Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: May 29th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

It is 70 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 97. Sunny skies are in the forecast.

A Republican Congressman from the Buffalo area who signaled his willingness to support an assault weapon ban dropped his re-election bid after his political party sought to oust him. I hope that Joe Manchin is paying attention – The Party of Guns will not come together in a bipartisan fashion to address the issue of putting weapons of war in the hands of unhappy and/or angry young men. Of course a person who wants to commit mass murder is not mentally well by definition but “unhappy” and “angry” will never be “cured.” The fix is to limit men’s access to guns when they are not thinking clearly. Period.

It is terrifying that Ron DeSantis is promoting Trump 2.0, the authoritarian state that all Republicans crave because they see it as “owning the libs” and promoting white christian nationalism. I don’t think that they have thought it through – unless you are pure, you could easily be the next target.

It is the Saturday of a week that started with a holiday and ended with me realizing that mail is being delayed again. I am going to have to rethink my bill pay strategy if every holiday adds an extra 5 days to mail time. I currently have to do a lot of business by mail so this development is a major bummer.

    See all y’all later!

  2. Good morning. We had a little thunderstorm this morning, I ran out to set a couple of plants out for free water. Cooking this weekend will consist mostly of thawing stuff out; this is why I like batch cooking. Anyway, right now I’m eating breakfast & watching the news. Interesting segment on Velshi about a documentary about The Janes, who helped women get abortion pre-Roe.

  3. It’s 63 heading for 82 and “mostly” sunny. I hope they really mean “mostly” because I can use it. Yesterday we generated 20.3 KWHs and the m-t-d starts today at 47.95 – not on track but gaining. If we do as well today as we did yesterday we’ll be on track and that’s very nice.

basket can’t get treated until Tuesday – so much for early response – but we got him a pulse oximeter yesterday and his stats are good so. . . Hold the Good Thoughts. He’s doing a lot of sleeping which is also good. As of yesterday evening everybody else seems to be hanging on pretty much as they have been. My friend picked up last night’s dinner for us (cheese enchiladas from a local Mexican restaurant) and my son has said he’ll bring us a pizza either tonight or tomorrow. I’ll think of something else for the other days. I’m still testing negative as of yesterday at 11 am when I last tested. I’m trying to be (relatively) consistent as to when I test.

    I’ve been to twitter and set up – having boosted Dee’s tweets above and, being over there, I forgot to come back and check in. LOL. Got a few household things to do, then back at it. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  4. Good Saturday morning, Meese. Our day is getting off to a very slow start. I have to visit the recycled cartridges room in the building next door, then go to the grocery store. We’re getting delightful weather, blue skies and sunshine, with a current temp. of 73 F. heading for a high of 84 F. Low humidity as well!

Feeling fully recovered after yesterday’s mystery illness, and now need to get ready to do two days’ worth of chores in one day. Not looking forward to it at all.

Be of good cheer, Meese. I hear Angry Staffer on Twitter expects to not only hold the House but to add 3 or 4 Dems to the Senate. Apparently the Jan. 6th insurrection was MUCH more serious than we’ve been allowed to know. Hearings begin at 8 p.m. next Thursday and I shall be GLUED to the telly.

Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

    • I hope that the January 6th hearings yield some excellent clips to use in campaign ads against Republicans in the fall. I am a little nervous about the health of John Fetterman – I wonder what the backup plan is if he has to drop out of the Pennsylvania Senate race. I assume that the state Democratic Party will choose someone to take his place in the general election – I would hope that the Fetterman-or-Bust fans would transfer their allegiance to whoever that would be (Conor Lamb?). Disappointed left-of-the-left voters are notorious for ratfking winnable elections with their putrid purity postures.
