Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: Dec. 31st through Jan. 6th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (every Sunday morning). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

  1. Good morning, Meese. I’ve been scarce lately but thought I’d check in. We had rain yesterday and the night before that which was a welcome sight.

    WYgalinCali seems to be having trouble getting to the Moose with a HTTP 400 error. Any suggestions on what she could try?

    • I posted my check in, and it got a “couldn’t return you” screen. I just opened a new tab & clicked on my Moose icon in it (my “new tab” screen saves all the places I frequent) & it was fine. So maybe a new tab would work for her?

  2. Good morning, 42 and raining in Bellingham. Another long night of coughing, sneezing and wheezing. This cold/flue seems to be lasting forever, whaaaaa!

    Small progress with Christmas put away……the dead flowers are gone and the tree ornaments are piled on the dining room table. The tree will go out the door today for the scouts to pick up tomorrow and hopefully the Christmas Spode will all be back in the pantry cupboard today as well.

    Take care everyone.

  3. Good morning, meese! Saturday …

    It is -8 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 9. Mostly sunny with clouds later in the day and a chance of snow. The deep freeze will end and we will have temperatures in the upper 20s tomorrow – into the 50s by the end of the week!!

    I am skipping the news this morning as I have a computer setup to do later today that I need to prep for.

    See all y’all later!

  4. Saturday Meese – today is Three Kings Day (Dia de los Reyes) in Puerto Rico
    Lin Manuel Miranda talked about the day in this WaPo appeal

    2 degrees here in Saugerties NY – Wind Chill -8

    Need to go make another pot of coffee – bbl….
    update – Just diaried it

  5. Good morning, Meese, it’s still a bit too dark to see what the day will be like. At the moment it’s 8 F., going up to a whopping 18 F. today.

    Haven’t looked at the news yet but I’m sure it’s awful.

    Will read more of Fire and Fury when I get a chance, but otherwise we’re still tidying up, etc., because of our Australian niece and her partner arriving tomorrow.

    As Denise says, be back later!

  6. Joy Reid is having fun with the “stable genius” thing, her show today should be great. We’re having great weather here, sending out warm thoughts to all y’all dealing with the crazy cold. Going to both walk outside & go to the gym today. Don’t laugh, I really will.     • {{{anotherdemocrat}}} – glad the weather is good, at least for the moment. Enjoy your walk. And your music. moar {{{HUGS}}}

  7. Good morning, 42 and cloudy in Bellingham. Not much new from me today, but small progress with Christmas put away and a slight improvement with this dreadful cold is welcome regardless.

    Take care everyone.

    • {{{princesspat}}} more Healing Energy and glad there’s some improvement. I’m taking down my tree and putting up the decorations today. Wish I had someone to do it with – make it as much a part of the “celebration” as getting them out. moar {{{HUGS}}}

  8. 20-something at dawn, 33 now and heading for mid 40s again. Sunny again. Got 7.86 KWHs yesterday and with this morning’s driblets m-t-d is 35.9 so should get over 40 by mid afternoon. Rain ‘spozed to move in tomorrow – which we need – so hope today is a good generating day.

    Just did what I hope will be my quarterly critter supply run (cat food, litter, bird seed & suet blocks) – except I forgot “crunchy treats” for dental health. sigh. I had a very interesting twitter conversation with Aji yesterday about what is and isn’t “due process” – brought up by the Franken issue & Gillibrand targeting of course – as a former 8th-9th grade Social Studies teacher I’d totally misunderstood the legal aspects. Good to have a friend who’s been a NY lawyer (even if not currently living in NY). But I need to “cut back” on twitter again. It’s not “jumping the waves” right now, it’s being knocked over by a fire hose stream.

    Need to get some more coffee and check in at DK Village then start on some outside work while we’ve got the sunshine. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
