Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: Sept. 16th to Sept. 22nd

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (every Sunday morning). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

  1. Good Saturn’s Day morning, Moosekind! It’s still late summer according to the calendar but we’ll wake up to autumn tomorrow. Speaking of that, there was once a scent called “Golden Autumn” by Prince Matchabelli that disappeared from the market long ago. Why is it that the products one likes disappear? My own theory is that the FBI did it.

    Yesterday was exhausting, but thankfully, it’s over. The Writers’ Group here is so badly organized I often think of leaving it. The “moderator” has no control at all over the members. A few of us, self included, take pains to read for no more than 5 minutes, while others take 20 minutes. It’s unfair, as the meeting is supposed to be limited to one hour. My little piece was received better than I expected: the 7 males and 4 other females appeared riveted by the subject. One man protested feebly “not all men,” so of course I hastened to reassure him.

    Oh, well, all this is minor compared to real problems. I’m exhausted by the goings-on with Coathanger Kav and now Rosenstein has been thrown into the mix of Breaking-Breaking-Breaking news. Can we have a coupla days off?

    Oh, the weather: we have a mackerel sky with blue showing through, what a nice change! The current temperature in NoVa is 69 F., going up to 73 F. Perfect weather for viewing Younger Son’s latest house, which is what we’re going to do this morning.

    Wishing all Meese and their calves a nice, quiet day at the Pond with no awful news.

  2. Rainy Saturday morning — even some flooding & water rescues. A heavy band of rain even woke me up around 5:30, it was nice to roll over & go back to sleep. This afternoon there’s a postcard writing thing for Beto. The debate went well. Today’s song: sweet, mellow Don’t Give In.

  3. 56 and not gonna get much warmer today. Had drizzle starting around noon yesterday straight through until about 4 am this morning. Still overcast, we’ll see if it clears off. Only 3.78 KWHs yesterday – not as much as I use in a day – and the m-t-d is 253 so at least we’ve inched over what the 2.5K system did in 2014. Hoping we’ll get some sunny days to catch up and at least reach 300 for the month.

    Getting most of my news via signal boosting for Aji, Denise, and Jan – other Meeses as I see ’em of course. Just as well. The news is as Deplorable as the people holding power – and the people who elected them, directly or indirectly. My own disappointing news is that my younger son and family won’t be able to come up for “decorate the Tree at grandma’s” this year – he had to take too much time with his surgery last July. They hope to make it during Spring Break when the boys will be out of school. Disappointing but at least everybody’s healthy and that’s the main thing.

    Baked oatmeal walnut cookies to heat up the kitchen this morning. Managed not to break any so I’ll have to find another excuse to eat one before I put them in the cookie jar. LOL. While it’s definitely cool enough I’m not gonna light a fire this morning as I’ll be leaving in about 2 hours for Dem HQ. Definitely gonna lay the fire so I can light it when I get back though. Healing Energy to everybody shaped to the need. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  4. Good morning, 61 and cloudy in Bellingham. It’s going to rain off and on today so I’ll be in and out of the garden. It’s time to put the cushions, outdoor rug, extra chairs, etc away and start the fall cleanup. RonK will take care of the umbrellas because they need a good scrubbing. We let them dry in the basement before storing them in the garage.

    That should be enough activity to help keep my mind rested from the exhausting and infuriating news of the day. Best wishes to all.

  5. It’s a sunny 88 at home here in Mission Viejo. Did a precinct walk for Mike Levin with a bunch of other Canyon Dems, Managed to finish my little patch. Had lunch afterwards.
