Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: Aug. 9th through Aug. 15

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

  1. Saturday Meese
65 here in Kingston NY going up to 85. Hoping to get the lawn mowed today – will also be watching a few more Netroots Nation sessions. It is really not the same with zero f2f interaction.

    An excellent PR opinion piece

  2. Good Saturday morning, Moosekind! Never made it here yesterday because I went to a torture session at the nail salon. That’s what a pedicure feels like to me, torture. The technician started digging away at an ingrown toenail, which caused me to flinch, squawk, and tense up all the way through. Then it was time for the hysterically boring fingernails. It’s beyond tedious to sit and sit and sit with no distractions. I never get out of there without damaging the polish on at least one nail, and yesterday I managed to mess up eight of them! I wish they’d use a little toaster oven on my nail polish to dry it but that would lead to cancer of the hand, so…

Anyway, I had another drugged sleep and a mostly decent night. When I took Monty out I saw that it must have rained during the night, judging from the way the air smelled and the traces of wet on the driveway leading to the garage. At the moment it’s 71 F., going up to 77 F., and the forecast is “cloudy with showers.”

We’re going to Trevor’s house (he is our Younger Son) this evening for a birthday barbecue. I think I’ll keep my mask on most of the time and bring some hand sanitizer wipes, even though none of us have “IT.” Don’t know about sitting outside because with that forecast it might be rather wet. A Beagle Sitter is coming to take care of Monty for two hours.

Other than that, not much is happening. I’ll defend Biden/Harris on Twitter whenever possible. I’m pleased with the ticket and LIVID about the looming death of USPS!

Wishing a nice quiet day to all at the Pond.

  3. It’s 70 heading for 92 and a heat index around 100. Next week isn’t supposed to reach 90 and dry enough to not have much in the way of heat index. But we have to get through today first. Sunny at the moment and supposed to be most of the day with some possible afternoon clouds. Hope not as afternoon is the best production time. Yesterday cleared off/stayed mostly clear and generated 19.8 KWHs. So the m-t-d of 247.8 is still on track and gaining a little against the next cloudy day.

Evil Ones still being evil. Which we really need to be prepared for. They are going to cheat and we have to overwhelm the vote to stop them. They are going to contest the elections – quite possibly in every state. We need the lawyers and recounts and whatever it takes to get the elections certified. & at least twitler plans to refuse to leave office which thankfully won’t get him anywhere IF we win and the elections are certified that we won. All the authority he would have disappears at the time the next president should be sworn in, whether he participates or not. (“Should be” is why the vice president is sworn in first. So should anything ghastly happen there’s still a transfer of power when the sitting president’s term is up.) I’m sure the Mayor of DC would be delighted to send her law enforcement to evict him from the White House.

    My friends/family/online family are all doing pretty much the same. Have health issues they can’t tend to and financial issues that are part of the cause. Some of the health issues and financial issues are worse than others, of course. But everybody is hanging on and getting by at least for the time being. Day by day. Sometimes hour by hour or even minute by minute. But getting by. So 🙏🕯 & keep going. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  4. Happy Saturday! Sleepy morning, I’m eating breakfast & watching the news. I may not leave the apartment at all today, the high is supposed to be 107. I’ve set tomorrow’s alarm so I’ll get up & walk, I know it’ll be 80 degrees but that’s better than walking later or not at all. Anyway, most ambitious plans for the day involve laundry & dishes.

  5. Hi, meeses! Quick check in from my phone as I ran out of time for a proper check-in and I need to hit the road for a planned trip to the eastern part of the state this morning. Cooler temperatures and maybe some rain.

    See all y’all later!

  6. Good morning, 59 and mostly sunny in Bellingham. Ron and the family crew are working at the Land Trust site this morning so my quiet house is really quiet with just me and my sleepy thoughts. I think I’m going to do some more pruning and ivy clipping in the garden today, but I’ll see what happens. right now coffee and solitaire are keeping me occupied.

Best wishes to all on this sleepy Saturday morning.
