Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: Sept. 10th through Sept. 16th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (every Sunday morning). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

  1. Good morning, Meese. It seems ironic that it’s such a beautiful morning here in NoVa when there’s so much terrible news everywhere—terrorist attack in London, Kim Wrong ‘Un launching another missile (when is his own cholesterol level going to get him?), and the aftermath of the terrible hurricanes. Jose is going to be creeping up the East Coast next week.

Meanwhile, the current temp. is 63 F., going up to 79 F. It appears we’re in for two weeks of warm weather, but at least it’ll be in the low 80s, not the 90s or 100s. That’s something.

All is well at Barky Manor (my house) because I finished writing my novella. It’s 15 rollicking chapters plus an epilogue. While it’s in beta reading I’ll be working on a marketing plan and thinking about my next book.

Hoping to be able to relax this weekend as next week will bring two all-day sessions of child care, plus three afternoons of it. Wishing all a good day!

  2. 62 just before dawn, heading up for the mid 80s and hazy. Got over 16 KWHs yesterday and m-t-d is 229 so still tracking well for September generation. Over the next 10 days the highs aren’t predicted to get much higher but the lows are going to get closer to 70 and we’ve got a few days with 50% chances of rain. If we actually get the rain, I won’t mind the lower electricity production because we really need it – ground rock hard and grass crackles when i walk on it. But at the moment it’s just hazy.

We need another “battle stations, battle stations, this is not a drill” effort on blocking ACA repeal. i sincerely hope there is a strategy behind the M4All tag-ons with our team. I don’t see it but I’m not a particularly good strategist. All I can do is make phone calls to a couple of guys who’d only go “tut, tut” if I or someone like me dropped dead at their feet. Meanwhile made some progress on the community needs folks, thank goddess and folks She channeled Her Good through. We’ve got a fundraiser for Aji tonight at DK (I think yasu is doing it – posting 7 pm eastern/6 central) hoping to help get things far enough they can move in – even if she doesn’t have a full kitchen for a while. But I’ve still got people on the list who need September or October funds, and quickly. sigh Focusing on opening and clearing the Channel of Good so it can flow where it’s needed.

    Gotta get to work. Bright the day, meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  3. Slept in, today is errands for travel. Measuring my bag to be sure it fits Southwests’s carry on requirements, 2 books — because you always need a backup book. making sure I have everything packed. Watching the Cassini press conference, crying a little because she was a good little spacecraft & the scientists are all emotional, too.

  4. Good morning, 47 and mostly sunny in Bellingham. It’s time to close more windows and put away the screens but I’ll miss the fresh air, so I’ll wait a few more days.

    I agree…..

    Ky Johnson @KyinHI
Watching @HillaryClinton on #Maddow giving concise, thought out, reasonable answers to important questions is breaking my heart.

  5. The doc’s office called, and on the x-ray, they saw arthritis — I still think there was also a pulled muscle because of the sudden onset. So that’s interesting. He wrote an order for physical therapy, I’ll call the insurance company next week & ask about cost. But I guess it’s daily Tylenol for me.

Bag is packed — no problem with Southwest’s carry on policy. But the facility….

Please be aware, the venue enforces a STRICT BAG POLICY. Bags that are larger than 11”x17x6” will NOT be permitted into the stadium. All bags will be subject to a security search.

I’ve taped a bag up to be that size, but I’m afraid that they won’t like that. I have a bag that’s 17x13x4, but I doubt they’ll give me depth for width. And the one I taped up…. it’s this year’s AIDS Walk bag & it’s really nice. I should just leave it here. shouldn’t I?

    • Definitely bravo to the young man. As to the teacher – 40 years of Koch-brothers’ takeover of school boards gives us teachers who haven’t a clue about first amendment rights. (Unfortunately we’ve always had teachers who beat up on kids for whatever reason in the name of “discipline” – were and still are supported by the administration. While teachers like me who refused to use any of the negative and/or violent methods of keeping order in the classroom most certainly were not supported by the administration. Which is why I stopped teaching.)

Hold the Good Thought for the kid – and for some positive changes in his school at least since the light has been turned on there.

  6. Hi , meese! Quick check-in from an undisclosed location where it will be hot.

All hands on deck for the latest assault on the ACA! The Republicans are using a new tactic, downplaying its support while quietly getting to 50. “Well, we’re a couple of votes short” Bullshit. They were all but 3 willing to vote to let the House bill pass! Get some hard NOes or it is all a ruse. The Wisconsin Republican Senator is a sponsor so I literally have no one to call. Damn the people who stayed home on 2014 and gave the Senate to the Republicans.

    See all y’all later.

    • Enjoy your undisclosed location. I called Cotton and Boozman yesterday. Doubt it will do any good, but Cotton is still on the list of folks to put pressure on so maybe it will. I wasn’t logical at all about it. Told the staffers I’m already mourning friends who died because NC refused to expand Medicaid, I don’t want to be mourning friends in AR who die because you take it away. We shall see what we shall see.

  7. Good morning, Meese! It’s a gorgeous Saturday here in NoVa: 60 F. now, going up to 80 F. later. Hubby is bravely going to venture out to dinner tonight at the house of a friend, who has promised to make it earlier rather than later.

We’re in for warm weather for the next two weeks, but I hope it cools down after that so it will seem more like autumn. Jan, you sound as if you’re in the east corner of Hell—a “hot, undisclosed location”?

Getting very tired of male journos criticizing HRC for breathing. May they rot in the east corner.

It’ll be another busy day at Barky Manor, so I’d better get on with it. Cheers, dears!

  8. 63 just before dawn which is when I finally got up this morning. Heading for mid 80s and more humid than it’s been so not as comfortable. Hopefully last gasp of Summer before the Equinox. Got 14.8 KWHs yesterday and the m-t-d is 244 so still mostly on track for a good September electricity production.

Called my Senators about Graham-Cassidy and put it as Top Priority in the DK Village action comment. Pretty much all I can do, but I’ll carry the comment forward as long as needed. Made the $1K match for Aji last night and somebody upped it with another $500 match – don’t know if we’ve made that one yet, but if we do that’s the down payment for the wood stove installation. We’re almost there for them moving in. They’ll have to do without a real kitchen for a while – probably this entire winter – but they will be safe and warm and not breathing toxic fumes! I’ve still got the rest of the community needs list to worry about – some of them are urgent as well – and will be posting my usual Sharing Saturday at 1 central, but it will be sooooo good to get Aji’s home finished enough for her to be in it and finally get some sleep!

Need to get over to DK and check around for a bit – then need to finish making stock so I can make soup tomorrow – then back to DK for the pootie diary. Hopefully DK managed to fix the site-wide glitch with their Image Library or we’re gonna have to use a back up – the Saturday diarist wasn’t able to pull up anything but gray squares yesterday (neither could I but I wasn’t trying to put together a pootie diary). And then post my Sharing Saturday. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}} – and Healing Energy to everybody, shaped to their needs.

  9. Good morning, 57 and partly sunny in Bellingham. Amazing how much better mornings are after a good night’s sleep. It’s nice to feel the difference. If the grand girls are free I hope to see them for lunch today, and if not, I’ll do some end of summer garden clean up.

    Best Saturday wishes to all!
