It Takes A Village…TGIF Edition!

Many of those who actually voted for real estate tycoon-reality show TV host Donald J. Trump for President last November now have “buyer’s remorse” over their decision.

What I find so ludicrous is that there are still morons in our country that support the ape acting like he’s presidential when that is far from the truth.

Most new Presidents use a “first 100 days” to define their Presidency.  Halfway through Trump’s first 100 defines a manic President out of control in a White House where the staff still has trouble finding light switches and the doors that lead into and out of rooms.

I join with many others who shake their heads and wring their hands over the incredible mess in our nation’s capital. If it’s not over Trumps narcissistic ways, chaos in the White House, the lies coming from nearly every spokesman in the WH or anyone associated with the conservatives, the turmoil created by the Trump-Russia connections and all too many people shrugging it off as nothing, the turmoil created by the WH in the far-east, and these are just the tip of the iceberg.

There are two things even more damaging to our country and the gov’t that we elect but can’t seemingly govern for the people.

The Republicans utter lack of showing any compassion for anyone but themselves and their partisan and prejudiced  policies is a large part of why we are where we are right now. While Trump isn’t who most wanted as their President they are seemingly fine with it now as long as they are given free rein pushing through their conservative dismantling of our societies forward progress and installing repressive policies meant to demean and dehumanize anyone they see as liberal and beneath their status in life. The one thing I think they are forgetting is that they are elected by the citizens and work for us and can be voted out, which we are all hoping every available voter is educated enough on their BS so they thrown to the gutter.

The other thing we should be looking at and fighting against is pseudo President Bannon’s dismantling of the gov’t apparatus. There are numerous slots within any administration that need to be filled to carry out the everyday workings of the gov’t and some are high level positions. As of now there are 512 posts which Trump has failed to put forth a nominee. For instance the State Dept. is lacking at 111 positions and DOD has 50 un-staffed positions. This article from the WaPo gives a good breakdown of this and why it’s an alarming catastrophe in the making…

  1. Thanks for the roundup Batch! I spoke to my aunt and uncle in Australia and they wondered what can be done to resist Trump. I’ve been keeping my head down for the most part but even that isn’t necessarily sufficient – as demonstrated by the killings and violence directed at people from South Asia. Will have to think about what I can do to resist (and #Purrsist)

    • Whatever you do, protect yourself. Allies can and should do the heavy lifting now (that is me, a white woman).
      {{{{{{{basket}}}}}}}}}

    • {{{basket}}} – do what you need to do to protect yourself as best you can. This movement already has more dead heroes than we want. I’ve always been a follower of the adage “he who fights and runs away lives to fight another day” – I hope you are, too. And yes, I worry about you just like I worry are rto. Old white women like me are invisible. They’ll kill us by cutting our resources and starving us out. Young(er) not-white males have targets painted on their foreheads. White Light of Love and Protection surround you.

  2. good morning Batch, it’s nice to see you this morning. We’re getting much nicer weather and I have consoled myself by staying outside trying to get the jump on the weeds this year. Those I can do something about. Thanks for the interesting reading and something to mull over while I’m digging in my dirt.

  3. Guess it’s warmer where reese is in the windy city. 34 where he is, 28 where I am, and windy.

    Thanks Batch.

    Going out with a friend today. Sometimes you need to take a break from this stuff.

    • Being around family and friends is helpful…. doing that alot lately. Unfortunately i can’t turn my samsung cell loose so, i still tweet and post !

  4. {{{Batch}}} – thank you for the TGIF roundup. Don’t see you enough any more. I don’t have time for 3 sites so right now MM and DK are it. I promise I will join The Village at #sob when/if I ever get the time, if only to re-connect with our scattered Village.

    Don’t care for the Washington Post cartoon – it starts with the assumption that the ACA is actually as bad as the Rs say it is and then goes on to suggest that the only difference between “ObamaCare” and “TrumpCare” is who’s driving it. Since we know the ACA is quite successful and mostly needs expanding and TrumpCare will undo just about every good thing the ACA does, that’s not an analogy acceptable to me. Your (Batch’s) thesis that humor is the only way to get Truth across right now is valid – but there must be Truth in that humor in the first place. (Now if the point is to sucker the Alt Right into voting against it because it doesn’t actually repeal the ACA – that is a useful purpose of that cartoon.)

    Need to get back to work now. Back as soon as I can. {{{Village Peeps}}}

    • Weve been discovered by some at the orange monster…. they don’t like us too much at sob…… meh!

      Smartphones are awesome on the go! Even at home, my kindle and laptop are collecting dust as i do my blogging via cell…. easier to hide im the real world as well.

      Everyone at sob says hi, and we haven’t forgot about ya!

        • BMcCoy came into the evening thread late last night. Bitching about us still litigating the primary and then about SOB. I’d logged off before he came in so read this morning.

      • {{{rto}}} – well, the name of the site is kind of provocative as far as they are concerned. Heck, they had trouble with Village Under the Bus, never mind one that basically tells BS to go away. LOL. They’re still lurking in the DK Village diaries and when they find an excuse (or make one up) for dropping in and trying to start something, they do. So far they haven’t gotten Admin to join them in their little games since you and Batch were banned and the rest of the writers (and some of the commenters) got warned. Funny thing is – even with diaspora the DK Village is still the strongest community there by several measures and second only to the Pootie diaries in others. And that’s at about 1/3 strength of what we were.

        Glad you are having such fun with your Smartphone. I’ll stick with a phone that’s not smarter than I am. heh. Tell everybody at sob hi and {{{HUGS}}} – I really miss them. moar {{{HUGS}}} to you.

        • Yeah…. dont care about those folks feelings and glad u guys are still getting hits!

          The title of chris and starbucks site just describes how we feel and it wasn’t meant to try to be inclusive or spare feelings.

          If folks want to lurk…. let em. I really don’t care. Blogging is fun to me, not going to get stressed over it😃

          • Oh, I know we’re doing something right as long as they are still lurking – and occasionally trying to start trouble again.

  5. Good morning to all who dwell at the Pond. 52 and cloudy right now with a predicted high of 72. Thanks for the excellent roundup, Batch. I’ve got my coffee so back up to read some more of the stories.

  6. 25 with a high of 27 today, and metro Detroit is still recovering from the wind damage of the other day. My office has 1/2 of its electricity, and my boss still won’t call the electric company because he is convinced it’s an internal problem that he can fix. It may well be, but in the meantime, I’m working with a maze of extension cords and living room table lamps for light. But I have my computer back, so there’s that.

    We had the second meeting of the reading group for The Third Reconstruction last night, and it was…interesting. The most liberal person present (besides me) unconsciously made a blatantly racist statement; the least liberal person in the group called her out on it. The dynamics of the group are totally unexpected and giving me a lot to think about re my own biases about liberal vs conservative…which is part of the point of the book. I think we’re still tiptoeing around issues of race, but the first three chapters of the book give us room for that. I think as we get further along, we’re going to have some very tough, but interesting, conversations.

    • {{{DoReMI}}} Sorry your boss is a nutjob – be careful with those extension cords etc – electrical fires are not fun. (You might tell your boss that under the current circumstances if there is an electrical fire his insurance won’t cover the damage.)

      Glad your reading group is going so well. Hope by the time you get to those tough conversations you all will be comfortable enough with each other for them to actually take place as conversations – and not accusatory rants followed by members of the group stomping off in anger. moar {{{HUGS}}}

      • Sorry your boss is a nutjob

        Nailed it! He’s also a narcissist (although not quite up to Trumpian proportions), so if/when he does find and fix the problem, I will be expected to ooh and ahh at his amazing skills and hard work. I rarely meet his expectations in that regard; I usually find a way to slip in a passive-aggressive dig that leaves him wondering if I just fed his ego or not. E.g. “Boss, you got it fixed! I’m sure an electrician could have done it in far less time and up to code, but you fixed it despite not being a licensed electrician.”

        • Those folks who don’t believe in things like code and other regulations… well, if they only killed themselves it would be justice. Since they don’t… sigh.

          • And irony of ironies, I work in a highly-regulated industry! I swear the only reason he keeps me around is because I’m a stickler for the rules. When he’s bending them any way he can, I’m bending them right back and reminding him of the fines we face if we get busted. He does love his money, so that usually works.

  7. TGIF Meeses! Thanks Batch for the post, strong in resistance. I’m with bfitzinAR on the health care cartoon, it’s a false narrative that the two are the same. The ACA isn’t perfect, needs strengthening but there is no comparison with #GOPcare.

    Love this article by Marcus…

    • So much this^^^. And it’s not new. Below I’ve cut and pasted the “White Declaration of Independence” from Wilmington, NC (1898), which was posted just before the horrible Wilmington coup d’état and genocide by white supremacists:

      “White Declaration of Independence”

      Believing that the Constitution of the United States contemplated a government to be carried on by an enlightened people; Believing that its framers did not anticipate the enfranchisement of an ignorant population of African origin, and believing that those men of the State of North Carolina, who joined in forming the Union, did not contemplate for their descendants subjection to an inferior race:

      • We, the undersigned citizens of the City of Wilmington and County of New Hanover, do hereby declare that we will no longer be ruled, and will never again be ruled by men of African origin. This condition we have in part endured because we felt that the consequences of the War of Secession were such as to deprive us of the fair consideration of many of our countrymen. We believe that, after more than thirty years, this is no longer the case.

      The stand we now pledge ourselves to is forced upon us suddenly by a crisis and our eyes are open to the fact that we must act now or leave our descendants to a fate too gloomy to be borne.

      While we recognize the authority of the United States, and will yield to it if exerted, we would not for a moment believe that it is the purpose of more than sixty millions of our own race to subject us permanently to a fate to which no Anglo Saxon has ever been forced to submit.

      We therefore, believing that we represent unequivocally the sentiment of the White People of the County and City, hereby for ourselves, and as representing them, proclaim: ƒ

      First That the time has passed for the intelligent citizens of the community owning 90% of the property and paying taxes in like proportion, to be ruled by negroes. ƒ

      Second That we will not tolerate the action of unscrupulous white men in affiliating with the negroes so that by means of their votes they can dominate the intelligent and thrifty element in the community, thus causing business to stagnate and progress to be out of the question. ƒ

      Third That the negro has demonstrated by antagonizing our interest in every way, and especially by his ballot, that he is incapable of realizing that his interests are and should be identical with those of the community. ƒ

      Fourth That the progressive element in any community is the white population and that the giving of nearly all the employment to negro laborers has been against the best interests of this County and City and is a sufficient reason why the City of Wilmington, with its natural advantages has not become a city of at least fifty thousand inhabitants. ƒ

      Fifth That we propose in the future to give to white men a large part of the employment heretofore given to negroes because we realize that white families cannot thrive here unless there are more opportunities for the employment of the different members of said families. ƒ

      Sixth That the white men expect to live in this community peaceably; to have and provide absolute protection for their families, who shall be safe from insult or injury from all persons, whomsoever. We are prepared to treat the negroes with justice and consideration in all matters which do not involve sacrifices of the interest of the intelligent and progressive portion of the community. But are equally prepared now and immediately to enforce what we know to be our rights. ƒ

      Seventh That we have been, in our desire for harmony and peace, blinded both to our best interests and our rights. A climax was reached when the negro paper of this city published an article so vile and slanderous that it would in most communities have resulted in the lynching of the editor. We deprecate lynching and yet there is no punishment, provided by the courts, adequate for this offense. We therefore owe it to the people of this community and of this city, as a protection against such license in the future, that the paper known as the “Record” cease to be published and that its editor be banished from this community.

      We demand that he leave this City forever within twenty-four hours after the issuance of this proclamation. Second, that the printing press from which the “Record” has been issued be packed and shipped from the City without delay, that we be notified within twelve hours of the acceptance or rejection of this demand. If the demand is agreed to, within twelve hours we counsel forbearance on the part of all white men. If the demand is refused or if no answer is given within the time mentioned then the editor, Manly, will be expelled by force. (http://www.history.ncdcr.gov/1898-wrrc/report/Chapter4.pdf)

      With very little difference in the language, this could have been written today. How many of us white folk haven’t heard something similar?

      • I do not know if there is a way to erase such evil from humans. It crops up over and over and over again. But we can isolate it. Push it back under its rock with other slime molds and protect everyone else from them. As Hillary said, you can’t change hearts and minds, you can change policy and allocation of resources. You can change behavior. After a while you might pick up a few hearts and minds – but that can’t be your goal and it will never be the path to Freedom and Justice for ALL.

        • I remember when she said that to some Black Lives Matter kids and got a big push back as being condescending and dismissive…just like she told the Somali woman in Mn that if she didn’t like her Representatives then she should run for office herself…more push back for that one but jeez she was right…

          • Yes, she was always right. She was always giving actual working methods for getting what is wanted done. Not revolution, not pie in the sky, not unicorns or even ponies – and definitely not magic. Just what works. But it works because it’s work. And too many people prefer to scream and attack the one who tells them they have to do work to get what they want because nobody’s going to give it to them for screaming.
