It Takes A Village: VNV Wednesday – Playing the Dozens

Wednesday Get Over the Hump Free for All

Greetings, Village Meese. It’s Day 174 of the Resistance and time for another Get Over the Hump post and discussion thread.

EMAILS. It has been pointed out that there seems to be a certain irony regarding the subject of emails in relationship to this presidential campaign, and now this administration’s activities as regards conspiring with a foreign government to subvert the election of the US President.

As we watch the developments and startling reveals unfold, as we risk getting caught up in the very understandable outrage and the train-wreck fascination of the stories coming out, the individuals and institutions concerned and their reactions, we must continue to remind ourselves that as damaging as this appears to the GOP and Trump camp, they will still be using it as a smoke screen as they forge forward with all their might to dismantle as much as possible of the government systems that we rely on to protect us, our environment, our net neutrality, our health care, our voting rights, our justice, our lives and the futures of our loved ones.

The number one issue of the day is still the GOP’s determination to pass DeathCare, a.k.a. tax cuts for the rich on the backs of the lives of the most vulnerable Americans including seniors, children, vets and the poor.

As we parse the building storm over Russia’s interference in our election and the degree of collusion on the part of one of the campaigns – the one now in power – send one more text, make one more call, send one more fax or letter.

Keep the pressure on.

I will be taking Master Wufei to the vet this morning but I will check in when I can.

Feel free to partake of your favorite morning (or afternoon) beverage, greet your friends and discuss the events of the day, any Resistance news you have to share and anything else you would like.

  1. Taking Master Wufei in to get a anti-biotic shot. Seems the little (relatively) blighter has pancreatitis in addition to his thyroid being higher than usual. Stay tuned for updates later in the week…

    Hugs and love, my Village friends!

  2. Good morning, Pond Dwellers and thanks for the doubly delightful post, MG. I am always thankful when a shot can be administered instead of the “pill in pill popper and pray it gets eaten” routine.

    As I stated at 🍊, who would’ve imagined how far we’ve resisted and how low this administration has fallen. Hillary warned us, but it seemed like a bizarre soap opera. I’m wondering how much she got from intelligence briefings, her own network and Obama? She was spot on and too damn many folks played Russian roulette with our democracy. I hope there comes a day when they feel like shit and I can say, “It’s on you.”

    A lovely 62 right now and a trip to the dentist for me later.

    • Good morning, my motley crew. Good luck at the vet, MG; I’m with WYgal that a shot is far preferable to trying to jam a pill down the Master’s throat. (Easy to say when I’m not the one receiving the shot!)

      I spent most of yesterday morning at the vet’s myself; just wellness checks for the pups, but wrangling two stressed and anxious Basset hounds is not the best way to begin the day. Turbo is pretty chill once he realizes the vet is going to tell him what a good boy he is, but my girl, Uli, is big on protecting me and Turbo from the Big Bad Vet Guy…which usually just means nervous piddling while climbing onto my lap. At least this time she didn’t growl at all, but I still do all the mouth-handling as a “just in case” measure. The strange thing is she adores the vet techs, so I really don’t know what she has against my vet…she’s been well-socialized with men (as well as women), so it can’t just be that he’s a he.

      I remain unconvinced that all the news about “alleged” collusion is going to make any difference; Rs are going to try to retain power, no matter what the cost. I do think, however, it’s time to start asking Pence, Ryan and McConnell about what they knew, and when did they know it. Pence is a talented and experienced liar, but McConnell and Ryan seem to be dodge-ers. Hitting them hard about this needs to be happening now.

      Having said that, I fully agree that the #1 job of the Resistance is to keep focusing on the legislative agenda and making those calls again and again. McConnell especially will do whatever he can to use the distractions to his advantage, but I think we’re more than capable of watching the latest news about the crime family’s escapades while making the calls and visiting offices.

  3. Thanks to WYgalinCali and DoReMI for the good wishes. FYI Master Wufei already gets a pill every day, it’s part of his treatment for his thyroid disorder which has been going on for… a while? Four or five years I think. It’s a tiny little pink pill and we don’t have to jam it down his throat, we use those tasty pill pockets and 90% of the time he gobbles it up, yum yum.

    Per what the vet, Dr. Mark, told me yesterday, Master Wufei will now be getting 2 pills a day, until his thyroid hormones go back down, they are way high right now. Might have something to do with the fact that about a month ago he just flat refused to eat his special diet food, and has refused every time I have tried to get him to eat it, which I do about once a week.

    Dr. Mark says it is the pancreatitis that is making him feel uncomfortable and when that gets squashed by the anti-biotic shot, maybe he’ll be less picky about his food. In which case if we can get him back on the prescription diet, we might be able to go back down to 1 pill a day.

    With the anti-biotic shot, I just wanted him to get the fastest route to feeling better, even if it required a morning’s trauma.

    He was on to us today. I tried to lure him with treats so I could get him into the carrier. He actually refused treats, and went into the bathroom under-sink cabinet, one of his fav sleeping places, where he knew we couldn’t pick up up. I had to switch up treats to lure him out enough to pick him up. Even after loosing weight recently, he was till 13 lbs when we took him in last week, and that is 13 lbs of floppy, uncooperative feline.

    We are back home now and after having a bit of a panic attack, he has now settled enough to eat something, and is napping where he can keep an eye on me. After all that, he seems to want to be in the same room rather than otherwise.

    Here’s hoping Monday night will have been the last retching incident for a while. Crossing all fingers and toes (it’s hard to type like that!). :)

    • Thank you for the update; I worry a bit too much out everyone’s furbabies. Heck, I even shed tears when Aji announced that she had lost, Ginger, her chicken. I don’t even particularly like chickens!

      If my Izzie ever needs pills, I will look into a pill-popper; it must be one of those new-fangled devices that has eluded my notice. I never have problems with the pups; they’re like Mikey…they’ll eat anything. The vet did give us (as in, we paid for it after he recommended it) chew treats for the dogs that also work towards cleaning teeth. He was quite excited: “I’ve been waiting 30 years for a product like this; it really works!!!” I wish he had warned me about how messy they are though. They chewed/ate them for easily 30 minutes and left me with a slimy, nasty mess all over the floor. From now on, they’re going out to the patio for their treat.

      • Oh dear on the nasty mess! But the teeth self-cleaning thing is good, yes? :)

        (((((((DoReMI}}}}}}} Hugs to you for caring about the animals!!!

        I have never used a pill-popper, which if it’s what I think, its kind of a large syringe-like device that you put the pill in the small end, stick it in their mouth and down as far as you can and push the plunger, which presumably deposits the pill in their throat where they must swallow. Others who have used them can correct me/enlighten us.

        We use these pill treats – it’s a tasty treat that is soft, has a little pocket in it, and you put the pill in and mash it around the pill. Master Wufei thinks they are delish and the only issue comes when he chomps one up and somehow the pill, which is quite small, falls out of his mouth in the process. Then he just gets a second treat. ;)

        • Ah yes, reading for comprehension would be a good thing, wouldn’t it?! Popper does not equal pocket…

          I’m afraid I could never buy pill pockets; it would eliminate my excuse for buying braunschweiger. I love the stuff, but since it’s not the healthiest food in the world, I only buy it when I have a critter that is resisting pills. I make my own pockets with it for the recalcitrant animal, and I have the rest for my lunches. If I bought the Greenies, I’d never have braunschweiger again (at least until I found another reason).

          Yeah, self-cleaning teeth is good, although we’re still to continue brushing their teeth. But we’re not nearly as disciplined as we should be with their tooth brushing; we do much better with regular ear cleaning, but brushing their teeth is sporadic at best. Which, as I think about it, is really dumb on our part, since they don’t mind having their teeth brushed as much as they do the ear cleaning.

          • Braunschweiger, eh? :D I have not even thought of that stuff since… uh, my mom passed… She ate odd things. :)

            When we ran out of pockets we used cheese – those American cheese slices that are wrapped and processed. He loved that. I was worried it was adding to the soft stools he’s been having though. Now I think it had nothing to do with it but we went back to the pockets since they are vet approved.

            I’m going to file your secret away for some future time when pill pockets fall out of favor. :)

        • Yep. That’s the ones. I should’ve said pocket. I had one kitty that would eat them fine. The other one? Eat around the pill and leave it laying on the floor.

    • It’s amazing how heavy 13 pounds of resistance is, right? Hope everything gets back to normal soon.

      • What Cats Can Teach Us About Resistance! :D

        Thanks for the wishes. I believe in their power.

        {{{{{WYgalinCali}}}}}}}

  4. {{{MomentaryGrace}}} – thanks for the double duty – although at the moment I can’t remember what I’ve done in the DK diary. I’ve been interrupted on a fairly regular basis since I walked in the door. {{{HUGS}}} and Healing Energy for humans and fur babies all around.

    The Rs crave power. They don’t care how they get it. They don’t care how they hold onto it. They don’t care if they kill us all as long as their hands are on the wheel when we hit the wall. They don’t know how to govern. They don’t care. Power is all they want. And they measure how successful they are by how much they upset us. In fact, that’s their definition of power right now – being able to upset us. Which is why they are so dangerous. But as long as we stay on guard and keep the pressure up, we can block the worst of the damage. And they will eventually be gotten out of power – the sooner, the less damage to repair.

    Hillary probably had a whole lot of the stuff we warned us about from intel that she could understand and the guy she was warning us about couldn’t, even if she wasn’t getting anything directly from President Obama. She may have no longer been part of the inner circle, but she had been part of the inner circle and she was never totally out of the loop during the Obama years.

    Meanwhile – 3 chunks of not-good news with the community needs list. Mufftootuff – thought we’d just about gotten her off the urgent list – got her phone/internet bill in yesterday’s mail. It’s for $300 and it’s due before any possibility of any of the helping service monies can get in. Fineena hasn’t gotten a dime towards dog-proofing the backyard and Sam (her oldest Airedale) died last Friday. pale cold’s house sale is looking iffy – the prospective buyer was turned down for financing (is now looking for a possible cosigner) – and she needs to sell the house before the bank takes it so she can put a down payment on a mobile home for her and the kids. Hard on them but hard on me, too. I can’t help except to send hugs and update today’s Helping Humpday diary – and hope some folks who can actual do help. (There are a lot of us who would if we could, not a lot of us who can.) So. I will leave my depression here and get back to DK to work on trying to make things better. Thank you for listening.

    moar {{{HUGS}}} and moar Healing Energy.

    • But a good news update – Mufftootuff managed to get an extension until the end of the month. We shall see what we and she can put together to deal with things by then. Hold the Good Thought for a job (which pays better than the Social Security she’s not scheduled to get until 3rd week of August) at best and various combinations of aid services and Unemployment at least. and whew.

    • Dear bfitz, you are the warrior-queen for Goodness.

      Sending you energy for your work, but also a special portion just for you alone.

      • {{{MomentaryGrace}}} – thank you and I’m trying. But the part I need the most help with – is getting myself out of the way and channeling the Good. I personally cannot take care of everybody but when an emergency hits, that’s my first thought. How much can I find where to send them. I have to calm myself down and get my anxiety about the situation (and my inability to fix it personally) out of the path needed for the Good I desire to reach the one I desire to help.

        Which is a concept everyone at Moose Pond and Village understands but I’m not going to say on DK because a whole lot of them – even in the Village – not only wouldn’t understand they’d either attack me for it or use it as an excuse to not help. I am so glad we have a sort of “circle” here at Moose and I can say things like this. moar {{{HUGS}}}

        • MOAR {{{{{{{{{{{{{{bfitzinAR}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

          Anyone who would attack you or even think one shady thought shall be consigned to Purgatory so they can meditate on their error. ;)

          • I concur. Only I’m a bit testier than you and would send them a bit lower (if you know what I mean). I wonder if the average age at the Moose is older than the Village and that is why “We’ve got your back, bfitz”?

          • Thank you, both. At the Moose? Definitely older. Definitely more female (in “voice” although I’m not sure about actual number). And definitely more inclined to consider valid issues of a more esoteric and/or spiritual nature. moar {{{HUGS}}}

  5. Thanks your, doll. With all the drama real life brings to the less than comfortable in the wealth department (vast amounts off us on the list) you remind us to bigly keep our eyes on the prize. THE GOP AGENDA. It doesn’t include anyone who doesn’t look like them, which is sad.

    Love the cats! 💖 U too!
