It Takes A Village: VNV Wednesday – Grave Matters

The Village News & Views October 11, 2017
Wednesday Get Over the Hump Free for All

Greetings, Village Meese. It’s Day 264 of the Resistance and time for another Get Over the Hump post and discussion thread.

On Sunday Republican Senator Bob Corker went on the record questioning the current WH occupant’s competency. While most of us have been doing so all along, not to mention Secretary Hillary Clinton flat out warning what was coming during the campaign if her opponent were elected, the Republicans, especially those still serving in elected office have been careful to keep criticism of the bundle of ego in chief off the record and behind closed doors/muffling hands/fake coughs etc.

Sen. Corker however stopped short of accepting any responsibility whatsoever for the scary creature now threatening possible nuclear bombardment on North Korea.

He is their Monster. They are all enabling him as they greedily try to scrape whatever they can get out of the erratic yet systematic wrecking of the United States Federal Government. They opposed him during their own primary, or some of them did, yet he is their Monster – assembled from the worst severed parts of their “Conservative” policies, their race-baiting and voter-suppressing campaign tactics, and their secret authoritarian, white supremacist and totalitarian dreams.

Enjoy your moment in the spotlight, Senator. Meanwhile, the #Resistance will keep fighting for hope, for those who are being harmed, and for a better future.

And, no, we won’t forget how we got here. Never.

And now for your regularly scheduled randomness.

Life at last! Salutations from the other side
I can see that you’re the devil’s pride
Do you realize that all of you donated something horrible you hated that is part of you
I’m your nightmares comin’ true I am your crime

And locked up here inside our spirit
Is the child that we are, hear it
Some of us will always fear it
And some will heed the cry

  1. Good morning, Meese, and thanks, MG, for another double duty of delightfulness. Your humpday diaries always provide me with something I haven’t read and cuteness pictures that are, well, just too cute.

    The Big Horn Mountains arise from the valley floor of my hometown and ascend 9666 feet. About half way to the pass, there is a mountain spring that comes out of the side of a hill. I remember many times stopping to get a drink. Cold, clear and, unbeknownst to us, probably filled will all sorts of terrible things. Still, we persisted (and lived to tell about it).

    High of 76 today. Fall temperatures and falling leaves are our only indicators that autumn is here. We have humidity at 60%, so hopefully the fire areas have even more humid air to help get these fires under control. Off to get a cup and finish reading your included articles.

    • Thanks WYgalinCali. Thank goodness for your hearty immune system. ;)

  2. {{{MomentaryGrace}}} – thanks so much for the double duty. And a lovely job as usual. Hope I manage a “thank you” in the DK Village diary (I didn’t manage one for DOReMI yesterday, darn it) but I am being interrupted on a frequent but irregular basis at work and haven’t managed to get all the community lynx comments in at this point. sigh. I’m tired – we all are – of fighting the Evil. I’m sure the French were even more so after 10 months of Vichy. They could do it, we can do it.

    Need to get back to work. Several eff’d up travel and a couple of eff’d up payroll things need to be fixed ASAP. I’ll be back – here and there – as soon as I can. {{{HUGS}}}

  3. Thanks MG for our Wednesday “regularly scheduled randomness.” Other than PR and USVI, I have to admit I’m pretty tuned out lately. That’s pretty much the definition of privilege, but my calls about DACA and CHIP seem a bit futile since I’m seeing no movement (at least forward movement) on either.

    As far as 45*s ongoing twitter rants, he’s almost become a parody of himself at this point. I worry more about the implementation of Pence’s agenda; Pence seems to have figured out how to get what he wants from the Bloviator-in-Chief. If the rumored EO is issued, doing more damage to the ACA, I think we have Pence to thank as much as anybody; T***p certainly isn’t smart enough to come up with the sabotage by himself.

    Eleven days until my daughter’s wedding…

    • I agree that tRump is becoming more of a comedic jerk than a person to take seriously. Like bfitz says “can’t sign legislation or start a war via twitter”. I take solace in Senator Corker’s assertion that the majority of the caucus thinks he’s got some screws loose. McConnell making nominations a priority here tells me he’s feeling the pressure of things falling apart…maybe losing the senate majority…maybe Mueller issuing indictments…even possible republican resignations.

      11 days will fly by…I imagine it will be a wonderful wedding.

    • You’re allowed to tune out when you need to. Otherwise we’d all burn out in a week.

      Sending good thoughts for the wedding to go wonderfully!

      • It’s more unintentional than not; I just have a lot to do over the next week or so! If I had to give a quick rundown on what’s going on per Twitter, it would be like this:

        Harvey Weinstein is a creep. Hillary must denounce him (she did, but not quickly enough and using a spokesperson), so blaming The Woman continues. Meryl Streep spoke but maybe not in the “right” way. Nomiki Konst is on Fox, because nothing says Unity like going on Fox and bashing Dems. 45* is apparently against the 1st Amendment, and his twitter meltdowns seem to be happening at an increasing rate. Eminem spoke truth, but T***p has yet to call him out like he did Jemele Hill. Steve Bannon said something. Unraveling is the word of the day re: the Occupant. Lin-Manuel Miranda is still relentlessly advocating for PR. Joy Reid is in USVI. Football is still more important than either, according to POTUS and VPOTUS.

        Does that about cover it all?

    • {{{DoReMI}}} – we have to deal with what’s at hand. You are dealing with what’s at hand and that’s all you can do. Enjoy the wedding. moar {{{HUGS}}}

  4. Thanks for the delightful post, Momentary, and DoReMI, the approaching wedding sounds like a world-class event!

    Off now to breakfast. Have a good Thursday, everyone!

    • Ha! The wedding and reception are intended to be about as untraditional and low-key as one can imagine. It’s my ability to sweat the smallest details that’s world class. (And I’m on the periphery…my daughter and her fiancé have done most of the work!)
