Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: March 12th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …

    Morning low of 54 degrees in the Desert Southwest with an expected daytime high of 70. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast.

    Have a great day, all y’alls!!

  2. March 12th at 2am people not living in Arizona will need to Spring Ahead. When I wake up on Sunday, I will be in princesspat’s time zone but will not be changing any clocks.

    Also March 12th – Happy Birthday, Diana!!

  3. Good morning. Tea is steeping, making my apartment smell nice. Got in a 1 mile walk yesterday, even with it getting up to 90 degrees.

  4. Sunday Meese. Happy Birthday Lady D! 26 going up to 47 here in Kingston.
    Black Music Sunday:

  5. Happy Sunday, Moosekind! The (frequently inebriated) weather app on my iPhone has drunkenly predicted snow flurries for the next hour. Looked outside: are there any? Nupe. It’s 35 F., cold, and ugly, but it’s not snowing.

    Meanwhile, back at the ranch, we’re 2 and 1/2 inches under for rainfall for the year to date. It’s always nice to have something to gritch about, even if it’s the same old thing.

    Cards and presents have arrived, along with birthday greetings by text and Facebook. I am made up, hair straightened, and completely ready except for putting on better clothes to go to lunch with our English friend. Elder Son will make a special dinner next Sunday—would have done it today except that he had to leave for a business trip.

    Many years ago, although I used to sometimes think, “I’ll be 56 in the year 2000,” somehow I never thought much about being this old. My late friend Pat said, “You slow way down after age 70,” and it’s true I can’t get through the day without a nap, but otherwise I’m busier than I’ve ever been. Yikes, with the writing tasks, the Raging Grannies, the Progressives, and the UUs, not to mention 110 doctor appointments, I never have a minute!

    That’s quite enough about me, me, me. Here’s hoping everyone at the Pond will have a nice day. Oh, BTW, did I mention I’m as cross as two sticks because an hour of sleep was stolen from me in the wee hours of this morning? Lucky Jan, not having to put up with this.

  6. It’s 48 and going to 49 and overcast. Not so dark I need the house lights on, but certainly not sunny. We got 1.5 KWHs yesterday. Already have more than that today. But considering what time it is, I doubt we’ll get a whole lot more. Even with this morning’s generation the m-t-d is only at 86.7 – to be on track for even 300 we’d need to be at 120 by end of day.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DIANA! 🎶💕🎊✨🎉🥂🎁🍨🎂💕🎶

    I had a lovely visit with my friend over mochas this morning. Which is why I’m not online until this afternoon. LOL. I need to get over to twitter and spoutible and DK and get caught up. {{{Meeses}}}

  7. Good morning, 46 and cloudy outside my window today. I have stayed quiet all morning but now am ready to plant a few pansies. My tooth has settled down so I hope I can use my energy, such as it is, in a more productive way. Being mad at the world because of a throbbing tooth is exhausting!

    My sister will be here for a visit starting on Thursday so I do need to tend to a few list items so I can be free to enjoy my time with her and the family. Hope my aging body cooperates :) Best wishes to all.

  8. Monday Meese. 37 going up to 40 here in Kingston with a winter storm warning for this evening
    Sigh

    Puerto Rico

    • Sorry about the snow, Sis! I hadn’t known about the bombing, but I did know the U.S. Navy got up to some nefarious stuff in the 1950-1970s period.

      Hope your husband is feeling better.

  9. Good morning. Cool enough for long sleeves for this morning’s walk. There was astronomy all afternoon yesterday, and a new episode in the evening. Nice day for me.

  10. Good Monday morning, Moosekind! It’s 37 F. here in Ashburn and “dripping.” You know–not raining hard, nor even softly, but just damp and drippy. It happened last night too.

    The weather app on my phone must not have been as drunk as I thought, because while we were eating dessert at the restaurant, we looked through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows and it was SNOWING! Yes, actual large flakes! This happens once in a blue moon in our area, so several people raced to windows to snap photos on their phones. Of course, the snow didn’t stick, but just seeing flakes cheered us up.

    We had a great time with our friend, but Dearly was too tired to go to her house for coffee in front of a nice fire in the fireplace. She and I were disappointed, but it’s amazing that Dearly, afflicted as he is with no fewer than six different “conditions,” could go out at all. He didn’t bring his portable oxygen cylinder because it was too much of a drag. Anyway, by the time we returned home we were as full as slugs, so we just had a nice nap from which we woke in time to ignore the Oscars.

    Will spare you my thoughts on awards shows. Unpleasant doctor appointment this morning, after which I must come home and work on the disability story. I did nothing on it yesterday. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

  11. Good morning, meeses! Monday …

    It is 52 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 72. Sunny skies are in the forecast. We have a couple of great days then a cool down with a chance for rain. We have not quite settled into our consistently perfect days but we are getting closer. The crazy rains from California are altering our climate a bit.

    I woke up an hour later than I usually do – I am still getting used to the night sounds now that the window is left open and it took me a bit longer to fall asleep. I already had queued up text messages from friends and family in CDT (I turn off notifications so that texts don’t disturb my sleep.) They are two hours ahead of me now instead of just one. It is not an issue in the morning but at night I have to make sure that I am aware of how late it might be there if I text. Although I am the only one in my family who thinks that 10pm is the middle of the night! :)

    I got sidetracked reading about my women’s hockey team making the Frozen Four and reading about the NCAA Tournament WBB brackets and now it is already 7am! I need to get organized for my day. I think I will be a bum today and tomorrow and enjoy the nice weather and work on Wednesday when it will likely be raining.

    See all y’all later!

  12. It’s 29 heading for 48 and a bright sunny day. YAY! Yesterday we generated 8.9 KWHs and the m-t-d is just over 93. We’ll at least get over 100 today. And enjoy the sunshine while we’ve got it.

    I hate daylight savings time. Every rationale the Powers That Be keep trotting out for why it’s a good thing is a lie. And why the heck Obama didn’t return us to “normal” DST (April to October) instead of keeping W’s March to November claim to be the environmental president. . . (Probably figured the next R president would change it back and there’d be even more disruption in everybody’s lives as how many weeks we’d have to endure DST would become wholly dependent on which party had the WH.) The only thing DST is really good for is heart attacks and making people groggy enough to be (even more) easily manipulated.

    Obviously I’m “running late” for my online chores & checking in with everybody. And I need to do some baking and probably laundry today. So I’d best get to them. {{{Meeses}}}

  13. Good morning. Weirdly cold for Texas in March (48) but calm weather, so we’re better of than a lot of places. We need that rain that California is getting but not all at once like is happening. Anyway, I’m so glad for my 2 wfh days. I slept badly – lots of weird dreams. We have an online training today, ugh.

  14. It’s 28 going to 55 and sunny again. (YAY!) Yesterday we generated just over 16 KWHs! The last time we went over 16 was 8/8/22. The m-t-d at 109 is no way on track, but it certainly gained a little. Holding the Good Thought it gains some more today.

    The news is depressing enough I’m trying not to think about it since there’s nothing I can do about it. Jill’s trying to find out what happened to Ronald’s service dog when he died. Nobody seems to know and of course she’s concerned. Shadow was a “family dog” Ronald took with him when he abandoned her on the mesa and was trained as part of one of the cancer services while he was in CA. Nothing seems to be new with anybody else.

    There must be an accident on Weddington – there are a whole lot of cars coming down my street right now. They’ve got to be detouring around something. I glad I don’t have to go out. Off to twitter & spoutible. {{{Meeses}}}

  15. Good morning, 39 and cloudy outside my window today. I was at the lab yesterday, and to my relief my blood thinner meds are at the level they should be. Better yet, I was finally able to talk to a nurse and have a plan for better communication with my doc when the next round of dental care happens. Today is a housekeeping day with lots of laundry. Sue will be here so she’ll do the deep cleaning and I’ll keep clearing clutter so she can! Best wishes to all.

  16. Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …

    It is 61 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 73. Mainly sunny skies are in the forecast.

    I spent the morning prepping for Microsoft Patch Tuesday – the 2nd Tuesday of each month when Microsoft pushes new updates to their Windows operating systems. They are more aggressively pushing Windows 11 so I needed to warn clients who are not on managed updates to be aware of that. Windows 11 can update without them knowing and if they don’t have current drivers they will lose connectivity. In any event, now I am late and my morning walk beckons.

    See all y’all later!

  17. Wednesday Meese. Snow here in Kingston has stopped here – right now it is 40 degrees, glad that most people in my area have their power back.

    Daily Kos is still down/not functioning for the 2nd day.

    Puerto Rico

  18. chillier than normal but nothing like is coming — storms tomorrow and in the 30s Friday morning. Planning on walking at lunch, but for now I’m eating breakfast and watching astronomy. This episode is one they just showed on Sunday…..but I’ll still watch it.

  19. Good Wednesday morning, Moosekind! It’s 33 F., sunny and cloudless on this Ides of March day. “Beware the Ides of March, Donald John!” Yesterday was so “gustery” that one gust was 50 mph an hour! Today will be blusty and gusty as well. I hate it.

    Feeling mildly happy this morning because I received my Social. I wonder how long I will continue to receive my Social. If the Rethugs stop it, there will be riots and bloodshed in the streets. Who do they think they are?

    Ate a bowl of Cream of Wheat for breakfast for the first and LAST time in my life! Ugh! I could taste the salt in it! I wonder whether anyone I know likes it: I could mail the five remaining unopened packets to them. Even white bread toast would be better than that.

    I have to buy all this stuff to eat post-surgery. Am not supposed to agitate that part of the body. Gods, getting old is no picnique!

    Will not complain. Today I hope to get my income taxes done. Would you believe a nurse just called about an expensive medication for a different part of the body? It seems I have to go on line to look for a coupon.

    Time’s getting on so I’d better start my day. Yesterday I was frantically finishing the Management Response to the Disability Article—putting it into a tactful form—so I never was able to get here. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

    • We will indeed riot in the streets if the dicking around by the Republicans in the House of Representatives cuts our Social Security checks!!

  20. It’s 41 heading for 61 and sunny at the moment. Widget says clouds will move in midmorning. I hope the widget is wrong. Yesterday we generated 15.48 and the m-t-d reached 124.78 – still not on track for even 300 but gaining.

    I just got back from the credit union. They’ve removed the sign about having to remove masks – probably because I’m the only one wearing one – so I didn’t. And the teller didn’t ask me to so that was good. I’m old enough to remember when we not only got paper checks, but we could cash them at the grocery store instead of having to go to a bank. I worked in a grocery store back then. LOL.

    Anyway, I haven’t checked on anybody yet – except DK which is back up. At least for the moment. But of course Black Kos isn’t in my stream so Dee’s twitter roundup isn’t either. I do have a DM from JoanMar that I read immediately because she so seldom reaches out. She’s got a GFM to purchase a car or 2 for her relatives in Jamaica so they can become self supporting. She can’t afford to send them money any longer and feels dreadfully guilty about it. So the cars – the family would be able to start a taxi service and not need donations to keep going. I’ll be boosting that on twitter in a little bit. Speaking of twitter, I’d best get over there. & to spoutible. Holding the Good Thoughts. {{{Meeses}}}
