Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: July 2nd through July 8th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (every Sunday morning). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

    66 at dawn of what’s looking to be another clear sunny day – yesterday was at least clear enough we got just over 20 KWHs (seriously clear would have generated over 22) and the m-t-d is 95 at the moment. Still managing to keep the A/C off – not sure how much longer I can do that – by opening up the house after dark and in the morning using fans to suck in the cool air from the time I get up to the time I leave for work then closing up the house just before I walk out the door. It’s been an “old normal” year this summer so I’m actually getting away with that.

    We will survive the insanity and evil that is the R administration – including Congress – hopefully in as good a shape as we survived the insanity of WWII. If not, then not and we’ll have more wounds to heal and dead to mourn. But we will survive. (Partly by not letting our guard down – I don’t trust McConnell and think he’s trying to pull a “Lyin’ Ryan” where he tells everybody AHCA is dead, we stop calling, and then they ram it through because nobody’s calling – so let’s not let him.) In the microcosm, my community needs people will survive – hopefully getting their needs met so they can get back on their feet and go back to being the giving people they were before disaster came into their lives, but they will survive somehow. And i will do my best to make it the more hopeful scenario. And so we go. Any day you wake up is a day you can do something to make things better. Even if it’s only sending a cyber hug to somebody’s who’s heading off for his first chemo appt and is terrified.

    Gonna visit the Villages then get to work. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

      I don’t trust Ryan either – or any of them
      We just have to keep on reisiting – the more we do the more people will see that Trumpcare is a travesty

        {{{Denise}}} – trust and Rs only belong in the same sentence if trust is prefaced by don’t. And yes, the more we keep making noise about it, the more even the Rs “back home” will see that Trumpcare is taking their insurance – and that’s how we block this one.

    Good morning, 63 and sunny in Bellingham. Another slow morning for me. I’ve got to focus on my desk this morning so no pool because that will mean another long nap and the bills can’t wait another day.

    So coffee in hand that’s where I’m going to be for the next few hours. Take care everyone.

    It’s Saturday Meese
    We had massive rainstorms last night – hope they don’t continue today

    Good morning, meese! Saturday …

    It is 61 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 75. Sunny skies are in the forecast.

    Don’t miss RonK’s amazing post: The Birth of a Harbor Seal Pup! Life, literally, goes on – even when it seems like the world is a mess.

    The Weekly Democratic Party Address is a group of Senators talking about the ACA repeal. Since Congress was not in session, there was no Nancy Pelosi news conference on Thursday but she did write a Dear Colleague letter to her caucus to keep fighting to save people’s health care and I will share that. I will put something up after I get my morning projects done.

    I hope the pushback from Congress is strong against the notion that we just “move past” the Russians meddling in our elections. House Republicans need to pass the bill that the Senate sent them not allowing the administration to end sanctions on Russia – and it needs to be passed with veto proof margins. The only hope we Democrats have for regaining power is fair and honest elections. A failure to punish Russia invites more meddling plus, what the hell, Republicans, have you no shame? You are letting your president get owned by a Russian dictator.

    Photobucket changed their rules about how I can use my photo account and all of my critter posts now have an ugly “Upgrade Your Account” photo where cute animals should be! I don’t use Photobucket anymore since I only post on WordPress sites now so I am in the process of moving the post-linked photos to the WordPress media libraries so I can close my Photobucket account. Extra work that I did not want to have to do!

    See all y’all later!

      The RonK diary is lovely, as usual – and yes, Life goes on. We keep moving with it and we’ll get out of this mess, too. And Photo Bucket’s new rules are playing havoc with the photo diaries at DK, too. The Pootie Peeps are not happy – and yes, in the process of moving all their stuff so they can close their accounts. I think this little ploy to ransom pictures is going to backfire on Photo Bucket!

        I just archived all my photos and closed two accounts – one I had for DK only and one I had when I started splitting time to other blogs (one was named “DKos” so I didn’t want that for my other blogging). Now I have to upload and relink the photos to my posts on my blog (I will probably skip doing the ones here).

        Lots of memories in those photos, wow!

    Good morning, Moosekind, and a beautiful morning it is, too. Sunshine and blue skies here in NoVa, with a few wisps of white cirrostratus clouds hanging about. Current temp. is 66 F., going up to 87 F. and the humidity will drop. We might be able to turn off the a.c. tomorrow!

    Progress has been made on beautifying the front yard; Dearly Beloved agreed to get someone to paint the trim on the outside of the house to match the new shutters; and with a free afternoon, I may be able clear out some closets in the house. We really need to start on clearing the garage, which is our summer project. The goal is to be able to park the car in it during the winter.

    Today is the last day of the G20, I understand. Seems to be there’s a contingent of anarchists who travel from country to country to riot. The best demonstrators were the zombies marching as if in a trance.

    Here’s hoping the Rethugs will meet with all kinds of opposition as they go about their day.

    Slept in (I’d love to know why I can sleep in the morning but not at night), watching local news & Le Tour. Today: bake oatmeal, go to the gym. Horrified by Trump’s meeting with Putin yesterday — and now we’re going to work with them on cyber security?? I guess we should be grateful he didn’t actually annex us to Russia. Ok. on that cheerful note, back to my cute boys in spandex.

      That was so disgusting. How embarrassing for America.

    Had to turn on the A/C when I got home from work yesterday – 85 in the house and humid – but rain moved through around 2 am so I’ve turned it off again and am airing the house with the below-75 air we have at the moment. I’ll close up shortly and hope the coolth will last until dark and I don’t have to turn the A/C back on. Running the A/C means I use about 18 KWHs/day, not running it and I draw more like 5. But it’s a bright clear day so far – I got 21 KWHs yesterday and the m-t-d is 117 at the moment – and I actually can afford the A/C in my energy budget as long as that keeps up.

    I have the white privilege of not being in the kind of danger the French were under Vichy – people of color and non-Xtians are in that kind of danger with the R administration (including R-controlled Congress). That I am relatively safe does not comfort me as long as there are any in my community who are not. I will Resist by doing whatever is at hand to do until we get through this. Good news on one of my needs list folks – her mortgage is covered for July. Two others on my urgent list haven’t seen any movement (and the one who needs $250 for a round-trip taxi to her doctor next Wednesday to get the monthly renewals for her pain meds is getting worried). Have to add Kitsap River to the urgent list as soon as I get a pay address – county taxes in arrears and she’s got to pay off the oldest of them ($5,500 including fines) in 2 weeks or they’re going to auction her house. Aji’s working on it “behind the scenes” so I’m waiting on the Word from her before I do anything except let folks know it’s coming.

    Speaking of the community needs list, I need to get over to DK and edit/update my Sharing Saturday diary. I’ll be back later for the “fighting back” post. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

    Good morning, 62 and sunny in Bellingham. As always, a sunny day means I want to be outdoors but my indoor to do list is long and needs attention too. I did get my desk mess relatively contained yesterday so if I can make some progress sewing the items for my daughter’s Etsy shop today I’ll feel less behind. The sewing is simple, scarves, fleece blankets and pillows and linen napkins, but the numbers of items means I need to be productive.

    I continue to be distracted with tRump angst so keeping my focus is a challenge.
