Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: June 7th through June 13th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

  1. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

    It is 46 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 68. Sunny skies are in the forecast.

    The Confederate States president claimed to not realize that his hate rally in Tulsa coincided with Juneteenth, the celebration of the end of slavery in the United States, and will change the date. He may not have known – he really is an ignorant person – but you know that Stephen Miller and the campaign knew. They are counting on 100% turnout from the Confederate Party wing of the Republican Party in order to win in November and the best way to ratchet that up is to push out as many hate optics as possible. I wonder who convinced them to change it – I think probably the City of Tulsa who realized that they would be the target of massive protests for allowing the rally to proceed on that date.

    Representative Karen Bass of California, the Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, delivered the Weekly Democratic Address – the subject is the Justice in Policing Act; I hope to have the Fighting Back post up sooner rather than later. I reached critical overload on my to-do list yesterday and shut everything down. This morning I will organize the scraps of paper from the past week and plan the weekend to be most productive with the goal of waking up on Monday morning with as little anxiety about the unfinished work as possible.

    See all y’all later!

  2. I seem to be up early today. It was 60 at daybreak, 70 now, and heading for 90. I’m fine with that. The humidity is low enough it actually does drop below 70 by 10 pm which means it’s also comfortable (for me) getting up into the 90s. Heck, I only broke out the shorts that few weeks back when the heat index was getting over 100 (and the overnights were in the 70s). LOL. Anyway, we got 22.4 KWHs yesterday and are starting today with the m-t-d at 245 🌞😁🌞

    Worry and prayer by whatever name (and I really don’t like that name, having been around too many fundies “praying on the street corner” in my life) don’t really seem to be helping. But since they can’t hurt I’ll keep doing them. Especially since Aji’s dogs aren’t home yet. As much as they need money – and they do, something like $25K over the next few months with $15K being for a well/irrigation system – they want their dogs back more. Everybody’s hanging on. Some by threads, some by ropes, but everybody’s just hanging on. Something – or a lot of somethings – will have to change to get folks safely to solid ground. So prayers. And supporting the workers as best I can (mostly Dems in Congress right now) even if it’s only boosting their tweets. And more prayers. Channeling Healing/Helping Energy to everybody, to your shaping. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  3. Good Saturday morning, Moosekind! It’s another sunny, beautiful morning in NoVa, but They say it will cloud over this afternoon. For that reason and also because I had six hours’ sleep last night, I need to get my walk and other chores completed as soon as possible.

    Currently the temperature is a rather cool 67 F., with a wind blowing at 9 miles an hour. The high will be 76 F.

    Grandpa and I were thrilled to receive a letter from Miss Pink Cheeks yesterday. I was rather mystified by the beginning of it, which was all about dragons. However, the rest of the letter inquired as to how we’re doing, the possibility of a five-day stay with us, and how we’re passing the time. I must write as soon as I finish my walk because the mail gets picked up early.

    A great deal of this weekend will be spent filing and smiling. I came across some more of Miss PC’s hilarious writings and drawings while I was looking for material for the Shred Truck. I’ll put those in a folder with her name on it. Found all sorts of other things I didn’t know I had—pretty first-class stamps, 8 and 1/2″ x 11″ transparent label sheets that I can use to create address labels, and other stuff.

    Went to the nail salon yesterday. I was the only customer. The guy who did my fingernails wore a mask, washed his hands for 30 seconds before attending to me, and there was a Plexiglass shield between us, with a tunnel-shaped hole cut into the bottom for my hands. My pedicurist wore a mask and over that a plastic visor. The beautiful owner of the salon wore a cloth mask and refrained from hugging me, which she used to do. She also had a box of cloth masks for sale, so I bought one for Dearly and one for myself.

    One thing I did manage yesterday was to think of names for the characters in my Death Café novella. I have a couple more Roman names to think up as well.

    Wishing a good, relaxing Saturday to all at the Pondę

  4. Got in a walk/run this morning. A little over a mile, and ran for 2 chinks each of 1 minute, 45 seconds & 30 seconds. Not no pain, but just a little tightness. Cooling off, watching Ali Velshi (who just replied to my tweet asking for a clip of his great comment on renaming military bases!) and thinking what to do with the day.

    • {{{anotherdemocrat}}} So good you got your walk/run in. Healing Energy & moar {{{HUGS}}}

    • um, that was “chunks” — wish I’d caught that before I hit post

  5. Good morning, 54 and mostly cloudy in Bellingham. Our family watch party was intimate, comfortable, and fun last night and between the tv in the house and computers on the porch everyone had a front row seat. Emma was surprised when we all arrived and now she is officially a graduate. She is enrolled in a dental hygienist program, finishing her AA degree, and working two part time jobs so she is on her way despite the covid implosion in all of our lives.

    I hope today’s rain will be light because our garden is way overgrown. I don’t mind working in light rain, but yesterday was a down pour day. I was hoping to start planting some flowers but I need to do some pruning before I add anymore flowers to the mix.

    Best wishes to all on this damp June morning.

    • {{{princesspat}}} 👍😁👍 for your graduation party. & your family managing to go on with life under the “new normal” – Healing Energy & moar {{{HUGS}}}
