Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: October 24th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Saturday Meese. 44 going up to 59 here in Kingston, and raining.
Realized I have to go out and buy candy for trick or treaters. I think I’ll just leave a basket outside the door and let them take what they want.

  2. Good Saturday morning, Meese. We awakened to rain but I think it’s stopped now. It’s still extremely dark, though. Our four-inch deficit has already been reduced to three inches, how ’bout that!

It’s 54 F. in Ashburn, going up to 62 F. later. Yesterday I did so much housework that today I feel like telling it to go jump in the lake. Oh, hot news—after three days without hot water, it’s back on! I can’t wait to take a shower. I also want to write to my friend, a task that I never seem to get to.

Yesterday I wore my black, crushed-velvet Witch cloak with hood as I walked through rows of card-playing ladies on my way to the Deli. “Witch day is it?” I quavered as I made my way. They were gobsmacked! Well, yeterday was “dress up as a fictional character day,” so I chose the Witch of Endor.

Dearly is moving gently around the kitchen. He’s probably about to make coffee. Yay! We are expecting Miss Pink Cheeks to be dropped off tonight. I need to program certain routes into Waze so I won’t get messed up tomorrow.

Our flat smelled heavenly after I baked a loaf of bread. My neighbor down the hall said she’d baked one as well, but she made hers from scratch. Imagine that!

Nothing exciting to add, my friends. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

  3. It’s actually chilly here, 50 degrees. I skipped my walk/run this morning — will either go to the gym or do the normal route this afternoon. Plan for today: watch the news, do some cooking….maybe a nap.

  4. It’s 40 going to 63 and sunny. Which is really nice after the last 3 days of solid clouds with off and on rain (I think we got 3″ total). Yesterday generation was 1.2 KWHs, m-t-d is 220.75 – definitely not getting to 250. Or even 240. But at least we’ve beat the 2.5K system so that part’s good.

Things are being same ol’ same ol’ – for me that’s not bad. Not great of course. I could seriously do without the sinusitis and not having the Raynaud’s wouldn’t hurt my feelings either. But I’m OK. I just can’t help folks as much as I’d like. But really what I’d like is they not need the help in the first place. (& many of them wouldn’t if the Rs hadn’t shut down HillaryCare in ’94. All of their issues are either health or health debt related. Or both.) Just like I’d truly like is climate change to not be an issue. (& it wouldn’t be if we’d used tax law as well as regulations to force the energy companies to transition back in the ’80s instead of subsidizing them in the ever-more expensive extraction of fossil fuels.)

    Not getting to sleep until late plus sun not coming up until after 7 plus warm bed means I’m not getting here as early as I’d like. Part of that’s seasonal. A blessing of retirement that I can stay in bed until the sun comes up. Off to do twitter stuff. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  5. Good morning, 40 and sunny in Bellingham. My desk work took longer than I thought it would yesterday so hopefully my hydrangea fun will happen today. My outdoor time yesterday was spent burning old files. It was a bit messy, but faster than using our old shredder. And so satisfyingly to see the old papers just go up in smoke.

    Best wishes to all.

  6. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

It is 48 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 57. Sunny skies a little later this afternoon. We could not see the Auroras because it was cloudy overnight – we might not have seen them even if it had been clear since we get quite a bit of light pollution here.

I shall avoid the news because I have had my fill of Democrats in Disarray stories. Today I will watch some sporting events on TV, take a walk in the Fall sunshine and make a few notes related to projects I need to do in my early Sunday morning quiet time.

    See all y’all later!
