Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: Dec. 1st through Dec. 7th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

  1. We’ve got a front moving in, as my joints can tell. Our high of 53 was just after midnight. We’re at 43 now and apparently holding until sundown. Just cold though. No rain. It’s sunny now and supposed to be all day. Which would be nice. Might get us back on track. Yesterday we got a little over 5 KWHs but the previous days were enough over 7 that the m-t-d of 34 is just a single kilowatt under what “on track” would be. As always we shall see what we shall see.

    I’ve been watching us on this political trajectory since Nixon. Not a steady track – Carter, Clinton, & Obama slowed it down and even changed the direction in some aspects it’s true. But they never addressed the root cause – reactionary John Birch Society et al – and unfortunately both Carter and Clinton signed bills that gave more power to the propaganda machine the birchers started building back in 1958. (I’m not sure Clinton had much of a choice. He signed it because the Rs had enough votes to override his veto.) I wish I was more hopeful about the future. Actually my only real hope is that there are people working to break up that propaganda machine covertly. We don’t need a “hero” – damn sure don’t need a white (male) savior. We need to find where the monster lairs and collapse the cave on it. Surely I am not the only person who knows this blood and bone. Surely those with more power/access to power than I will ever have are working on this. Meanwhile the nation becomes more fascist. And way too many people seem to think getting rid of twitler is going to stop the evil and keep screaming about impeachment instead of looking for whoever filled out those signed blank EOs. Should he be impeached? Of course. He’s more than committed high crimes and misdemeanors. He should also be removed from office (yeah, right), indicted, and imprisoned. But that is not going to stop the evil. Just make everybody accept the quiet version once the noisemaker is removed. It’s the geedee patriarchy colonial system on steroids. Once they have enough of the Courts everything done since FDR is going to be erased. & what women BIPOC have been referring to as “white feminism” is going to help by throwing BIPOC women under the bus just like it did in the fight for the 19th Amendment. And if we don’t manage to stop this in the 2020 election cycle, presupposing 2016 wasn’t our real last chance, well the generations lost to fascism will also be quite possibly the last generations of what is laughingly called civilized society. It may already be too late on climate change but 40 years from now will definitely be too late and in fact most of our coastal cities won’t exactly be coast any longer. sigh. So like our parents did, we shall do our duty. And pray. A lot.

    • Hope he gets elected. Be nice to have something to be proud of in my birth state again. {{{HUGS}}}

  2. Good morning, 43 and cloudy in Bellingham. It’s hard to screw up making napkins, but I’ve managed to do so. I was distracted and cut an already cut and folded stack of fabric in half, oops! Christmas prints are basically gone by now but I found a cream and burgundy print at a quilt shop that will work with the linens I made my DIL last Christmas. However there was not quite enough on the bolt, so now I’ve got to be careful cutting and creative re the hems. She and my son are hosting more of the large family Christmas dinners now and they enjoy setting a pretty table, so the napkins will be used and appreciated. I just need to keep focused and get them sewn :)

    I hope my Dr. appointment take long so we can get the Christmas tree today. I like to let the rain water and the bugs fall off in the garage before we bring it into the house, so that needs to happen tonight. Seems like I’m scrambling to keep up with December this year. As always, my best wishes to all as we find our way through another December day.

  3. Saturday Meese
    16 degrees here in the Catskills (brrrrr) going up to 34

      • It’s slow – you have to wait a couple of days between getting and using the water – but if they’ve got clear glass or plastic bottles/containers and sunshine they can purify the water by setting it in the sun for 2 days. That won’t do anything about heavy metal contaminants but it will deal with biological ones.

  4. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

    It is 28 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 37. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast.

    I am glad to see that Mayo Pete is finally getting the vetting he deserves. It is a shame that the media could not have done it sooner when it may have exposed him as the DLC/No Labels/Third Way fraud that he is and allowed for more suitable Democratic Party candidates to gather some momentum. He sucked a lot of air out of the race and now he will crash and burn. If the plan of the mainstream media was to make Joe Biden the only acceptable candidate left standing, then they are succeeding. It is what their corporate bosses want – no rocking the boat, a guy loved by both banksters and Republicans who see him as the chump he is. Psst, Joe, it is the PARTY not the PERSON that we need to run against.

    The Democratic Party Weekly Address is by a Congressman from Illinois, Sean Casten, who was part of the congressional delegation that Nancy Pelosi took to Madrid for the climate change meetings. Our “government in waiting” is keeping the flame burning so that we can quickly get back to our proper role as leader on climate change mitigation. I hope we can recover from the damage done by the Republicans. :(

    See all y’all later!

  5. Up & watching the news. Yesterday was exhausting at work, but they’re re-arranging things so we can get through the big backlog of new applications. It’s great that we’re reaching more people who should have our service, but we really need more people. Today: clean house, groceries, and at least get started on next week’s lunch. Tomorrow my Dem club is having our holiday party, so there’ll be less time for cooking. Oh — and can’t forget my mile.

  6. Good Saturn’s Day morning, Moosekind! It’s a nice fair morning here in Ashburn, with a current temp of 30 chilly degrees F. It’ll go up to 44 F. later today.

    Today is the anniversary of Pearl Harbor Day. I usually take a few minutes to think about that awful morning. I wasn’t even born then, but thinking about the ships in Pearl Harbor under attack by Japanese bombers chills my blood.

    Still struggling to feel holiday-ish, considering my dreams of a woman president have once again been trashed. Jan has put the case very well: the corporate-controlled legacy media wants a “no rock-the-boater” and that’s what we would get with Unca Joe. I frankly think he’s too weak to win: he has too much baggage and this (probably) manufactured Hunter Biden business is beginning to carry the weight of “emailghazi.” There’s very likely no there there, but as Goebbels said, if you tell a big enough lie often enough, people will believe it.

    Still have lots to do before picking up The Littles this afternoon. They’ll sleep on the foldout sofa in my office (luckily Dearly Beloved vacuumed it yesterday), so that’s okay. Have to tidy the horrible-looking desk and whatnot.

    Wishing lots of sunshine to bfitz’s solar array and a nice quiet Saturday to everyone else.

  7. It’s 29 heading for mid 50s and sunny in Fay., AR this Saturday morning. We got right at 7 KWHs yesterday so the m-t-d is a hair over 41 – not back on track but we haven’t lost any ground either. We’ll see what today brings. I’ve got my weekly grocery shopping done. Some time soon I need to get up to PetSmart for kibble but it’s not urgent. The Tractor Supply run can wait a bit – I’ve still got about 20 lbs of sunflower seed, 4 suet blocks, and an unopened bag of litter.

    Still struggling with the issue of Kamala being forced out. Partly because of her – she’s a great candidate and her plans were right up there with Hillary’s for dealing with causes to prevent issues, for dealing with the systemic racism in this country. Partly because of what she stands for. A Black, Asian-American, pragmatic-progressive Woman president says so very much to all the little girls – and boys – in this country. Yes, of course Himmler’s propaganda arm is working on having Joe for the Dem candidate. Then they’ll run the Huntergate like they ran emailghazi through the rest of the campaign. And a Comey clone will come up with a “maybe there’s something there” followed a couple of days later with “nah, nothing there” a week or so before the election. rto thinks only a serious recession will stop the Rs. He also thinks the Rs are gonna run Twitler with Haley this time, then pull Twitler some time after January 2021 to give us Nikki Haley as our 1st woman president. He may be right. Which of course will cement WASP fascism for at least a generation. If we are going to get out of this mess, ever get back on the road toward “freedom and justice for all” we have got to break up that propaganda machine.

    Meanwhile, rollercoaster with everybody I care about. Some more serious climbs & drops with Amelia and Aji, but everybody’s got them. sigh. And there is so very little I can do about it. Anyway – Invoking/Channeling Healing/Helping Energy to all who need it and accept it, to their shaping. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  8. Good morning, 48 and cloudy in Bellingham. We’ve found our Christmas tree at the same garden shop for more years than I can recall but thanks to a new supplier the choices were awful yesterday so Ron will go back this morning and see what the new shipment looks like. My son and I enjoyed putting the fake tree together for my sewing room and when it;s covered with all the ole nostalgia ornaments it looks very cheerful, fake or not!

    My Dr. visit was both supportive and sobering. As I suspected arthritis is advancing in my spine and that’s the most likely cause of the increased pain in my legs. I’ll do a venus scan next week just to make sure there are no blood clots. He wants me to look into plasma injections, but that will wait until January. My December plan is to use more pain meds so I can enjoy the fun of family and friends and keep my creative sewing and flower time comfortable. I’m conservative re using pain meds for long term relief, but he reassured me that occasional use is safe.

    Thanks to all for your support. Our friendship means a lot to me.

    • {{{princesspat}}} – lots & lots of Healing Energy – & prayers for no clots. Enjoy your creative time & family time comfortably, however that needs to happen. More Healing Energy, moar {{{HUGS}}}
