Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: Oct. 29th through Nov. 4th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (every Sunday morning). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

  1. Good morning, 34 and snowing in Bellingham. Looks like about 6″ of snow on the back steps. I’m not ready for White Walker weather! We’ll have to knock snow off branches because they are really bending low.

tRump angst kept me awake again last night, time for coffee and an attitude adjustment.

    Take care everyone.

  2. Good Saturn’s Day morning, Moosekind. From my office window, rather than Saturn I can see a misty full moon shining in a dark sky at a quarter past six.

Yesterday was a real trial: two hours in the dentist’s chair without a break. And after all that, it was only a partial root canal! I have to go back next Friday. Luckily the “endodontist” was young, cute, and possessed of utterly delightful dimples. That consoled me a great deal during the trial.

Meanwhile (wanly gulping Advil) there are still plans afoot for today. I’d like to drive out into the country to look for Mountaineer, Nittany, and Braeburn apples, all of which are tastier than the boring offerings at the local grocery stores. Might get some local honey as well.

Feeling numb by the barrage of outrages perpetrated by The Occupant. Dearly Beloved is very worried about the election, but I refuse to worry. We will vote and hope for the best. Had a job interview yesterday for a child-tending gig slated to begin in December. The three latest additions will bring the number of children, all boys, to seven! Are people having more boys than girls nowadays? Weird. The boys in Miss Pink Cheeks’ Advanced Academic Placement class at school outnumber the girls, too.

Off to get a cup of tea and admire Artemis some more. Have a good day, all!

    • A trip to find apples sounds wonderful!

I am worried about your election as well but there is even less that I can do – you can at least vote. If the trumpian politics of white anger wins in Virginia, it will encourage the worst of the worst to continue their attacks on civilized society. I understand that the attack ads against Northam are awful. I hope people realize what they are and ignore them.

The headline from the story yesterday about the Walmart killer in Colorado said his neighbors described him as “rude and angry”. He is Trumpian Man, butthurt white males – with guns and anger – feeling free to do and say whatever they want.

  3. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

It is 39 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 46. Cloudy with showers most of the day with the rain stopping this evening.

Don’t forget to turn your clocks back before you go to sleep! Since my “new” computer came early in the day yesterday I am nearly finished with the setup (over 200 Windows updates ran overnight and are just finishing up this morning!), I plan to use my extra hour for sleep.

I got the Fighting Back post done on-time today! The topic is the heinous Cut Cut Cut Act proposed by House Republicans.

Fighting Back: “As Democrats, we will fight to build an economy that works for all.”

It includes a press conference where Nancy Pelosi calls California Republicans “lemmings” for jumping off the cliff to obey their corporate masters and her hopes to flip a few of those seats blue.

The Angry Apricot is heading to Asia to embarrass us on a different continent but being in a different time zone means that his tweeted bowel movements will not be early enough to become the news of the day. Yesterday he inserted a “solemn” message about the Pearl Harbor memorial in between his spittle-flecked rants about the DNC. Very dignified! I am sure the families of those entombed in the U.S.S. Arizona feel honored.

    See all y’all later!

    • BlogGoddess, you are making me laugh! (Sympathetically, mind you.) It’s easy to see from your posts that like most of us, you feel so outraged you’ve taken to using strong language. Your brilliant “tweeted bowel movements” is going to make me chuckle all day!

My own language has deteriorated since The Occupant started desecrating the White House. On Twitter I’m quite nasty.

(Glumly) I used to be rather sweet. Oh well, at least it’s going to be a normal fall day here. It’s party cloudy in NoVa—one of those gray-blue mornings—with a current temp. of 46 F., going up to 59 F.

  4. Slept in, then slept in more as I hit “dismiss” instead of snooze. Waiting for Joy Reid’s show. Going to cook this weekend. And get a ring cut off that I foolishly put on my middle finger as a teen & never took off. It’s one of the things I’m using to finance my U2 ticket. And I am definitely going to the gym. Got 6 months to get in good shape to enjoy a night on my feet.

  5. It’s a gray, cloudy, not cool enough for a fire not warm enough for comfort day. I’d light a fire anyway but I don’t like breathing smoke. So I turned up the furnace to 66 and will endure. I may do a fire anyway this evening – I can’t sleep if my feet aren’t warm. And they aren’t. The PV system was off until after noon yesterday – or at least it reported being off. When I checked around 4 pm it was on and had generated enough to make me wonder if it had really been off or if there was something going on with the reporting software program. Anyway, got 7.2 KWHs yesterday and with the 1.5 so far today the m-t-d is 23 – still on track to make the 200 for the month which would be nice.

My mind went numb on 11/9/16 as far as the Evil Ones are concerned. I knew what we were in for. We’re just getting the specifics now. If we can keep or get back enough governorships and statehouses to rollback or prevent voter suppression we still have the ability to get out of this mess within a few years. That’s what we need to focus on and that’s what the Rs/R-owned media are doing their unfortunately too good best to distract us from. Hope for the best and work like hell to get there, however we can.

    I need to get over to DK – have my Sharing Saturday diary to finish tweaking – it posts in about 30 minutes. Bright the day (or what’s left of it), Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
