Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: January 10th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool, shown here with 3 pages of comments available.

COUNTING DOWN THE TIME UNTIL DECENCY RETURNS …

  1. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

It is 34 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 34. Isolated flurries are in the forecast.

I will be staying hunkered down for the next 4 days – ordering food and groceries, if needed. City of Madison and state law enforcement has told Wisconsin legislators to stay away from the Capitol, that they can’t keep it safe from the expected armed insurrectionists. Lovely.

The inauguration task force had to cancel a rehearsal on Sunday due to “credible threats.” Good lord, Joe, don’t be dumb – we need you and the incoming administration to get out of this mess and you should not do anything that will put the Obamas or the Clintons at risk – it would be a devastating blow to our party and our country. Do a quiet indoor swearing in. As we are finding out, Congressmembers can’t be trusted, law enforcement can’t be trusted, members of the military can’t be trusted, Secret Service can’t be trusted. Until you can bag and take out the garbage, it is not safe. Period. Have a party this summer to celebrate the inauguration, it would not be the first celebration put off in 2020 and 2021.

I really don’t care who tRump pardons, there are enough state investigations going on and the financial fallout will be epic. He and his crime family won’t be punished for the specific crimes we want them to be punished for but the punishment will be real and painful. I am not going to expend any energy worrying about bad guys getting away with crimes – many of them will commit new crimes after their pardons and the response will be swift.

I will be working all weekend on end of year/beginning of year projects as well as a couple of other projects that I foolishly agreed to do and can’t put off.

    See all y’all later!

  2. Good morning. Not quite freezing here, headed to the 60s this afternoon. I should get out & walk. For now, watching the news & eating my almond butter sandwich.

  3. It’s 31 heading for 42 and cloudy although the forecast says the sun should be out some time this afternoon. That would be nice. Yesterday we got snow we weren’t supposed to have and 4.5 KWHs (m-t-d is 84.3) – if the sun comes out this afternoon we may get more electricity. Be nice anyway.

My hands gave out on me yesterday relatively early on and look be going to do the same today. I’m learning to move around in the computer without the mouse but so far nobody’s come up with a way to RT tweets without the mouse. So I’ll do what I can this morning – including at least a nod to what I didn’t do yesterday – then get offline again. I stay out of the OMGHOF stuff anyway but I’m just as happy to not have to scroll through it. (Joe, don’t be a fool. Until you have found and removed the traitors from “security” don’t do outdoor public stuff. & yes, I paid attention when it was going down – $600 + $1400 = $2K. That was the promise no matter that some folks wanted the promise to be $600 + $2K = $2600. He’s keeping the promise he made not the promise you wanted him to make. Obamasux redux.)

    The GFM for JoanMar is up. I need to find the link to that and to anotherdemocrat’s donation page. The chimney inspection and cleaning was $200 but I’d set aside more thinking there was going to be some repair as well. So that money is liberated to go where I’d have sent it in the first place if I hadn’t set it aside for woodstove or chimney repair. Anyway, I’d best get to what I can while I still can. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  4. Good Saturday morning, Meese. It’s partly cloudy in Ashburn and the sun is beginning to appear. At the moment it’s 38 F., on its way up to 45 F. We had some rain last night, which was rather nice.

Domestic chores plus grocery shopping are planned for the day. Boring. Are y’all going to record and watch CNN’s show at 10 p.m. tomorrow evening about Kamala? I’ve asked Dearly to record it. I have looked forward to such shows in the past, only to discover that they’re merely mishmashes of old news clips (preferably unflattering to the subject of the show). We’ll record it but I really don’t expect it to be worth watching.

A little good news to share: last night the Chief Raging Granny here at The Home wrote to say the NRA has filed for bankruptcy. Isn’t that agreeable? They’ve had a chokehold on this country for too long.

Made Apple-Walnut Bran Muffins this morning and they were of a deliciousness impossible to describe. I wish my next-door neighbor hadn’t started a reducing diet—I’m sure she would have enjoyed them.

We FaceTimed with Younger Son last night and were fascinated to learn that 6-year-old Mr. First Grader adores astronomy and constantly begs his father to go to the library and get more books about it. Right now he wants to know about Uranus. Also, it appears that Miss Pink Cheeks will be going to Rachel Carson Middle School in September. It’s out of her assigned school district, BUT as she’s in Advanced Academic Placement, she’ll attend Carson. More students from Carson get into Thomas Jefferson magnet school than any other middle school in the county. Myself, I’m not convinced that STEM is her path in life: she’s good at writing and drawing. She could become a content creator when she grows up.

That’s enough from me this morning. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond. Four more days!

    • NRA declared bankruptcy simply to get out from under the financial burdens related to the State of New York suing them. Sadly, they will be allowed to walk away and re-incorporate in Texas – because our bankruptcy laws suck and coddle bad actors.

  5. Good day, 40 and light clouds in Bellingham. Between naps and solitaire games I’ve drifted through the morning and lost my interest in doing much of anything this afternoon. I tell my self it’s ok to check out occasionally but it still seems like an odd thing to do.

    Best wishes to all.
