated the FAQ: Getting Started at the Moose to include some troubleshooting tips.

I will shortly be updating the FAQ: How to Log In with a few more notes including the one below.

Bottom line: If you are commenting as a Guest, you will have your comments held and you can’t “Fierce”(like) posts or comments.

Here is how to tell if you are logged in. If you see the blueish box below the comment, you are a Guest. If you see the Fierce/Unfierce button and the Edit links, you are logged in:

One more thing (this will be put into the Log In FAQ): every once in a while, WordPress gets confused about your log in. If you click Preview and your comment shows it will be posted by Anonymous, you did not just become a notorious Internet person (although you might already be!) – WordPress does not know who you are any longer. If you click Post Comment without logging back in, the comment will be lost. Instead, click into your comment text, select it, then copy it. Log in (by clicking the “Howdy, (yourname)” at the top of the screen then “(yourname)” and logging back in. If you had Remember Me checked, the password will still be in the Password field – as password protect characters – and you can just click Log In. Your paste buffer should have your saved off comment. This happens to me about once a week so I usually SelectAll/Copy my comments before I preview/post. I don’t trust computers with my words!!

    • OK Jan, I’m looking for how to embed pictures… see only bold, italics, link, quote, spellcheck, make comment window bigger… please hit me with cluebat when you have a chance :)

  2. Morning! I made the mistake of not using the given password and it threw me off for a minute. I thank you again Jan for the Hospitality!

    • Morning rto. It’s starting to feel like home. I’m sure glad to have you and Batch back in my diary world.

        • Hey reesetheone – Could one or both of you maybe work with JanF to do the next post? I don’t think SBG’s here to set up a schedule/rotation but if one of you two could do it, it would be great. Probably start with dailies like HNV did, then see what the traffic requires. (Hope we can attract some more of the old HNV authors, too – spread the work load. heh) {{{rto}}}

  3. Thank you, Jan! What a nice welcome this morning. From reading previous Meese morning posts, weather reports are given. So, in that vein, on my drive to work my car told me it was 1 degree this morning. I have no reason to disbelieve it.

    • Ugh. That’s brutal. That was us in MI two or three years ago (but not this year…YAY!). When we were going through that, I started comparing our daily highs and lows to Anchorage AK, and they were balmy in comparison.

      • Hi Do and other Peeps!!

Where in MI are you?? I’m in Door County, NE WI, and we’re sooo cold brrrr…7 with wind chill of -9.

Can you guys believe the Braggart-in-Chief at Prayer Bkfst??? What an impious dunce. Shame on the “evangelicals” for supporting this man.

It gets worse by the minute…Gorsuch is an ass under his dignified mien, I’m 100% against and would be regardless of the Merrick G. travesty.
Oh almost forgot to thank Jan for the space!! Bigly :)

        • I’m in northern Macomb County so about 45 minutes N/NE of Detroit. Fun fact: it’s closer for me to drive to Canada than it is for me to drive to Detroit.

We’re in the low 20s today which isn’t too bad, but there is a bit of a wind today. On the other hand, Day Two of seeing the sun!!! We went about a month with grey, overcast skies, so this is a real treat. Any morning I have to put on my sunglasses before driving is a good day.

  4. Hi Village Meeses – will do a regular check in later but heading to the dealership with the car – again – and we’ll see if they can fix the alarm system this time. {{{HUGS}}}

  5. Hey everyone! So happy to have been invited over and to find you all here. Especially reesetheone, it was a long couple of days without you!

Thanks JanF for being so generous with your space :)

  6. I may be just a day late for this. Good morning, everyone. Thanks to all of you for putting this all together! It’s so good to see all these familiar names! I am off to work soon. Take care!

  7. Good morning. Taking advantage of the format here to change my handle from Melaka to Mel. Just feels more like me.

Wish I could change it on DKOS but I’m stuck.

    • Well, actually you can’t change your user name from “Melaka” to “Mel” – but I can set it up as an alias that you can log in as. Would you like me to do that for you?

  8. Morning Villagers! Love the new digs! Fantastic couch, throw rugs & drapes! Purple is so soothing. Back in a bit! =^^=

  9. Good morning all! Thank you, thank you, thank you JanF for opening your home to us. It’s so nice to not be squeezed in the bus, although I hope one of the Villagers is making sure the bar supplies by the rear axle are being packed up and brought here.

On a more serious note, for those who still have a foot in the Orange, please consider K**mailing other villagers and let them know about our new home. Although posting will continue there for awhile, if the ban hammer comes down on our home there, we’ll lose the ability to use group messaging. So if everyone would try to reach out to people as individuals and let them know our new address, we’ll be that much further ahead when that day comes (and I firmly believe it will be “when” not “if.”) I’ll be sending Michaelholmans and rugbymom the information today. Please feel free to reply to this with other names, particularly of people who may not bother/know about reading the group messages.

    • Over at DK if you click on the Village community name on the sidebar, it takes you to the diary list, but on that sidebar there’s a place to click on “members” – everyone who is a member or even has been invited but hasn’t responded (like Lysis and scan) are listed. It’s not in alpha order – I’m not entirely what the “order” is other than permission levels – but it’s a way to check and see if you’ve forgot somebody. The names are “hot” – they go to the person’s profile page and you can kosmail them from there. That’s not going to help with the folks who just visit and haven’t asked to become members, but hopefully they’ll track us down and ask if necessary.

      • I probably would have figured that out eventually, but given my usual MO, it would have been after I did it the hard way!

I’ll try to do what I can today. Tomorrow is going to be impossible, because work is going to be crazy busy, but as long as we don’t get agitators in our orange home, I think we’ll be safe for awhile. And that’s one thing I want to stress with people when I contact them; this isn’t a binary choice right now. As WygalinCA put it, “We’re preppers”!

  10. Good morning all. The Motley Moose Inn is lovely. Excellent food, all the caffeine we’ll ever need, and other liquids for those who prefer something stronger. I heartily approve of the “All pets welcome” sign.

    • As a native Wyomingite, I admit to having never seen a live moose. I’ve looked. I think this is just as lovely as the Old Faithful Inn. I’m gonna stay a while. I’m gradually weaning my self from Kos.

  11. Well I got back from Chicago trip to see Hamilton – it was great! I figured out what was going on with the village while on the train home. I was here before but mostly lurked, found my login didn’t work but Jan got me fixed up.

    Thank you Jan.

Reese, I took my heavy down coat to Chicago but wouldn’t have needed it there. Chicago was dry and not too cold. Got back home to snow and cold.

And, Yes! The comment editor works!

  12. {{{JanF}}} – bless you for building the Village foundation here by the Moose Pond. You folks know me, I am not inclined to rant in the first place – but it is such a relief to be here and not worry about who’s watching and waiting for something they can run to Admin with. {{{Moose Village Peeps}}}

    • Thanks for thinking of this as an alternative, bfitz. Are we waiting for the ban hammer to come down before exiting the Orange site or are we maintaining both? If you know.
