Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: March 26th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …

    Morning low of 45 degrees in the Desert Southwest with an expected daytime high of 61. Sunny skies are in the forecast.

    Have a great day, all y’alls!!

  2. Sunday Meese. 37 going up to 58 here in Kingston NY.

    when we have water. Will a tanker truck pass through neighborhoods without water? Why not more information?

    • Historical day yesterday in the NCAA Women’s Basketball tournament! For only the third time in history, the Elite 8 will not include UConn or Tennessee. I am enjoying it – lots of interesting new players and new teams to watch. The Virginia Tech team has a lot of talent and were fun to watch. I still think that South Carolina is unbeatable but it will be a lively Final Four regardless.

    • Good Goddess! Hateful MAGAs buying up land in PR? May the crusty curse of Oliver Cromwell descend upon their poxy penises.

      Hope water is going to be delivered to those who need it.

  3. Good morning. Watching the news — half on mute because there’s so much coverage of tfg. I’ve got my tea steeping — makes my apartment smell so good. Perfect, gorgeous weather yesterday and expected today. Mid 80s with just a couple of fluffy clouds. Definitely going for a walk outside this afternoon.

  4. Good beautiful Sunday morning, Moosekind! We have 52 F. at 10:49 a.m., going up to 69 F. Blue skies—what a nice change after the last two days—and a certain amount of wind. This will keep my exercise indoors today, because no way am I getting out there in it.

    We did get an inch of rain, for which thank Yemaya! We’re now only 3 inches under for the year. In other news, one of the writers in my group, wishing to give me a birthday present, ordered a t-shirt and a coffee mug with our group name and logo on them. How I shall enjoy swaggering about the campus wearing my new shirt! That is (gloomily) if I can get into it. “Large” evidently meant “Not rilly” to the company that made it.

    I slept through the whole night without coughing! Is not that the greatest? I’m about to have another cup of tea and then get going on the taxes. Dearly was so late making the coffee this morning that we didn’t eat breakfast until rather late. Yrs truly refuses to start cooking unless said coffee is perfuming the air and dripping into the pot. Making the coffee is a man’s job in this household, as I was forced to give birth to many, many pots of coffee by other men, in other lifetimes.

    It would be lovely to finish the taxes today and it will be even lovelier when I regain the use of my voice. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

  5. It’s 56 heading for 52 and sunny at the moment. Clouds and maybe rain supposed to move in later. I hope a lot later. We generated 16.9 KWHs yesterday and the m-t-d is 242.7 – a slight gain. Hopefully we won’t lose ground today.

    It’s my older son’s 52nd birthday. He’s at the gurdwara being made much of by his “heart family” but I’ll see him later this afternoon. I was remembering 52 years ago as I did my exercises and Sunday chores. My ex & I are the only ones still alive who visited the hospital that day. Memories.

    I’ve done my housecleaning including vacuuming for the week. My hands and back are not happy with me, as usual, but the Ibuprofen is kicking in. Time to get over to twitter & spoutible and DK. Holding the Good Thoughts. {{{Meeses}}}

  6. Good morning, 39 and mostly cloudy outside my window today. I was outdoors yesterday so the ivy clipping project is finished for now. It’s starting to grow now so the clear cut look will soon be filled in with green leaves, and then we’ll need to clip it again! Today I hope to work on the salal growing by the front porch. The last cold spell burned the new growth that was starting so it needs to ne removed. But buds are forming on the stems so it’s easier to see where to clip now. My resolve is to just do enough to see some progress and to stop when I get to tired. My gardening ways need to adapt to my arthritic reality :)
    Best wishes to all.

  7. Good morning. Didn’t feel up to doing my walk/run, but I did it anyway. 1.14 mi, 9 running segments. Isn’t this supposed to get easier? At some point? Anyway, today’s is done. I’m eating breakfast, drinking tea, wishing I brought caffeine pills.

  8. Monday Meese. 26 here in Kingston going up to 41 with snow rain mix in the forecast.

    Puerto Rico

    Guerilla art that appeared today in Vieques 2023. The settlers are upset, because it is not written in English…

    San Juan, Mar 26 (EFE).- Hundreds of people from various Caribbean countries gathered in Puerto Rico on Sunday to march in memory of migrants who died at sea trying to reach the country.
    The procession was held “to create awareness of the tragedy that our brothers and sisters in Haiti and the Dominican Republic are experiencing by having to leave their countries,” archbishop of the Archdiocese of San Juan, Roberto Octavio González, told EFE.

  9. Good morning, meeses! Monday …

    It is 43 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 66. Sunny skies are in the forecast. We will see 70s tomorrow and Wednesday then it will cool down again for a bit – maybe 80s next week. I don’t mind the ups and downs – soon enough we will have unrelenting 90 degree weather, I am just glad we have not had to turn the heat back on.

    It is going to be a challenge to read any news with the 24×7 coverage of tRump. His ugly orange face is everywhere as he doubles down on every terrible thing he did as president. I am going to start doing quicker scans of the headlines to protect my delicate eyez!!

    The end of the first quarter is Friday and I have several projects that I should deliver before the 31st so I best get to it.

    See all y’all later!

  10. It’s 37 heading for 62 and mostly sunny today. Yesterday we got 16.5 KWHs – the clouds did wait until late afternoon to move in and we didn’t get any rain at all. The m-t-d is 258.6 which isn’t on track for 300 but we will be by the end of today if it stays sunny. I don’t know if we can beat last year’s 338 but hoping we can at least beat 2020’s 325.

    Yesterday I had a nice visit with my older son and even said a passing “hi” to my younger son who called to wish his brother a Happy Birthday while he was here. It was a good day for him. He had a lovely time celebrating in the Sihk tradition at the gurdwara in the morning, rode his motorcycle for a bit, visited with me, got calls from his dad and brother, and finished the day with a selection of pie slices in lieu of birthday cake with his sons.

    I heard from kossack Melissa/mufftotuff yesterday. She’s not doing great but she’s managing and there’s a change in living conditions happening soon that should be very good for her. I haven’t heard from anybody else and haven’t checked for them on twitter yet. I’m about to do just that – also Spoutible, not that I see many kossacks/former kossacks or Meese over there at this point. But I do see friends I made on twitter there. And it’s another place to boost Aji’s patreon and Wings’s silverwork. And Dee’s diaries when I remember. There isn’t a Spoutible choice on DK diaries. Yet.

    Anyway, Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  11. Good Monday moaning, Moosekind! It’s 56 F. and cloudy in Ashburn, with a drizzle set to happen at 2. Rubbish.

    Spent Sunday wrestling with the devil: in other words, TurboTax. (Gloomily) It certainly didn’t take me half an hour, it was more like three and a half hours of screams and imprecations. They get really worked up over such things as my proceeds from the oil well in Texas ($5 in 2022) and Dearly’s RMD.

    The good news: 15 minutes after I filed electronically, the Feds accepted it!

    At this writing the Commonwealth of Virginia has also accepted it. We are not, of course, going to receive a refund of the size that TT is predicting, but we’ll take whatever they see fit to give us. Every little bit helps.

    Had a rotten night. as did Dearly, so he’s sleeping in the bedroom at the moment. On the agenda for today: tidying up my office, which certainly needs it, and getting my head together. I do wish I could speak.

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

    • {{{Diana}}} Hoping your voice comes back soon & Healing Energy to you both. moar {{{HUGS}}}

  12. Good morning, 44 and sunny in my garden today. I made good progress pruning salal yesterday, but I stayed at it to long. A hot bath and ice packs helped, but I did need some tylenol, and that has made my warfarin levels too high. Such a juggle! I just got back from the lab and so I have a management plan but I’m complaining regardless.

    It’s calm and quiet in my neighborhood today, but reading about the Waco rally and the horrible war in Ukraine makes be very aware of the dangers in the world at large. I’m going to tend to my garden and to be grateful I still can. Best wishes to all.

  13. RIP. For those of you who followed her on Twitter

  14. Tuesday Meese. 36 and cloudy here in Kingston, going up to 53.
    This evening:

    Puerto Rico

    • Good Tuesday morning, Meese. There’s a pale blue sky and some rather tentative-looking sunlight outside. Right now it’s 46 F. in Ashburn, on its way up to 56 F.

      This morning I woke up with a little more energy. I have some delicious sweet blueberries in the fridge, so proceeded to make blueberry bran muffins I gave two each to three neighbors who live alone, and put a few away for the future after Dearly and I had two each. I still can’t speak. Filled out a hospital survey on the phone and gave them a bad review. Losing my voice shouldn’t have happened.

      Yesterday, feeling too weak to get out of the green recliner, I became reluctantly hypnotized by the worst movie I have ever seen. It was even worse than “Attack of the Killer Tomatoes,” and that’s saying a great deal! It starred the creepy Adam Sandler, whom I absolutely cannot stand, and Jennifer Aniston, who seems to make a career specialty of starring against ugly guys. Anyway, the movie was so stupid it left me feeling there’s little hope for this planet if it harbors people that moronic.

      One of the few nice things to happen for our family in March is that Younger Son has been hired by Fairfax County as a part-time tutor for English, geography, and history. He has an A.A. in Education, with emphasis on biology. It’s $36 an hour. I wonder if anotherdemocrat could look into that in Texas? She could definitely teach geography, English, and history, with her background! Younger Son already has a full-time job but had to take such a salary cut (it’s a government job) that he needs part-time work to counter inflation.

      I hope I have the energy to do the stuff I didn’t get done yesterday. Today is Darling Niece’s birthday, so I sent her greetings. Great-Nephew B chose to attend a Bruce Springsteen concert instead of going on a trip for spring break, so they did that last night.

      Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

  15. Good morning. I’m putting off my walk till afternoon today, needed to sleep in. So much terrible news — the Nashville shooting, terrible bills in the legislature about transgender health care and voting rights, and now a fire at a migrant center in Juarez. I’m just going to tune out and watch astronomy and work.

  16. It’s 41 heading for 55 and sunny. Yesterday we generated 16.3 KWHs and the m-t-d at 275 is on track for 300 and a bit with 4 production days left in March. Perhaps I’ll get used to the cloudiness that comes with global warming in NW AR – that depresses my mood as well as the electrical production – but I doubt it.

    Far as I know, everybody’s trucking on. Aji’s health is getting worse but bless the person who bought her the continuous O2 concentrator. Hopefully once she gets it and starts using it she’ll be able to get more sleep and that should help at least a little. Amelia/earicicle is handing stressors better than she has in years – the fact she’s handling them at all was already progress, but now she’s handling them and recovering from them in days rather than weeks. I know Jill’s doing better because she’s not contacting me even weekly now – during the really bad time she was calling multiple times a day. So. Progress.

    I’m zoning a bit and my hands are not happy with me but I’m here. & am about to head over to twitter & spoutible. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  17. Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …

    It is 62 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 77. Sunny skies are in the forecast.

    I checked people’s posts this morning but forgot to check-in – I blame old age!! I am posting this from my phone so it will be just a quick hi and bye. My plan for the day is to sit by the pool and soak up some sun before it turns cool again. There is a planetary conjunction occurring in the western sky tonight just after sunset and I will be watching for it. Five planets, I think.

    See all y’all later!!

  18. Good morning, 52 and sunny outside my window today. I’m really tired this morning, but I’m meeting Emma for lunch at the bookstore café so my day will be fun regardless. It’s still surprising to me to be with my 20 yr old granddaughter…..how can that be! So nice to have so many years of memories sharing our lunch at the book store cafe. Best wishes to all.

  19. Wednesday Meese. 29 going up to 57 here in Kingston. Am really pissed at the absence of coverage in certain places of MVP Harris’ Africa trip. We did cover it in Black Kos yesterday

    I’m going to try to write one again today focusing on her visit and speech at the slave port.

    The facebook live conversation went well.

    • I’m glad it went well. Not that it will shut up the “let’s get 2 more Dem Senators” pro-statehood crowd – but a cult is a cult is a cult and facts are never welcome.
