Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: December 25th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good showery Saturday morning, Meese. It’s 53 F. and foggy, with occasional rain. Don’t mind at all. I’m just about to put the cinnamon rolls on to bake but I will have only one. The calories are shockingly high. Dearly has seen to the coffee.

    We have been searching everywhere for his pulse oximeter and his beloved letter opener. I can buy another oximeter (where the hail did it go? We had it only yesterday), but the letter opener from Harrods is no longer available.

    Wish we could post pictures here. I took one of the toy beagle I got Dearly for Christmas and many people thought it was a real dog they were looking at! Amusing.

    Well, must get on with my day. Need to buy a bunch of stuff and get my wiggie washed. Going to try the Haircuttery again, as it’s under new management. Happy New Year’s Eve, Meese! Dee, hope you get to feeling better. Princesspat, hope you can sync your sleeping hours. Dearly says the hospital totally messed his up. Jan, hope you get some work done.

    • I’m so glad Dearly is home! Love the nice, routine breakfast making. Enjoy your day.

  2. Good morning, all. Didn’t get my walk in yesterday. Got started making my black eyed pea dish, and suddenly it was 5:30. Maybe today. For now, eating breakfast & watching the news.

  3. It’s 49 heading for 63 and sunny at the moment although the clouds are already moving in from the northwest. I hope they’re moving slowly enough they don’t cover the southern sky until late afternoon. We shall see. My PV system reporting software is “encountering an error” at the moment and I don’t remember exactly how much we generated yesterday but it was enough the m-t-d was at 149 KWHs when the sun went down so we’ll make the 150 target at least.

    I can’t say I’m sad to see 2022 go but I equally can’t say I think 2023 will be any better. It unfortunately has a strong possibility of being worse. But there’s nothing anybody can do to stop time from tromping on and little individuals can do make things in general better going forward. Not that I’m going to stop trying of course. Individuals can do a lot to make things for other individuals better. 2022 had a number of those episodes, for which I give profound thanks, in the mix of death and disaster.

    Twitter’s still there so I’m off to do my daily bit. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  4. Good morning, 45 and raining outside my window today. I slept better last night so maybe today I can stir up some fun. We don’t have plans for tonight but a nice lunch at a waterfront restaurant is a possibility.

    Daylight is very brief here now so I think I’ll leave the tree shinning in the corner for another week. It’s not loosing needles yet so I’ll change the smelly water today and see how long it lasts.

    Thanks to all for another year of friendship and support. As always, my best wishes to all as we close the 2022 calendar and start a new year.
