Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: November 22nd

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool, shown here with 3 pages of comments available.

COUNTING DOWN THE TIME UNTIL DECENCY RETURNS …

  1. Cool morning — 57, and the high is only supposed to get up to 60, and they assure us there will be rain. Sure. There were supposed to be thunderstorms this morning, so I put my walk off to tomorrow. Dry as a bone outside of course. My shoulder is super tight and my doctor won’t write a prescription for a muscle relaxer without me coming in. So I’m trying visualizing it relaxing & that sort of thing.

  2. Saturday Meese. 43 here in Kingston NY going up to 56.

    • I thought about you yesterday. In response to Eric Clapton trending on Twitter for being an Covidiot & a disgusting racist, I posted women blues guitarists, like Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Could play that man under the table.

  3. Good Saturday morning, Meese. Another beautiful, clear day has dawned in Ashburn. Right now the temperature is 47 F., on its way up to 58 F. A walk is in my personal forecast.

    Made carrot bran muffins this morning and they were delicious. I like them because they’re not loaded with sugar—the only sweet ingredients are three tablesp. of brown sugar, a half-teaspoon of cinnamon, the grated orange rind, and the grated carrots.

    Yesterday was delightful because Elder Son and family came to tea. They brought us some much-needed disinfectant wipes, which stank up the bathroom to high heaven, Lysol cleaning spray, and hand sanitizer. DIL has lung issues because she seems to be a long-hauler. She was stricken by an illness at the end of February which, from her description of the symptoms, sounds very like Covid pneumonia. Of course the medical people weren’t as familiar with it then.

    However, little Ethan enjoyed himself drawing at a little makeshift desk and afterwards placing an ornament on the fake tree. He appears to have inherited his mother’s artistic talents. Kids are so funny nowadays: they all obey when asked to face the camera and have special “on camera” smiles when their pictures are taken. I’m nearly overcome with laughter by that. Once, in Paris, Nora was in a bad mood for some reason, but she brightened up and smiled when asked to turn toward the camera.

    Looking forward to a quiet day of walking and writing. Spaghetti tonight with fresh salad and fresh yellow, red, and blue fruit for afters. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

  4. Today is a 27 to 57 day – and sunny at the moment. Yesterday we generated just over 8 KWHs and with the m-t-d at 177 if we get as much sunshine today as we did yesterday we’ll get to 2nd place for November production – and over what my monthly average usage is. Which is nice.

    As Jan said, we made it. The orange menace is definitely leaving the WH and hopefully going to prison. Hanging on until Joe and Kamala get in is a challenge but the goal is in sight and we can do it. How much damage can be undone is another question. How quickly we can shift to saving lives and then the economy is as well. But we’ve got the chance. We’re no longer in what appeared to be a bottomless well. That is indeed something to be thankful for. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  5. Good morning, 45 and partly sunny in Bellingham. My knees aren’t throbbing this morning so there’s hope for today. Yesterday trying to walk was just too painful, so I didn’t. Our anniversary is on Sunday so we’re going to cozy up the patio again, order take out pasta and salads, grill steaks, and go “out” to dinner.

    Best wishes to all.
