Heat wave continues in Puerto Rico and USVI
Good morning. Got my tea steeping, watching the news. We had quite the thunderstorm last night — I went outside to look, and the whole sky lit up with lightning, quite impressive. More rain today, which we need, though flooding isn’t the best thing. Our regular host for the Saturday night music diary at the orange place announced her retirement last night, and we’re going to try to keep it going with volunteers, looks like I’ll be hosting once every 5 weeks or so.
Was sad to see her retirement, anotherdemocrat, but you’ll do an excellent job.

It’s 71 heading 87 and sunny at the moment. Yesterday the rain did come, almost an inch of it over the day/evening, which we needed but it meant we only generated right at 8 KWHs for the day. The m-t-d at 45 is definitely not on track and it will take several very good days to catch up. IF we don’t get any more days under 17.
It got cool enough yesterday afternoon I had a ‘winter’ dinner – steamed veggies instead of cold vegetable salad of some kind, baked blueberry crisp and hot cocoa for dessert. The current 10-day forecast suggests I won’t be doing that again soon. That’s fine. I’m perfectly happy with cold vegetable salads, fresh fruit, and pudding or ice cream instead. Summer meals for summer weather.
All my Sunday chores are done, back and hands protesting of course, so I’d best get to my online boosting chores. And listening to the music in Dee’s diary. 🎶😁🎶 Holding the Good Thoughts for Everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Well, it’s still (barely) Sunday morning, Moosekind! Greetings. Here in Ashburn the sky looks very much as if it would like to rain, but has forgotten how. Yesterday’s mythical rain turned out to be exactly that—a myth. Our high will be 76 F., or so they say. Despite the fact we’re not supposed to have any rain today, or indeed, any rain the whole upcoming week, the lowering skies do not inspire me to put the porch furniture out.
Went for a walk this morning, rather short. Two turtles lounging on a rock at Fisherman’s Pond slid into the water as soon as I passed, even though my footsteps were noiseless. At Magnolia Pond I saw Mr. and Mrs. Mallard resting in the reeds with a couple of teenage mallards in tow.
We are lucky enough to have been invited to Elder Son’s house for a barbecue today. I thought about making a practice run of the lavender shortbread cookies I intend to feed my writers on Thursday, but decided against it. I need to finish the walkers’ article and a whole bunch of other things.
Have LOTS of laundry to fold, so I’d better get to it! Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.
Good afternoon, 63 and sunny outside my window today. I had a moment of true friendship as well as garden therapy at the garden shop yesterday. I try not to complain, but I’ve known Wally for over 30 years and my frustration re the damn deer and my lack of a creative focus spilled out and he listened, then gently guided me to some relatively deer safe choices as well as a planting scheme using colors I rarely use but will add color to all the green. I’m very grateful, and now I get to plant some flowers, yay! Best wishes to all.
Glad to hear this, princesspat! My British friend has given up trying to have a garden because of the deer.

I never heard of her until I was grown up! Just shows you what the school system in Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma is like. Never heard of Paul Robeson either.

{{{Dee}}} I saw those yesterday – and in reading them remembered you telling me about her and that visit some years ago. What a great experience. But then, your life seems to be full of great experiences (along with some very scary adventures.)
She really had a major impact on me. It’s amazing watching her – at 22 years of age handling this group of American journalists
She really was good at that. Not that the white protestant MSM paid attention to what she said, as was obvious from the fact they kept asking her the same question rephrased. But I’m reasonably sure she made an impression on the viewers.

Good morning. Raining really hard, I did my 30 minutes walking in the garage where I park — was raining too hard to even just dash across the street to the bigger one. Got my 30 minutes in. Getting ready for an in-office day. I brought chocolate, have a feeling I may need it.
Please send some of that rain our way, another, we’re in drought up here. It’s none of my biz-miz, but I’m curious as to why you didn’t pick Monday or Friday as one of your “work at home” days.
I picked the ones that are best for the office. Friday especially, it’s basically a skeleton crew day so I really make an effort.
It’s 60 heading for 88 and sunny at the moment. Yesterday we generated 17.9 KWHs. The m-t-d at 62 is not on track for even what we generated last month. sigh. Early days yet but not a good start to the month.
I’ve been awake since 3 and up since 6 – too stubborn to give up and get out of bed until there was daylight showing. I’m about to do a Walmart run. Yes, I hate Walmart and have been boycotting them for years. But they’re the only store in town that carries the HVAC filters that fit my vents. I’ll check a few other items while I’m in there. Good Monday morning, Moosekind! It’s 59 F. here in Ashburn and bone-dry as usual. However, there is less haze from the Nova Scotia wildfires this morning, so we have a nice blue sky, a little breeze, and sunlight. The high today will be (peers at widget) 79 F. Not bad, for June.
Yesterday we were invited to Elder Son’s house for a barbecue dinner. It was so tasty that I disregarded my newly acquired vegetarianism and partook of both the Texas-style and South Carolina-style spareribs. DIL had made potato salad according to Ina Garten’s recipe, and it was so good I forgot I don’t like potato salad.
Elder Son and DIL’s backyard is small, but so beautifully landscaped that to look upon it is bliss. We had dinner on the deck as there were no insects to annoy us. There were 7 of us, including Ethan and DIL’s parents. Hudson the chocolate Labrador also joined us for dinner. Ethan happened to look across at his friend Thomas’s deck, where Thomas and his parents were having dinner on their deck with their black Labrador.
We celebrated Elder Son’s new job, which he will begin on Juneteenth—very proud of him, considering how difficult it is for anyone over 50 to (1) get another job, and (2) get hired at better pay. We also celebrated the fact that Ethan, our sports-mad (8 years old next month) grandson has been picked for his school’s travel soccer team! Indeed, he was wearing a jersey that said “9” on the front and “Kane” on the back. Harry Kane is my favorite football player too.
Also, it appears that Ethan is unnaturally gifted at lacrosse. This is the first year he’s played it, but already the parents of the other kids scream, “There’s the E-man, go for it, E-man, you got it!” I wish I could attribute his skill to a remote Cherokee ancestor in the family but alas, no such luck. E. has stated that he wants to attend the University of Virginia and play on its lacrosse team after high school.
So it was a lovely evening and we had a great time. Today is an “empty square on the calendar” day, so I get to stay home (well, except for getting some exercise).
Perhaps I’ll put the porch to rights later on. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

Good morning, 60 and sunny outside my window today. I have a lab appointment this morning, and then the desk and laundry need some attention. I was outdoors yesterday afternoon so all the plants Wally helped me select are planted and it’s so nice to see some flowers and color mixed in with the astilibe and ferns. Best wishes to all.

The heat condition in Puerto Rico is frightening – especially given the power outages

Good morning. Getting ready for wfh day. Will get in my walk later. So much going on in the world.
It’s 67 heading for 86 and sunny at the moment. Widget says clouds this afternoon. I’m hoping a lot later than it’s currently showing both for electricity and because I’m doing laundry today. Yesterday we generated 18.6 KWHs, the highest single day so far this month. Which isn’t great for June. The m-t-d at 80.9 is certainly not on track.
I got my HVAC filters and some chair pads to replace the ones the cats have shredded at Walmart yesterday. I also got a pair of cheap at-least-it’s-better-than-going-barefoot shoes as the soles of the at-least-10-year-old Ladies Keds I was wearing gave out as I was in the store. My other shoes aren’t in much better shape but hopefully will hold out until next month. I have more “going out” scheduled for this month than I’m happy about already. LOL.

Good Tuesday morning, Meese!
It is so blissful to be sitting here on a fairly decent morning (68 F. in Ashburn under hazy skies) and drinking coffee. Went out at 8:15 with the walking club. I was only out for half an hour, the others stay out for 45 minutes. I quite like it.
Going to the Pride Brunch at 11 today! I have a rainbow flag and lots of rainbow brooches. I may wear one brooch and give the others away to people who need them. I’m so happy that the Inclusion and Diversity Committee is doing this. There’s a film on Saturday and a lecture some time this week, I think.
Do y’all know what today is? It’s the 79th anniversary of D-Day! “That great and awful morning,” when the sky over the English Channel was filled with planes and the Channel itself was filled with seacraft. Sigh. I never miss a chance to vote because of the memory of all those men, the British, the Americans, and the Canadians converging on four beaches under German fire.
Dearly is having a nap on the sofa since he had his usual bad night. I must hasten to make him a cheese-and-tomato sandwich before I leave here in (checks watch), gad, 45 minutes!

Good morning, 54 and sunny outside my window today. No need to write a new list because I’m still working on yesterday’s. Oh well, the important things do get done and rest either fade away or surface again at a later time.
