It Takes A Village: VNV Wednesday – Abby Someone

The Village News & Views September 27, 2017
Wednesday Get Over the Hump Free for All

Greetings, Village Meese. It’s Day 251 of the Resistance and time for another Get Over the Hump post and discussion thread.

Our fellow citizens and fellow humans in Puerto Rico are desperate and suffering, and our Resident is tweeting about football players taking a knee in protest of police violence. Our country is in the throes of a terrible struggle with its soul and identity, and the struggle is real, and it continues.

We continue the Good Fight, and #Resist with all the energy we can gather as we assist each other to persist.

Somewhere, Robert Mueller continues his work.

And now for your regularly scheduled randomness.

  1. Good morning, MG, and thanks for all the news, critters and palate cleansers. Besides coffee, this could be the best part of waking up. Hello, Meese! Another beautiful day in the neighborhood (get my plug?). It’s going to be 91 in the capital city today. I’m headed back to the doc to see if the drops cleaned out the rest of my ear because I have an appointment with my audiologist on Monday. So, things are progressing on that.

We all know why the Orange Shitgibbon won’t lift the Jones Act for PR, don’t we? They’re just too black and brown. They don’t vote republican. I’m glad our true president got the Comfort headed to PR. My coffee is getting cold. I must consume.

His Orangeness has such a limited repertoire: racism, misogyny, bigotry, incompetence. That’s about it. Oh and boorishness. :(

      • True and I think it’s starting to wear on those “saner” republicans since it isn’t showing up in any legislation accomplished. I hope they’re so discouraged that they stay home (starting in Alabama in December) and continuing through to midterms.

We also flipped a seat in NH last night bringing our total of flipped seats this year to 8.

  2. If you’re coming from the Village and wondered what hpg was talking about, that was meant as a slap to me. I sent a kosmail suggesting he be more careful when copying things over…he got upset with me and said he copies nothing (and then just admitted copying…). I asked if he’d consider using less tweets in his opening remarks since they out number the tweets in a diary.

I guess we have the answer to my question, right?

    • Ah well, I doubt it would help if I explained that wasn’t “deep Trouble” he was in, only moderately shallow doo-doo… ;)

I thought the poem was cute the first time. Now I’m bored. On the other hand, I re-use my cat memes a lot. However they are cat memes. =^^=

      • I agree. Also, he copies tweets from morning to evening at times. He’s been called on it. The every day is cat day has lost its glow as well.

  3. Guys, guys, guys…I just had the nicest thing happen to me, and while it involves tooting my horn a bit, I have to share. Settle in for a story from Sis Do…

So one of my best friends has twin daughters, who were also my daughter’s best friends for most of her childhood. Until she opted to go to a different high school, they were inseparable; so much so, that they referred to themselves as The Triplets. One of the twins got married 1 1/2 years ago, and because she is all about setting a formal table, for her shower gift, I gave her a vintage tablecloth and matching napkins from my collection (as well as some other stuff from her registry). My collection was always a source of fascination and interest for her, so this was a gift that actually meant something to her.

Twin Two is getting married two weeks before my daughter, and I wanted to do something special for her shower gift too. But she was a bit harder to plan for; she’s far more easygoing and far less traditional than her sister. She’s also quieter, and as a result, her accomplishments have often been less heralded than those of her sister (not by her family so much, but by teachers and classmates a lot). I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out what to do when I remembered that her mom had given me three yards of Chinese silk about 15-20 years ago. The silk had been brought back from China by my friend’s mom (the twins’ grandmother); she had been one of the first Americans to travel to China as a tourist after relations started normalizing, and after she died, my friend gave it to me. I’ve held it all these years, not quite knowing what to do with it (it was only 36″ wide, which is narrower than most of today’s patterns require). I ended up searching for a vintage pattern, when a 36″ width was more common, and found one for a kimono-style robe. I still had to get some brocade to use for the belt and the front edges, but I was able to get it made.

Of course, “getting it made” didn’t quite happen in time for the shower, so my friend delivered it to her daughter yesterday. This morning I got a phone call; it was Twin Two, and she was full on crying over the phone. She was a little incoherent at first which led to a bit of panic on my part. But once I was able to determine that her folks were ok, and her wedding was still on, she just kept thanking me over and over for the robe. It was a little embarrassing, to be frank; it was far from difficult sewing (although sewing with silk is a major PITA). But then she said the words which have left me glowing. She said that her grandma always made special “just the two of them” time for her, because her grandmother recognized how often Twin Two was overshadowed and overlooked because of the extroverted nature of Twin One. She said, “This robe is like the hugs that my grandma used to give me during Our Time.”

And my day was just made.

    • That is so sweet and it was like your hands were guided by her grandma. I am not a twin, but there’s only 17 months between my sister and I. My grandmother always took care to have special time with me as dad was always doting on sis. I totally get this. *a little dusty in here right now.

    • {{{DoReMI}}} – I think you made a lot of people’s day. That was a capital G Gift and a very great blessing. For both of you.
