Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: September 19th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Saturday Meese – 49 here in Kingston going up to 75 and sunny.

    Puerto Rico

  2. Good morning. Watching the news and eating breakfast. Velshi had a good (though too short) segment on missing women of color & how violence against them doesn’t get investigated, even when the families bring them evidence. Not sure what I’m doing today — will do a walk/run early tomorrow morning.

  3. 55 heading for 82 and sunny. Didn’t quite get 10 KWHs yesterday. The m-t-d is at 286.4 starting the last Saturday in September. So definitely over 300, maybe 350, iffy on 365 for the month’s total.

    I wish I could rehome Murf. He needs a quiet house with no other animals. But I can’t so I’ll do the best I can. He’s still not eating much but he is eating some of the special diet canned food. But the more canned food he eats, the less kibble. So I don’t know if we’re gaining or losing calories here. The hardest part is keeping his food from the rest of the clowder. He still wants my oatmeal anyway. He’s staring at me at the moment, willing me to finish and give him the rest. (Not that he’d eat that much if I gave him more than the usual TBSP of mostly goo. If he would, I’d do a special batch of it for him.)

    Amelia’s apparently got COVID. Again. She’s double vaxxed, was wearing a mask (cloth – she already knew she needed something better but it’s what she has), and wasn’t even in anybody’s company. She thinks the COVID aerosols were still in the elevator when she did her laundry a couple of days ago. (She could certainly smell strong cigarette smoke – and this is a no-smoking building. Originally thought she was just dealing with allergies from that.) She can’t find a rapid COVID test much less a pharmacy that will deliver it. A very dear friend sent her some juice, ginger ale, and bland foods last night via Instacart – & is going to try help her find a test somewhere that will deliver to her.

    Jill’s so much better off, so much safer, that things like the hot water heater leak (not covered in the warranty) seem minor. While expensive to fix/replace, it actually is minor – where she is has a shower and laundry a 5-minute walk away. She’s got a bunch of things she’s got to deal with before life could even vaguely be considered normal or comfortable, but she’s safe and she can sleep. Such a blessing.

    Other folks hanging in there. So am I. At least I got some decent sleep last night. Need more coffee then off to twitter. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  4. Good morning, 53 and mostly cloudy in Bellingham. I’ve got several boxes of fabric ready to donate so I’ll take a break before digging into the next layers. How did I ever accumulate so much fabric!

    One of my next tasks is to find a new home for the boxes of crocheted granny squares Ron’s mom made. I kept them thinking I would finish the afghans she had planned but I don’t think I ever will so I hope someone else will be interested.

    Best wishes to all.
