Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: May 10th through May 16th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

  3. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

    It is 46 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 72. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast with clouds and rain later this evening.

    I just finished putting up the Fighting Back post which features Representative Deb Haaland of New Mexico discussing the Heroes Act and the specifically the money allocated for tribal governments. This bill, as Speaker Pelosi readily admits, is not expected to pass or even be taken up in the Senate but serves, as she says, as a marker so that the American people know what House Democrats stand for. Fourteen Democrats voted against the bill – some because it did not go far enough and some because it went too far – and one Republican voted for it, Peter King of New York whose constituents are hard hit by the virus. I understand the position of those in swing districts who are concerned about the costs (we need to preserve our majority) but I am not sure I understand the theory behind “voting against a good bill because it is not progressive enough.” I suspect it has its roots in bernerism where voting against the Democrat in 2016 was considered noble. No, it is fking killing us. Meh.

    I need to jump off the outrage wagon for a few days for my sanity so I will scan headlines very quickly and then get back to project work. Saturday mornings start out with the best intentions of getting caught up and I am already running out of steam with very little to show for it. My energy level has definitely changed since February – I am hoping it is general lockdown malaise and not that my age is catching up to me! Some days I feel much older than my numeric years.

    See all y’all later!

    • Hope your day is productive. I know it won’t be as productive as you’d like it to be, because that’s just the way of things, but productive enough to count. 😁 I don’t think your energy level change has anything to do with age. I think it has a whole lot to do with the unrelenting stress of non-stop evil being blasted at us as if from a fire hose. Scanning headlines – or even waiting for an evening wrap up – might help. At least give you a chance to catch your breath. Healing Energy. {{{HUGS}}}

  4. Good Saturday morning, Meese! It’s 68 F. here in Ashburn at the moment, on its way up to 80 F. The weather people say this will be the warmest weekend since September. Right now the cirrus clouds stretching across the pale blue sky look satiny, lit by the sun. Winds today will be 5 to 10 mph, thank Goddess, so I can get my lazy self out for a walk.

    Yesterday afternoon after we’d had showers and tea, I was in a really good mood because it was hot and I was wearing shorts and we’d planted our garden. Then this morning I opened the WaPo to find an article that averred people who plant a garden, even if it’s just little pots on a windowsill or balcony, are happier than non-gardeners. LOL! Dearly Beloved admitted that he slept particularly well last night after all that spading and forking the potting soil into our little patch.

    Today I’ll repot the herbs. I noticed with interest that other gardeners in the garden park had planted the herbs I really like, but I want mine on the screened porch so I can snip before meals. Also, I like sitting on the porch in the summer when the breeze carries the scents of lavender, mint, and rosemary.

    It’s amazing how weather affects one’s mood. Anyway, perhaps I’ll get something done today. There’s always that thought to cheer myself up.

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond, and please limit yourselves to only 20 minutes of news…or less.

  5. Checking in from my phone because my internet went down yesterday. Some time between my check in and around 9:30, it just vanished. I tried resetting both the modem and router a couple of times then gave up and went in to my office. It was weird, downtown is completely deserted, like apocalypse level deserted. But it was nice having a desk. Repair person is coming this afternoon. I hate being so cut off.

    • {{{anotherdemocrat}}} hope your internet is back soon. (Yes, having a desk is nice.) Healing Energy & moar {{{HUGS}}}

  6. It’s 66 heading for low 80s and the day started sunny. It’s already starting to get over it. Rain’s not until this evening but part of the “new normal” is clouding up 10 hours ahead of the rain – and sometimes staying cloudy for another 10 hours after it. Yesterday was so dark we’ve already generated today at .48 KWHs more than we generated the entire day yesterday. (Also so windy the lights flickered and I – temporarily – lost internet connection in the middle of boosting Dee’s Twitter Roundup.) So the m-t-d has just reached 202. I’m not really counting on the month’s generation now that we’ve done enough to cover usage. Not with the system being totally shut off for a couple of days next week. But it’s still data – data showing just how dark and cloudy it’s being, has been for the last 6 months. And that is part of what’s impacting all our moods. Not enough sunshine. Even if folks don’t have SAD, too much cloudy causes problems. Meanwhile, Evil is being Evil and we’re doing what we can. And what I can includes boosting signals on twitter. Which is about to get harder again starting 6/1 as twitter will be disabling all the apps and workarounds we used to get “old twitter” format back and I’ll be forced to use “new twitter”. But boosting signals is what I can do, so I will do it as long as I have access to twitter at all. So. Coffee then back to boosting signals (including the Fighting Back post, of course). Channeling Healing/Helping Energy to everybody to your shaping. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

    • Yes. And I cannot be as tired of them as you are. Healing Energy. Just – Healing Energy.

  7. Good morning, 57 and raining in Bellingham. We’re looking forward to a visit with Lisa and her family tomorrow so I hope the rain doesn’t make us change plans. Being outdoors, spaced between the upper and lower patios, is safer than being indoors. We’re used to being outside on damp days but real rain is just too wet. I really want to see them, and it’s Heidi’s 14th birthday, so I’m going to try to find a way to stay safe and dry.

    Best wishes to all on this rainy day in May.
