Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: Aug. 30th through Sept. 5th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool, shown here with 3 pages of comments available.

  2. It’s 72 heading for 83 and even the heat index isn’t supposed to hit 90. We’ll see about that last. Overcast at the moment but not seriously dark. We might get some afternoon rain. Definitely not a good production month start. We got just under 15 KWHs yesterday and the m-t-d is 25 – not on track for day or month but at least the average is now more than I use daily.

    Yesterday was a stressor on several fronts. Physically getting all those packages of wood bricks into the house, well, I ended up with some vertigo and tremors. But after some rest (& the last of the ice cream I found in the back of the freezer) those cleared off. I may count that as today’s as well as yesterday’s exercise though. I didn’t get to Lowes and think I’ll put that off until next Thursday when I have to go out again. Aldi’s run. I don’t buy many different types of items there but what I do they’ve got the best prices in town – match Sam’s Club without having to buy a membership. And Lowe’s is just across the road from Aldi’s.

    Other stressors are my worries about my various offline and online families. Health, financial, emotional losses…just so many issues and so little I can do to help. And nothing as far as health issues and losses are concerned. Except send love/caring. Which I do. More Holding of Good Thoughts. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  3. Good morning, 56 and mostly sunny in Bellingham. Our son stopped by yesterday and made short work of moving things for the electrician. It was easy for him to do because he wasn’t complaining about it like I was! I’ll be glad to have a plug in that part of the kitchen as in addition to a heater I’ll be able to charge various devices and have a lamp on the bookcase under the window.

    This afternoon I’m meeting our grand girls for our annual back to school shopping time together. They don’t need clothes, but do need some encouragement this year and being with them is good for me. Let’s hope my new wheels help me keep and have some fun with them.

    Best wishes to all.

  4. Good lovely Saturday morning, Moosekind! It’s only 60 F. here in Ashburn, delightfully cool with clear skies. We’re about to have breakfast.,

    Busy day today: Younger Son Trevor has invited us to a barbecue at his house this evening. I need to bake some brownies. (This is no trouble, as I use Jiffy brownie mix.)

    After reading an alarming article in the WaPo about how obesity complicates COVID-19, I’ve decided to be more careful about getting walks in and finally starting to lift weights. Losing five pounds would bring me to the ideal weight for an old bat like me.

    Still trying to find out whether anyone I know has visited Seville, particularly in the spring. If I can’t, I’ll have to research it through the intertubes. I’ve decided that a love story will be better for the contest than a cat story, although I still want to write the cat story one day.

    Just had some very good news on another site. There’s a new outfit named DecisionDesk or something like that, with a young man so sharp he’s just been hired by The Economist. He says the election is Biden’s, no matter what the media say. I remember being bitterly disappointed by Sam Wang in 2016 and have feared the same thing happening. But this is not 2016, as certain people keep reminding me.

    WIshing a lovely, calm Saturday to all at the Pond.

  6. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

    It is 55 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 75. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast.

    I am not sure why everyone is so breathlessly reporting that Donald J. Trump is a self-absorbed asshole who has no respect for people or institutions – this is NOT news. Even more ridiculous about the reporting is that it is delusionally saying that this will change people’s minds – his base will not care.

    I will post the Fighting Back tomorrow morning when I have time – this morning got away from me and I have a dozen irons in the fire that I need to tend to.

    See all y’all later!

  7. Yesterday was a great day — I started with barely ¼ of my goal raised, now I’m at 80%! I’m the walker with the most individual donors, and I’m in 3rd place overall. Yay! This morning, I’m watching Velshi & Le Tour. Later I’ll go to the socially-distanced pick up of AIDS Ride t-shirts and other stuff.

  8. It’s 71 heading for upper 80s. That’ll put the heat index into the 90s. I hope not far into the 90s. I’ll need to close up the house soon. Sunny at the moment and long may it last – multiple days at least. LOL. We got just over 12 KWHs yesterday. The m-t-d is 37 which is most certainly not on track but at least covers my daily use average.

    Evil Ones being evil and the rest of us hanging on – and trying to stop them when we can. At the very least never, ever, ever accepting their evil as normal. Offline and online family are also hanging on. Some are hanging on by the knot they’ve tied in the end of their rope. Holding Good Thoughts for “back from the edge” for everyone.

    I need to visit Dee’s diary then get back to my first read through on Diana’s book. Which is a pleasure as well as a “job”. But first coffee. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  9. Good morning, 62 and partly sunny in Bellingham. My shopping trip with Ava and Emma yesterday was so fun. They had previewed some choices to make it easier, and using my new walker/transport chair was easy and comfortable. Made me blink a tear when Emma said….”this feels so normal grammie” We even bought a silly t shirt for Ryan.

    Installing the new plug was a bit more complicated than we thought it would be,resulting in a large hole in the basement ceiling and the need for our son to cut the opening for the plug box in the wood floor in the kitchen. RonK helped me clean up the crumbling plaster dust so my laundry area is functioning, the wiring is in place, and we have an easy fix for the hole in the ceiling so it’s all under control. Just not done. Oh well, old houses require persistence!

    Best wishes to all.
