Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: Sept. 15th through Sept. 21st

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

  1. LMM making the world a better place, every day:

  2. The low was 68, it’s 70 now, and really not expected to get out of the 70s today. Might get rain. Definitely will get clouds to the detriment of our electricity generation. Yesterday was cloudy enough we only got 10 KWHs (m-t-d is 257.6) and I doubt we’ll get that much today. Or tomorrow. Or most if not all of next week. sigh. At least I’ll be able to keep the house open most of the time. The cats, especially the Twins, like that.

    Rs being evil. I don’t need the details. I need to help put people into power who will stop them. But my efforts – and my donations – seem so puny. Definitely not enough to make a difference. Which is pretty much my feelings about my efforts to help my friends, too. The little bits I send them – a tank of gas here, a bag of groceries or dogfood there – are just so very not enough to make a difference in the magnitude of their issues. Which just seem to get greater.

    This latest thing with Aji – Wings’s nephew with meningoencephalitis from West Nile Virus and his very-good-for-America insurance at work won’t transport him out of state for treatment. But there isn’t a treatment center in NM. The nearest as well as best is in Denver, CO. The mediflight’s gonna cost at least $20K – the GFM the family set up is for $50K to deal with all the not covered expenses but so far it’s not even raised enough to get him to treatment. Meanwhile she can’t even get the tweet/link to get traction much less “go viral” as it needs to. & that’s depressing her, too, considering all the people whose fundraisers she’s boosted (& even donated to when possible) – it doesn’t cost a cent to RT a link and yet those folks haven’t done it. sigh. (& it’s a climate-change warning/issue too. Mosquitos bearing West Nile Virus are in NM now. They’ve been in AR for over 15 years. And they’re moving north.)

    Something interesting must be happening by the bird feeders – all the cats just headed that way. LOL. I doubt it’d still be there by the time I got there so I’m not going to look. That does free up my lap so I can go make coffee though. heh. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  3. Good morning, Meesefolk; 61 this morning and heading to 81 here and 86 in OH. It looks like there is a strong chance of rain throughout the weekend in OH, so it’s a good thing our plans are mostly of the stay-at-home variety. I leave in less than an hour; in retrospect, I really don’t know why I thought I needed to work at all today, but it’s too late now.

    I’m not really paying attention to the details of the national breakdown of the Rule of Law, because I don’t see that anyone has a solution for when party decides rules don’t apply to them. I am noting that the Berners are going nuts for reasons which evade me, but when Aphra Behn compares their actions to Gamergate, you know it has to be bad. Sen. Warren may or may not be acting evasive w/r/t costs associated with Medicare for All, and Sen. Harris is going to be camping out in IA. From what I’m seeing, whoever is going news-light this weekend is doing the smart thing. There’s an awful lot of Sturm and Drang that doesn’t have to be…the crap from Individual 1 and this administration is more than enough. I will be one of those unwired for the weekend.

    Good day to and for all!

    • I think the Sanders v Warren stuff you see is that the berners are angry that the Working Families Party endorsed Warren and are attacking the black people who are in that organization because that is what they do. It is pretty meaningless – the WFP’s candidate will not win the New York primary, it will be either Biden or Harris.

  4. Good morning, 59 and cloudy in Bellingham. The community college event last night was nice. We visited with a few old friends, enjoyed the art exhibit, and were impressed with the student speakers. It’s good for my tRump weary soul to be in a setting where education is the focus and the shared values are life affirming.

    Best wishes to all.

  5. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

    It is 72 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 75. Showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast.

    I had to click and close Twitter in disgust yesterday as the calls for impeachment morphed into calls for Nancy Pelosi to be removed. Good lord, people, the impeachment process is underway! You don’t short-circuit that and immediately take up a vote based on newspaper accounts of an incident!! These are the same people who wanted George W. Bush and Dick “Dick” Cheney executed without a trial. If we stop investigating and react to the 24 hour news cycle – and the screams of those who hate Nancy Pelosi because she won’t given them her pony – we are no better than Republicans. Add the Ukraine episode to the articles of impeachment, investigate and then present the case to Congress. It is simple math – there are not enough votes right now to impeach. Nancy Pelosi is not blocking anything; she has said all along that when the public support is there, there will be a vote. And Elizabeth Warren, from the cheap seats – a permanent Senate seat in a solid blue state, and probably a nice nest egg to retire on – calling Congress “complicit” if they don’t impeach, STHU!! You are no better than the berners who don’t have any skin in this, who followed Susan Sarandon off the cliff and gave us Trump. If we lose the House by rushing impeachment and losing the swing seats, you are not harmed but my family will be. So go wag your finger with the other finger waggers and leave Nancy Pelosi alone.

    I accidentally overslept on a day I had set aside for catching up so I am now further behind. :(

    See all y’all later!

    • Sis, please get some rest after this! You’ve been going at top speed lately, so you need time to decompress and chill, as they say nowadays. {{{Hugs}}}

  6. Good Saturn’s Day morning, Meese! It’s 56 F. in Ashburn, going up to the high 80s today. The sky is clear and we won’t get any rain until mid-October or thereabouts. Yes, we’re in a pre-drought. Only the excessive rain we received the first half of the year is keeping the water table going.

    Sitting here drinking a loathsome concoction involving four different kinds of seeds and nuts, two different kinds of “butters” (coconut and almond), almond milk, cranberries, and blueberries. I refused to put in the avocado called for, so this “shake” mainly tastes of almonds. Yecch, gotta drink this every morning until October 1! (Cue tiny violins.)

    Yesterday morning I took a coupla wrong turns but finally ended up at HQ. There I stacked and inserted tons of brochures for people to use in canvassing today. For some reason I cannot fathom, this really took it out of me—by the time I got home I ached all over and had to go to bed. Got up in time to go to dinner, but when we learned from our dinner companions that the previous night’s performance of the talent show had resulted in a standing-room-only audience, we decided not to go. I still ached, so I downed two aspirin and went to bed at 9 p.m. At least I don’t ache this morning.

    Thing continues break every law, ignore every norm, and…nothing happens. He reminds me of a character in a Silly Jilly novel: those characters never eat food, they only drink alcohol, yet they never incur scurvy, boils, cirrhosis of the liver or other ills, they just continue to be beautiful and sex-crazed.

    Well, the Democrats’ luncheon is today and I need to get cracking on the laundry, so will wish all at the Pond a good day.

  7. Leaving soon for the Walk, will post pictures when I get home. It’s going to be another hot day, sigh.

  8. It never got out of the 70s yesterday – high or low – and it’s 70 right now. Yesterday we got a lot of clouds and a little rain – only generated 5 KWHs. The m-t-d is 262.9 so 400 is still possible. But iffy. It’s sunny at the moment and heading for mid 80s but clouds are expected to move back in this afternoon. We shall see what we shall see.

    I saw the way the TL was going – impeach now! fire Pelosi! – and got off it. People I respect and who damn-well ought to know better about how the system works are screaming for it. I’m tempted to ask them why they hate America. Twitler hasn’t “gotten away with” anything yet. But hold an impeach now vote that most certainly won’t pass will let him “get away with” everything. And show him, the rest of the Rs, and the entire world, just how weak a position Dems are in right now – and quite probably get enough Dems to stay home next year to guarantee the fascist takeover gets completed. But I’m not going to do that on twitter. I can’t teach civics – or political realities – in a tweet.

    I’ve done my marketing, had breakfast, discovered paw-paws make me queasy, done the dishes. I’m gonna do a quick check around the internets then go get my hair cut. I’ll read as in depth as I ever do when I get back. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  9. Good morning, 57 and partly sunny in Bellingham. A few more rainy days are forecast, and then some sunny days so I think I’ll leave the patio furnishings out awhile longer. It’s to chilly for outdoor diners, but autumn lunches are nice. And I still enjoy reading outside so that’s what I will do today.

    Best wishes to all.
