Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: November 7th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. It’s 44 heading for 50. Definitely overcast at the moment but supposed to clear off by noon. Yesterday was an actual sunny day. We generated 6.85 KWHs and the m-t-d of 65.3 is gaining even if not on track.

    Yesterday I went to the co-op and stocked up on supplements. Everybody was masked. I got an herbal concoction to try – called “Allercalm” – in hopes it can dial back the sinusitis. Don’t know yet. Yes, I got better – not good but better – sleep last night. But let’s see if I do 2 or 3 nights in a row. Yesterday I also tried a “soul cake” recipe (sort of like a sugar cookie with more flour and less butter) so creaming butter and sugar. AND decided that IF it’s the cats it’s not the cats themselves but the fur they’re leaving everywhere that I haven’t been able to clean up so I took the sheet (once white now charcoal gray) I’ve been using for a couch cover outside and used the wire “furminator” brush to get up as much fur as possible from the couch and chair cushions. So by 6 pm my hands were in rebellion. Still are. Liking and “quote tweeting” something should take 4 clicks, 6 if I’m doing it from Dee’s twitter roundups to open & close the tweet tab – and every single one I’ve done thus far has taken at least 10. So if I’m going to do much of anything online this afternoon I will need to mostly not do anything else this morning. I’m just hoping I’ve got enough clicks left in my hands to do my helpfolkslive thread and DM folks who depend them. We shall see.

    Nothing new under the sun. Deplorables gonna deplorable. & my friends gonna protest however they can – and hang on however they can. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

    • bfitz, you’ve prolly already done this, but I find doing hand and finger stretches in warm water helps my hands. When I was going to the pool the arthritis class met just after mine so I learned a few tips from watching. I also got a new mouse for my computer, and it’s very responsive. Hope you have some relief soon.

      • {{{princesspat}}} Thank you. That might help with the issue that makes it hard to use the mouse. Bringing my hands out of the warm water will cause a Raynaud’s flare but I’m no longer sure Raynaud’s is the problem as far as the tremors and “mouse capability” so it’s worth a try. Thank you again. Healing Energy to you & yours. moar {{{HUGS}}}

  2. Good morning, 54, cloudy and very wet outside. We worked on the garage project yesterday, and will do more of the same today. Our house was built in 1910 and the garage originally opened to the alley, but over the years remodels have happened and most of them were poorly done. We can’t fix all that’s wrong but our “good enough” plan will make the interior work better for us and the exterior will be stable again. Neighbors down the alley tore their old garage down and rebuilt with a second story. I wish we could do the same but it’s too expensive. The physical work is tiring but it’s a relief from worrying about things I can’t fix…. garage therapy!

    Best wishes to all.

  3. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

    It is 34 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 39. Mostly cloudy with snow showers expected tonight. Yesterday we had rain, sleet, and snow. Nothing accumulated but it was also very windy and darned cold!

    I was reading the story about Homer Plessy getting a posthumous “pardon” for his conviction in 1892 for entering a White train car while Black. These kind of things make me a itchy. Why should he need to be pardoned for what was only a crime because of government sponsored racism? That should not be a “pardon” but an “exoneration”, in my mind. Yes, he pled guilty and paid a $25 fine but was he really guilty of anything other than asserting his humanness?

    Bannon indicted! Even a conviction won’t make him testify but America needs to see some of these guys imprisoned for their attempt to overthrow the government. He would be a good start.

    See all y’all later!

  4. Saturday Meese. 38 going up to 53 here in Kingston. Looking out the window at the soggy leaves covering the ground in my yard. Wondering if I should just leave them there :)

    • What I used to do about leaves is leave them until they dry out and then run the lawn mower over them and turn them into mulch for the lawn. But I don’t know how many/how deep your leaves are. LOL.

  5. Chilly morning, 40s in town, but it’s going to warm up this week. Got to pick up groceries this morning, then I’m not sure what. For now, I’m watching the news, eating breakfast & drinking my tea.

  6. It’s 30 heading for 52 on a bright sunny day. I opened the back door to take something out and 4 cats made a break for it. And are doing zoomies all over the backyard. I hope they stay in the backyard because there is no way I’m going to “catch” them until they let me. Yesterday we generated 7 KWHs and the 72.4 m-t-d is gaining again. Holding the Good Thought.

    My hands are doing better thus far this morning. Thus far. I got about 5 hours of good sleep divided by 3 hours of sitting up and sometimes dozing. Which isn’t great but it’s certainly better.

    Aji’s eye doctor didn’t have an opening until mid-January, which she took. Gives her time to get the money for it (since the money she’d planned to use for it went to hay and firewood). Mufftootuff emailed that she was doing much better, healing well. Lisa’s recovering from cooking multiple meals worth of food the other night. I haven’t heard from anyone else so hoping for the best. Or at least the hanging on.

    I need to bake muffins this morning. I’m going to do peanut butter-cocoa, partly because I like them and partly because peanut butter is much easier to cream with the sugar so less stress on my hands. Off to twitter to “set up” for the day, then back to the kitchen. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  7. Good Saturday morning, Meese! It’s chilly, overcast, and showery here in Ashburn this morning, with a temperature of 48 F. Dearly says it’s snowing in Western Maryland. The temperature will not rise much.

    I’ve already been out. Went to Trader Joe’s around 9 this morning because Saturdays there are insane. I have vowed not to do ANY laundry today because I have so much writing to do. Also, I have to clean up my Awful because we are having a Zoom call tonight with my brother-in-law in Australia. I hope I can keep from bursting into tears.

    Congratulations to everyone who had enough sleep last night! I did too, without any drugs other than lavender oil and magical sleep cream. Had 7 and 1/2 hours, so feel quite well.

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond. Jan, hope you don’t have to go out today. Bfitz, glad your hands are a bit better. I am thinking about gratitude today. Blessed be.
