Good morning, meeses! Friday …
It is 72 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 81. Partly cloudy skies are in the forecast. The weather widget says we are having light showers right now but I don’t hear anything so they must be very light.
The Trump administration has ended the suspension of the Federal death penalty and will begin killing people again. This should shock no one who knows William Barr and understands that Republicans are the party of vengeance: innocent, guilty, doesn’t matter – kill them all and let their god sort it out! Bastids. This time around, I hope we have a nominee who does not support the Federal death penalty and suspends it again then works to repeal it. They do not have permission to kill in my name.
Russians targeted election systems in all 50 states, Republicans – who need foreign help to win elections – yawn. If we don’t have fair elections, we are toast in 2020. It will be a close election, it will be decided in a handful of states some of which have outdated and easily compromised systems. It won’t matter how good our candidates are, how good we are at GOTV – if the vote is ratfked, if our elections are compromised again, we can’t win. I don’t see how our country would survive that.

Last cool morning — upper 60s, yay! I got in a short walk yesterday & today — just 15 minutes, but I had to soak up the cool while it’s here. Such a treat. Yesterday’s stage of Le Tour was… wow. Was talking to someone on Twitter who said “you’re thinking to yourself, you’ve never seen this, then Phil (Liggett, the commentator for American TV) says he’s never seen this, and he’s been watching for 40 years….. Good Freya’s Day, Meese! It’s yet another delightful morning, so inviting that I’d like to just sit on the porch and read. The new novel by David Baldacci, One Good Deed, got off to a very slow start (at first I thought, “Oh, dear Goddess, not the 1950s!”), but now I hate putting it down to do necessary chores such as going to sleep, eating breakfast, and whatnot.
We have clear blue skies and sunlight again in Ashburn, with a current temp. of 70 F., going up to 86 F., with El Zero chance of rain.
Also, we have at least three-and-a-half childless days coming up. Younger Son will deliver Mr. K. to us some time on Monday. Grandma is planning to hide the iPad and the Kindle so we can do something real, even if it involves making cookies.
Today I’ve got lunch at Anita’s with a political friend and her henchwoman, and two delightful chores: transplanting the mint into a bigger pot and rewrapping the silver tea set in plastic wrap until the next silver-worthy visitor arrives. (The local family gets tea made in our everyday teapot.)
I’m so upset by the latest act of the Barr-barian that I don’t want to think about politics for a few hours. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond and relief from muscle spasms for princesspat’s grandson.
Good morning meese, it’s 69 with a high of 96 or higher today. Just a quick check in before I go to work. 😁
It’s 64, going up to mid 80s today, and sunny so far. It’s a bit more humid so it’s a little sticky and not as comfortable as it’s been the last few days. It’s still “no A/C” weather though. So far. We got some midafternoon clouds yesterday – no rain – but still generated 18 KWHs and the m-t-d is 454 – 6 days of production left so I think we’re gonna make the target. I think.
I’m still seeing folks I like, admire, respect, and usually try to take my lead from on political things saying stuff like “we have to impeach, the elections will be rigged if there are any elections at all” – I have no idea what part of we cannot remove him from office they don’t understand. Yes, we will have to fight for clean (or at least clean enough) elections and definitely overwhelm the polls with our people to stop the most prevalent election fraud that depends on low turnout. But we’ve got a 50-50 chance of replacing the president as well as enough members of the R party in Congress to do the job. We have 0 chance removing him via impeachment and even if we could that doesn’t deal with the party that is supporting all of the evil everyone seems to think twitler is magically responsible for all by himself. As to no elections at all, that is testimony to the effectiveness of several decades of RW MSM propaganda. The presidential election isn’t the only much less the only important election. Do folks really, truly, think that 50 state secretaries of state, 10s of thousands of County election commissions are going to not do their constitutional duty, not have city council elections, county official elections, state legislature elections, Congressional elections, and various ballot initiative elections? The president is on the top of the ballot every 4 years by constitutional law – we are not a parliamentary form of government that “calls” an election at need, we are a constitutional form of government that has regularly scheduled elections – but the ballot that office is at the top of is very long. Those are not going to be blown off because we have a narcissistic sociopath who thinks life is one of his reality shows in the White House. I just don’t understand how such very intelligent and experienced people can be walking this path. And you don’t know the number of times I’ve gone back and re-read the constitution just to be sure it wasn’t me. That’s how much I respect these folks. sigh.
My friend and I went out for nachos last night. Maybe we don’t have a taco truck on every corner but there are some more or less actual Mexican eateries around here as well as the pseudo-Mexican chains. It was pleasant – this wasn’t a place that had “drinks” just beer in the with the bottled soft drinks – but that’s OK. I don’t go out for the alcohol, I go out for the company – which was good. Good morning, 62 and sunny in Bellingham. Between naps and early to bed last night I’ve had lots of sleep so I hope I can find something fun to do today. Ron is going on a Land Trust hike and Ava was going to go with him but had to have a wart removed from her foot so she is home recuperating.
The native plant store is open today so I’m going to find a few more plants for the salal planting I’m trying to make more interesting. I can’t dig the holes, but I can put the plants in place. And I have an idea for a cutting garden that I want to pursue. So easy garden fun, and maybe lunch with my sister seems to be the plan.

Good morning, Meesefolk; 66 when I got up and going up to a sunny 84. The rest of the weekend is supposed to be very hot and muggy, so if I want to get any gardening done, it will have to be bright and early or late in the day. My days of enjoying working in the heat of the day have never actually existed, but in the past, I would still do it. Those days are long gone.
Alternatively, I may just grab some books and run away from home to sit on Diana’s porch (the everyday tea service is fine with me). I’m in such a cranky mood. The audit finally ended yesterday, and while overall, it was more frustrating and stressful for the auditors (their boss was creating havoc), it’s still a PITA and as usual, new procedures are being required because. Just because. I had to start communicating the new procedures to clients already this morning, and much unhappiness has been expressed with much vehemence. It’s always fun to have your head torn off for being the messenger; I get that it’s always a part of customer service, but it doesn’t mean I have to like it.
And now back to work. The audit may be over, but I have a 2-ft high pile of documents that have to be refiled. I’m not even going to try to finish it today, but I should probably try to make some progress. Good day to and for all.
Please let us know what you’re going to plant in your cutting garden, princesspat. We are allowed to have gardens here in the space set aside for that purpose. I might ask for one next year.
DoReMI, you are welcome to come to my porch any time in the warm months for tea and reading! That’s what I did last night: arranged myself on the loveseat with my feet sticking out over one end, and enjoyed reading my book. Occasionally I would look up to revel in the sun setting over the woods across the way and the scents of mint and blooming lavender in the pots.

It is 75 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 82. Sunny this morning but a chance of thunderstorms this afternoon. Tomorrow is supposed to be in the upper 80s.
It sounds as though an impeachment inquiry will be starting up in the House Judiciary Committee. This is a good plan as it allows House members who are not quite there to avoid having to vote to start the inquiry – the committee will begin the process and start gathering the documents they need and will draw up the articles of impeachment to present to the full House at some point. I suspect that the House Intelligence Committee will do something similar, Adam Schiff seems more reluctant than Jerry Nadler does. I think this is a smart followup to the Mueller hearings – there were no bombshells, no smoking guns but there was a statement by a respected longtime public servant that there were numerous instances of obstruction of justice that he was Barred from prosecuting. That is enough to impeach. Certainly, if there was ever a president* who deserved impeachment, it is Donald J. Trump. While it won’t result in conviction and removal, the House needs to make the case to the American public about the lawlessness of the person who will be running for reelection next year. The Senate may acquit but the voters will have the final say.
Mississippi officials will replace the bullet-ridden Emmet Till sign with a new sign that weighs 500 pounds and is bulletproof. Yes, that will fix everything – just make a sign bulletproof and 150+ years of racial animus will disappear! If you want to be symbolic, how about dismantling the Confederate statues and removing the stars and bars from the state flag?
I have to put some time in this morning to catch up from a lost day of technical support phone/chat hell. No one is worse to deal with than a vendor who controls a key aspect of your customer’s business and who is grossly incompetent and unwilling to provide tech support for their awful products without a fee. A one hour project turned into four hours of wheel spinning. I finally found what I needed from another support source but I am going to make a concerted effort to convince the client to change vendors when their service comes up for renewal next March.
The Weekly Democratic Party Address was delivered by Congresswoman Haley Stevens of Michigan touting the work done in the first 200 days of the Democratic House. I will be putting up the Fighting Back post later in the morning after peel back a few layers of my to-do stack.

Got home really late last night from the Young Lords’ celebration which was a success – packed house, overflow crowd.
Excellent AJ+ video. Those people did tremendous work! I hope they keep the new governor’s feet to the fire!!

Watching the news & Le Tour. Yesterday was crazy — incredibly hard mountain stage, I think they said it was the highest stage ever. But there was a huge hailstorm & mountain slide, they had to stop the stage before the blocked road. Several favorites were just starting to gain back time on the descent, but they called the time at the summit. Yellow jersey changed hands, and last year’s winner — who had been on pace to be the one to take the yellow, is now riding for his teammate instead. And there’s so much going on in politics.
It was 60 at dawn, 64 now, in Fay., AR and sunny at the moment. We got 22.8 KWHs yesterday, the new 2nd highest for the month, and the m-t-d is 477 – so it’s possible although not likely for us to reach 500 today. Making it possible (although not likely) to actually make a new “record” by getting over 561. It would be nice to have something – anything – go that right this year.
I am delighted that the House is stepping up investigations. If they want to call them impeachment investigations, OK. As long as they don’t actually vote on Articles of Impeachment the investigations can continue in all directions which is good (they finally nailed Al Capone on income tax fraud. not the various violent crimes he was responsible for) – but once a vote on Articles of Impeachment happens we get several really unhelpful results. The investigations stop. The whole thing is placed in the Senate’s hands. Twitler is “vindicated” with an acquittal – and the Rs having gleefully gotten away with literal treason and murder, turn the concentration camps into death camps. Among other things. Like finish packing the federal courts with KKK. And we certainly won’t win an election against a vindicated president. The Rs will probably get back the House in reprisal for the “Dem witchhunt”. In fact, every geedee thing the pro-impeachment folks think the magic impeachment will stop will actually be guaranteed. I’m tired.
Lovely peaches and tomatoes at the market today. I usually do cantaloupes this time of year but they aren’t looking as good as the peaches. I got more CBD oil from the co-op for Murf as well as the appetite stimulant from the vet yesterday. But I’m beginning to think the problem is he just doesn’t like being around other cats. So once this bottle of CBD oil is gone, I may try Feliway instead. Unless a miracle happens. Maybe the vet finds someone who wants an (as in one) older, calm, cat I could rehome him to. I’ve done that before. Murf’s sweet but I want him to be happy. Anyway – off to read the Fighting Back post, tour the internets, and coffee. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

Greatly enjoyed Jan’s “Fighting Back” post this morning in which Pelosi said the Democrats are going to own August! Pelosi has a plan, as always.
Yesterday at lunch my political friend said we have to win Florida in November 2020. If we win Florida and Pennsylvania, we’ll win the election. She seemed to think I should do something to win Florida. (Gulp) Like what? Yes, I can donate to candidates and possibly even to the fee funds for ex-felons when I have the cash, but other than that I really don’t see what I can do. When we have postcard-writing parties here at the Home for the Aged, it’s for candidates in Virginia.
Not yet sure what the Outrage of the Day is, nor am I sure I want to know. (Remember the days when we simply enjoyed summer rather than fretting our bowels to fiddlestrings over the latest high crime and misdemeanor?) The outrages we already know about are enough to induce permanent nausea.
Late summer is so bittersweet. I’m going to decorate the outside of our door with a wreath of artificial sunflowers and our adjacent ledge with a statuette of Diana and her hunting dogs, surrounded by artificial greenery to represent woods.

Good morning, 64 and mostly cloudy in Bellingham. Per usual yesterday had a mind of it’s own and my plans adjusted to reality. I didn’t do any thing in the garden, but I did get the cake ordered for Emma’s birthday tomorrow. And while shopping for a card at the bookstore I bought a new Maisie Dobbs book and The Priority of the Orange Tree.
Today I’m going to see a quilt exhibit at The Whatcom Museum. I hope to attend the workshop as well, but my family is still deciding various schedules so I’m trying to be flexible.
