Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: Aug. 27th through Sept. 2nd

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (every Sunday morning). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

  1. Good morning, meese! Saturday …

It is 45 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 72. Sunny this morning, cloudy this afternoon.

I am going to skip the news this morning and focus on accounting projects before going to a youth sporting event. The Democratic Weekly Address is from the Senate side this week and they are always late so I will post Fighting Back probably tomorrow. Next week Congress comes back with a lot on its platter: continuing resolution to keep the government open past September 30th, raising the debt limit, Hurricane Harvey FEMA funding, and DACA. There seems to be a groundswell of support for a legislative solution to protect the DREAMers – the Attorney General of Tennessee dropped out of the lawsuit suing the government to cancel DACA citing “the human element”. JHC on a pogo stick! It has always been about the “human element” and for a Republican to just now realize the immorality of deporting people who crossed the board as infants and who have lived here all their lives is frustrating beyond belief. They were against “Obama’s DACA” but now it is just “DACA” and it looks fine to them. I despise them.

I see from the comments that the Moose has been skittish this week – losing comments, requiring extra effort to log in. I have not noticed it and was only logged out once (usually it is 3 or 4 times a week) but I will run the database maintenance to tighten everything up. I have noticed that there is more spam and bot traffic lately, maybe that is contributing.

    See all y’all later!

    • Ha! A banishing spell is definitely needed!! I am encouraged to see that the shitgibbon is becoming increasingly unhappy in the White House – we are unhappy that he is there also!! As awful as a Pence presidency would be – and he would be no more a legitimate president than Trump is, btw – it would probably give us weekends off from fretting over what new hell has been unleashed, what new embarrassment we have to suffer. I take comfort in the fact that the deplorables will be convinced that even if Trump resigns, Pence and Republicans in Congress will be blamed for pushing him out and they will be shredded. The Republicans created and legitimized right-wing hate media and now they have to share power with them.

What kind of weather is this for early September? I like it – I am no fan of hot weather – but it is crazy stuff.

      • Never seen end of summer weather like this before. Bizarre.

I’m now worrying about Hurricane Irma – which may be headed to Puerto Rico :(

        • That is not good. Puerto Rico has no powerful benefactors to help them if they are hit by a devastating hurricane.

  2. Slept in, and hit snooze a few times. Now, watching the news & eating breakfast. When I’m awake enough, I’ll think what to do about the car. Today, just grocery shopping. And the gym. Two weeks from today I’ll be on my way to see U2!

  3. 56 this morning when I got up – mostly cloudy but enough light to be generating something. Yesterday being the 1st, the day’s production and the m-t-d are the same at 19.15 KWHs which is a good start for September. At least the angle of the sun (and hours of daylight) remain stable, no matter how weird the weather.

I’ve had mad king donald fatigue since the campaign. Nothing he and his deplorables – nor the congressional Rs who thought they could use him – do surprises or even shocks me. Appalls me, definitely. But not surprised. Even if I hadn’t already known who they were, Hillary warned us. Some people don’t understand (don’t want to understand) that the only way to deal with voter suppression by election day is get the hell out and vote. The evil ones must be overwhelmed by sheer numbers – like the troops taking Omaha Beach – purity votes and staying home and pouting ain’t gonna get it. So. I pay attention to the alerts for petitions and phone calls. (Like call your congresscritter and say “NO!” on HR 3423 which creates another catfood commission on Social Security – and equally “NO!” on having anything at all to do with Social Security attached to the Debt Ceiling vote.) Otherwise I ignore it. Drama has never been my thing. I worked on “The Lark” and “The Runner Stumbles” 30+ years back and still have occasional bad dreams (at least they aren’t full-fledged nightmares) – I need at least enough sleep to function.

Blessings on a DK angel yesterday – covered the immediately-due rents on my urgent community needs list. Hopefully other folks will step up to cover the utilities, car insurances, and vet bills – and then the important but not urgents like Home Depot gift cards for Aji and donations to the Austin AIDS walk. I’ll keep putting the word out and focusing on opening the Channel of Good.

    Need to do a few things about the house then get to DK and work on my Sharing Saturday diary. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  4. Good morning, 60 and partly cloudy in Bellingham. tRump blues are biting again today so I’m going to find an easy project in the garden to focus on. I pruned more laurel branches from the hedge yesterday and that was very satisfying and distracting. My BCH leg can’t do that everyday, but I should be able to work on the ivy fences.

    Best Saturday wishes to all!
