Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: July 5th through July 11th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

  1. Good morning from heat-advisory land. High of 102 expected this afternoon — and that’s supposed to continue all week. Between that & the Covid spike, I’m not going outside unless there’s a fire. When Texas weather people tell you to limit your time outside, it’s really serious.

  2. It’s 73 already and I’ll need to close up the house by 8:30 at the latest. At least it’s clear at the moment. The clouds aren’t supposed to move in until almost dark. Cloudy evening will keep the night temps higher than I like but it will let us generate more electricity than we’ve been getting lately. Yesterday was 13.8 and the m-t-d 160.8 – not on track even for 500 so some good 20+ days are really needed.

    Hold the Good Thought for Aji – $1500 due for 2nd quarter taxes next Wednesday which means anything PayPal’d – sales or gifts – has to be there by Monday to clear. I know she got 1/3 of it last night because the “sale” was made actually in a twitter thread. I hope she got a couple more like it. That butterfly concha belt ($5500) would cover all the immediate-through August expenses except the well/irrigation system but…It’s pretty much Spiritual regalia for a number of traditions but the folks who follow those kinds of traditions seldom have that kind of money. But 5 more sales of the “low end” gemstone things – like earrings plus necklace combinations – would cover the rest of July including the taxes so…Hold the Good Thought. Keep Fineena in mind while you’re at it. Yesterday she was hit with a $36 overdraft fee for a $1.09 shortage. Fortunately I could help with that but that’s how close she’s living. And Amelia of course. The others I’ve not heard from so I’m hoping for the best. Or at least the better.

    There is evil out there. Deliberate evil doing things to rip off and kill anybody not in their Wasp (male) supremacist group – and not worrying about the loss of lower-income members of their supposed own in the process. It’s what forced birth for the masses is about after all. Making sure they have plenty of replacements so they can use up their own “foot soldiers”. The least amount of death and destruction is if we can vote them out – and keep them out long enough to not only clean up the economic mess but deal with the deliberate cruelty towards humans, keep them out long enough to not only change policy (which they immediately change back) but laws (which take longer). So we will work on voting them out.

    OK, it’s taken me long enough to write this that I need to go close up the house. Channeling Healing/Helping Energy to everybody everywhere, to your shaping. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  3. I’m late today – was up early doing all the prep work for my yearly celebration of my initiation to the priesthood in my religion. It essentially becomes your birthday – you decorate your altar – offer fruits and foods to orishas and ancestors and your godchildren and friends come and visit. That will be very limited this year – however some people will be here – with masks – and others via zoom or phone

  4. Good morning, 59 and partly sunny in Bellingham. Both dogs want to be on my lap so it’s a stretch to reach the keyboard. Their family comes home this afternoon. Yesterday was basically a dog day with slow walks and time on the porch. They enjoyed being outdoors and so did I.

    I’m trying to not worry about what crazy/evil tRump will do next and just count down the days until he’s gone. Same with Covid. We’ll be living with the results of both for a long time so I’m trying to find a sustainable level of angst.

    Best wishes to all.

    • {{{princesspat}}} slow walks and porch time are good. And working with growing things, no matter how limited the scope. Healing Energy and moar {{{HUGS}}}
