Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: February 5th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good Friday morning, Moosekind, ’tis fair and lovely in Ashburn this day. Right now it’s sunny and 54 F., going up to possibly 67 F. This will be our last “nice” day. Gods, it’s February, it shouldn’t be like this!

    Have a doctor appt in a few minutes—fortunately, I can walk down the halls. I’m wearing my lightest clothes because they’ll insist on weighing me, and the doctor will gripe at me for being overweight. She’s overweight herself, so no fair! Anyway, we’ll see what transpires.

    We had a great meeting of the Writers’ Group yesterday. There was much discussion. We decided we’ll write about “A glimpse of a different kind of life” for March; poetry—haiku, low-cu, and cu-cuu, or sonnets for April; and “flash fiction” (not to exceed 600 words) or the first 600 words of a short story for May. One of my writers is going to have trouble getting his book past the CIA censorship board, I can already tell.

    The temperatures will drop by 20 degrees over the weekend, so we’re doing our Super Bowl shopping today. Then we can just stay in.

    Wishing a good day with no bad news to all at the Pond!

  2. It’s 36 going to 40 and very cloudy. The lights are on. Yesterday we generated 10.04 KWHs – best day since 9/29/22 – and the m-t-d is 47.56. Certainly not on track but certainly better than the last few days. Or today.

    I got on Spoutify but I can’t spout. I actually gave them my (emergency) cell phone number but they’re currently not recognizing the confirmation code they’re sending out. Sigh. I’m sure they’ll have it fixed soon. Not that I have much to spout. Just a “hi, I’m here” so folks can find me while I’m trying to find them. I did find & follow Dee & anotherdemocrat.

    So. Twitter’s still there and still hasn’t severely limited our tweets so I guess I’d best get over there and do my twitter chores. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  3. Good morning, 47 and mostly cloudy outside my window. Today is Ron’s 81st birthday so we’ll go to lunch and continue to wonder how to cope with being old :) I have flowers to make a birthday bouquet and our sons are cooking and hosting a family dinner tomorrow so it’s a relatively easy day for me and a relaxing day for him. Best wishes to all.

  4. Saturday Meese. Headed out the door in a few minutes – an initiation ceremony to attend. 34 here in Kingston going up to 43.

  5. Good morning. Chilly โ€” my heater is working hard to keep my apartment at 67. Eating breakfast & watching the news. Today: groceries, cooking, and a walk. I kept making a Douglas Adams joke about yesterday being the 42nd day in a row I walked, but no one got it.

    • It looks like a chilly day in Austin, another! Alas, I never read The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, so I wouldn’t have got the joke either.

      Are you still bruised from your fall or have the effects gone away?

      • Still some bruising, but it doesn’t bother me. I got a knee brace for the one that had been hurting before, it seemed to help yesterday. We’ll see how it goes this afternoon.

  6. It’s 29 heading for 52 and sunny. I like sunny. ๐Ÿ˜ Yesterday it wasn’t and we generated 1.44 KWHs, bringing the m-t-d to right at 49. Well, we’ve still got over half the month to go. We shall see what we shall see.

    I still can’t spout on Spoutible. I wish I knew how to contact their support. I’m trying but they keep sending me the same invalid confirmation code. I tried 6 times over the course of yesterday and once already today. But I’ve found 7 folks I was looking for to follow. And have 14 following me. LOL.

    Meanwhile, twitter is still up and I have folks to boost. As best my hands will let me. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  7. Good Saturday morning, Meese! It’s 41 F. and sunny, so it’s nice to look out the window.

    I’m working on a romantic love song blog for tonight. Unfortunately, one of my two top favorites is not available in the version in which I first heard it. Drat! I can only find raucous, off-key versions of it on YouTube. Someone named Yulia sings it, but her tempo is too slow. It’s meant to be sung by first a female chorus, then the male chorus taking over. Oh, well, we should all have such problems right?

    Dearly is having a little nap on the sofa. I’ll have a nap after lunch. We both had awful nights. I’m SO GLAD I don’t have to go anywhere today, except possibly to the gym, and I can walk there either outdoors (4 and a half minutes), or indoors (10 minutes).

    For the past week I have been eating two organic celery stalks and an apple every day for lunch. Yesterday, when the assistant took my blood pressure at the doctor’s office, it was 125/77! It was the lowest I’ve had in YEARS! Either that, or she got it wrong. Anyway, I plan to keep on with the ancient Asian remedy for high blood pressure of two stalks of celery at lunchtime. I take pills, of course, but they aren’t much good.

    Wishing a day to all at the Pond.

  8. Good morning, 43 and mostly cloudy today. I’ve been slow this morning but it’s been nice to just be still for awhile. I’ll be busy enough soon. RonK has gone for a walk now, but he has the greek salad and tzatziki sauce ready for tonight’s dinner. So I need to finish some flowers and then we’ll be ready for family (and puppy) fun. Best wishes to all.
