TGIF….ugh!

Well, yesterday wasn’t a good day to say the least. The Republicans showed us once again that they are a basket full of deplorables by passing the worst bill in our lifetime and maybe all time. Is what they did despicable, yes, no doubt and the way they did it was just as bad. Should we be worried about it? Not really as it will never become law in it’s current configuration. Even now the Senate Republicans, I’m assuming as I highly doubt any Democrats will cross party lines on this, are saying they will write their own bill. With knowing how they have operated the last 8 years they more than likely haven’t even started on anything yet. It’s always pass the buck with them, never do any real work if they can get away with it, so they have waited to see the what the foolish R’s in the House would do. That’s a losing endeavor if there ever was one seeing as how they were relying on the moron, Ryan, to do something he’s ill equipped to do. My theory for what it matters is that it passed the House because a lot of the “yes” votes was for no other reason to keep on Trump’s good side and to just get it out of the House so they wouldn’t look any more stupid then they already do plus they are tired of dealing with it.

So what do we have to look forward to…The Senate R’s will craft something entirely different, or at least we can hope. It won’t be much better for anyone but that’s not the point. To get the vote in the House they had to appease the “Freedom Caucus”, read super deplorables. So whatever the Senate comes up with will then have to go back to the House for a vote and will never pass. I’m looking at this as the never ending story.

What I find more worrisome is that this clusterfuck the Repukes are carrying on with will take eyes off the prize, Trump/Russia and that the ACA will suffer more from Dump and his deplorables lack of actually trying to help the ACA do what it was intended for.

  1. Hi, Batch, thanks for the rousing thread! Yeah, feeling disgusted and weary this morning.

    However (cheering up a bit), as you say, the Senate will rewrite the bill and send it back to the House, where it will never pass. Question: while all this tarradiddle is going on, is the ACA still the law of the land? Are people still covered?

    Guess I need to call The Woman Comstock’s office today and thank her for voting “no” on that bill yesterday. She knows she’s in a swing district and could lose her seat. In fact, many people, including me, are hoping she’ll do just that in 2018.

    We Virginia Dems are going to have a busy autumn. We’ve got to give it everything we’ve got with voter registration and getting the Democratic vote out.

    Time for breakfast. See you later!

  2. A welcome sight….If anyone can get us to unite and out of this mess or at least to get people thinking in the right direction it’s Hillary…

  3. {{{Batch}}} – Hope you are right about the “never ending story” part. With all the power in the R hands all we can do is call, fax, meet, and protest – but when we do this we give “cover” to various factions of Rs who then fight among themselves. Basically the “divide and conquer” strategy they’ve used on us for the last 40+ years works just as well (or better) on them.

    I don’t have time or energy to waste hating anybody, not even the self-righteous, sanctimonious bigots who got us into this mess. But i will do whatever I can to isolate them and get them out of the way so we can persist, resist, block, push back – and take back Congress. {{{Moose Village}}}

    • {{{{fitz}}} Trying to get the deplorables to agree on anything is next too impossible so them coming to any agreement on not only the ACA but anything is next to impossible. I believe in the end some Repuke will either have to bring up fixing the ACA so they can put their name on it or like I said it will be never ending. Noing they don’t care whatever they attempt is going to piss off enough people that taking back Congress in 18 should be attainable. moar{{{{{Hugs}}}}

      • I have more confidence that we’ll take back Congress than I do that I’ll manage to find help for the folks on my community needs list. DK right now is HOF diaries – my fundraiser diary for Fineena fell off the sidebar in less than an hour – she needs either $3K or $2K and some physical help from local folks to move from the house the landlord just sold (fortunately she found and has rented another). In that less than an hour there were 2 donations – one from me – that total less than what just moving the utilities will cost. All the folks on my list are having situations like that. And the few really dependable folks who try to help can’t help everybody. Even folks with good jobs don’t have that kind of money. But that means I’m depressed and the folks on my list are down-right panicking. sigh. Moar {{{HUGS}}} to you, too.

  4. Ugh, indeed, Batch! I had to stay off social media last night (mostly, I didn’t 100% succeed), because I was so enraged. Me in Hulk mode is not a good look (there’s a reason I told Momentary Grace that my avatar should reflect my mild-mannered online persona masking a volcanic temper). Instead, I contacted a guy in Scotland who self-published a four-volume history of my mother’s paternal line; the author is almost certainly a cousin of some sort. My grandmother always told us that we were Scots-Irish on my grandfather’s side, but at the time, I didn’t even know what that meant, nor was I curious enough to find out. I’m now looking at a map of Scotland and realizing how many times I was within a few kilometers of the ancestral hometown, without even knowing it. I guess a return to Scotland gets added to my bucket list, although winning a lottery may be necessary to fulfill that item.

    I’m heading over to Squirrel to lurk for a bit; ccotenj hasn’t been on Twitter in awhile, so I want to make sure he’s ok. I’m assuming our co-habitors would say something if he wasn’t, but I miss his snarky tones.

    • hi Sher…cco is ornery as ever…I think the reason he hasn’t been on twitter much lately is because he moved SOB within WordPress…Made reaction times better. I’ll explain it in ccotenj speak…blah blah blah…lol…

      • I noticed it isn’t lurk-able anymore. :( But if it works better, that makes sense. I could just join up, but I have only so many hours in my work day to give (I’m sure my boss would be happier if that was zero hours during the work day, but that’s what he gets for leaving me here by myself most days). And I’m really trying to restrict myself to Twitter-only at night; my original plan was that way I wouldn’t stay up too late at night. That plan isn’t working out so well…

        • You could just join us. Log in and still just lurk. Even bfitz tries to stop by and say hi. We’d love to have you there (and I think I speak for everyone).

        • You could at least join sweetie and then you’d be able to lurk to your hearts content…

        • Chris said he sent you an email tonight…If you don’t see it he said check your spam folder.

      • I have been waiting forever for him to send me a password link. Guess I’ll try again, sigh..

  5. Good morning, fellow Pond Dwellers! It is indeed Friday and Cinco de Mayo! A double the fun celebration. Beautiful morning in Sac with a temperature of 57 and projected high of 79. That’s pretty close to perfect for me.

    Yesterday was a bit of a hiccup in our resistance path. However, it still needs to clear the senate (whether with 51 or 60 votes; I’ve heard both), so all is not lost. The amount of money being raised by Kos and Swing Left is huge. At midnight, Kos was up to $600,000 since the vote. We’ve got the money on our side. We’ve got the righteousness on our side. We’ve got the anger on our side. WE ARE THE RESISTANCE

    • Hello dear….We are gonna bury the Repukes….Need to buy lots of shovels!

    • Hiya basket…What’s up with you…Miss your snarky comments at my expense….LOL

    • I wish I hadn’t looked. The comments are atrocious and all start with “I didn’t watch the video because…” insert RW insult against Obama. Done corralling the elliptical. Now for my first of two walks. Carry on, meese.

  6. Hi Meeses! Thank you Batch! I am on the ACA, as a self employed web designer and consultant, which means I work at my desk at home. I used to teach HTML classes as well but the place where I did that went under (after decades!).

    I make subsistence wages, and pay my own everything at tax time, which is a biatch. But I’m my own boss and I really do like what I do. I’m just not very good at getting lots of money for it. ;-)

    I cried when I first signed up for health care through the ACA, because I had been without any kind of safety net for more than 10 years. Good thing I’m reasonably healthy, in spite of being sedentary. I honestly haven’t used it in the whole time since. But I can’t pay any more than I am now.

    However another thing is happening in my life which may have some effect on my health care coverage. That is for the future to work itself out.

    My favorite part of your post today besides the wonderful commentary is the tweets about HRC’s new venture. And so in her honor and for our benefit, I say…

    Together!!!!
    • Hi Gracie…The deplorables are digging their own grave. They are so damn dumb they don’t see it yet but will be crying in their Bud Light come 2018.

      To which I say…It can’t be soon enough!

      Gotta think positive otherwise I’d be crazier than I already am.

  7. Nice job Batch. It’s been a gray depressing sky today in the ATL. Fitting. Got surprised last night by a tornado warning which also feels appropriate. I made my round of donations this morning, ACLU, Planned Parenthood, NRDC and EarthJustice, one way of fighting back. Gotta hope for better from the Senate, I wish Ted Kennedy was still around

    • I join you in my monthly contributions. I have recurring payments to PP, ACLU, SPLC and DAV (Disabled American Vets) plus annual donations to the WWF and NWF (World and National Wildlife Foundations). I can’t say that I “trust” any republican senator but I’m hoping at least a couple of the vulnerable ones in 2018 (Flake-AZ and Heller-NV) may be concerned enough and Rand Paul will be his usual self.
