Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

It’s 68 heading for low 90s and more or less sunny. The heat index isn’t supposed to get over 100 but it probably will. We shall see whether or not I have to turn on the A/C. I hope not. This 80% of “normal” sunshine we’ve been having all year doesn’t produce enough electricity with my system to cover A/C. Yesterday we generated 16.78 KWHs and the m-t-d is 85.5 – not on track for 500. That 17/day average needed to reach 500 in a month is also what’s needed to cover running the A/C if it’s on regularly.
I don’t mind waking up at 6:17, truly I don’t. As long as I got to sleep before 2:45. Sinusitis last night and nothing that “normally” works did. One more thing global warming is making worse. Although I’m sure the not-environment-related cat fluff isn’t helping. If we didn’t have marauding cats in the neighborhood I’d let these guys be indoor-outdoor instead of indoor only. Let them get rid of some of this fluff outside. But there are.
I wish I had some good news about somebody. But I don’t have any bad news at any rate. At least not that I’ve heard about. & Jill was able to take 6 pups to the shelter yesterday. The way the shelter people reacted, no problem finding forever homes for these little mutts. Now that they’re in town and people don’t have to go out to “the estates” to see them.

Happy Saturday, everyone! I’m eating breakfast & watching the news. Ali Velshi on MSNBC gives a lot of attention to my state’s voting suppression efforts. Today’s agenda: nothing, really. I don’t have to cook for another couple of weeks, I’ll make breakfast & tea tomorrow. My neighborhood got a 2 inch burst of rain yesterday afternoon, which was lovely. I wish it had been in California instead.
Good Saturday morning, Meese. Had another horrible night. I really hate those, as it makes me run on two cylinders all day rather than six. Anyway, it’s 76 F. in Ashburn under mostly cloudy skies, on its way up to 83 F. later. It may or may not rain.
It appears we are not having little Ethan for an overnight visit after all. I was so looking forward to seeing him! Apparently he has acquired Mommy’s cold. Elder Son, bless him, has asked us to his house next Saturday for dinner. Next Friday will be Dearly’s 91st birthday, so Eric will grill steaks. I’m trying to arrange a birthday cake from their neighborhood as it’s a bit dodgy transporting a cake for 30 miles.
Not much to say except that matters are proceeding apace for the Authors Festival. I’m trying to order masks for all the authors (24) as I’m sure we’ll need them—it’s required here if a gathering reaches 50 or more people.
Going to type a list of chores that I need to do, then get washed and brushed. Hope everyone at the Pond will have a good day! Congratulations to your husband, Dee, on his initiation.
