Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: Apr. 22nd through Apr. 28th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (every Sunday morning). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

  1. Good morning, 48 and mostly sunny in Bellingham. My wish to be in my sewing room yesterday met reality, and reality won. It was a long day of laundry, scheduling deferred medical appointments, errands, and then a nap to recover. I’m going to the pool this morning, and I hope I’ll have some pillow sewing energy this afternoon.

Best wishes to all for a peaceful Friday.

  2. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

It is 37 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 50. Sunny skies are in the forecast.

The week ended with a flurry of Trump-Russia news and one Republican Congressman calling for Trump to get the Nobel Peace Prize for single-handedly denuclearizing the Korean peninsula! No need to wait until that denuclearization occurs – or to note that we have been down this path before – insta-prize just as one would expect on a reality TV show. I really don’t care who gets credit for bringing peace to the region – and anything that will slow down the Pompeo-Bolton war council until adults can take over our foreign policy in 2021 is good. If Trump owns “peace” then he will have a more difficult time dropping a nuke. As someone pointed out on Twitter yesterday, this might also bode well for the Iran deal – if Trump cancels that deal, the United States will lose any credibility related to promises over denuclearization and there will be zero chance for a Korean deal. I hope there are one or two career diplomats left in the State Department who can successfully make that argument.

The Democratic Party Weekly Address is Senator Jeanne Shaheen talking about the latest Republican attempt to sabotage the Affordable Care Act. Nancy Pelosi was at a town hall with Georgetown University students talking about A Better Deal, the Democratic Party’s plan for when we take back Congress. I will post the Fighting Back after I get my early morning projects done.

    See all y’all later!

  3. Saturday Meese
47 going up to 69 here in NY. Finally the daffodils are in full bloom here – very very late for them.

Overslept for the first time in years.

Was glad to see Malcolm Nance defending Joy Ann – and Markos too.

  4. Good morning, Moosekind! It’s somewhat cloudy and misty, but the sun is trying to break through here in NoVa. This is late April and the trees are still only half-dressed! The dogwoods are only just beginning to bloom and the redbuds are still blazing away in purple array. This spring has been so cold that everything is two to four weeks late.

Currently it’s 44 F. in Ashburn, going up to 73 F. Although tomorrow will be cold (only 60 F. for a high), next week we’ll have temps. in the 80s and even 90s. Weird.

This morning we tried to have cappuccino with our almond croissants, but apparently the glass water line in the machine broke during the move. We had to have regular coffee instead. (First-world problem, admittedly.)

Yesterday Dearly Beloved energetically cleared a path for the Ikea guys to deposit the bookcase, in boxes, supposedly arriving today between 11 and 3. I hope Younger Son can come over tomorrow to help put it up and mount the TV on the wall. After the books are put away and the small sofa in the den is moved, we can get a desk chair and chair mat for my office space. The carpet still reeks faintly, but not as badly as before we used the Nature’s Miracle remedy recommended by bfitz. When all has settled, I’m going to hire a professional carpet cleaner to come in.

My Lasik “enhancement” is scheduled for Monday, 7 May, so I have to get a lot done before then. I’m required not to use eye makeup for a week and to use brand-new makeup when I do start using it again. Although this means I will look hideous for the Mother’s Day barbecue, it’ll all be worth it in the end.

Wishing a good, peaceful day to all at the Pond and Beyond!

  5. Good morning, 49 and cloudy in Bellingham. We now have all the wood here for the damn deer fence…..clear cedar looks nice but it’s expensive! We’ll need to grow a lot of veggies to recoup the cost. So today will be another building in the rain day. I’ll be on Heidi/mud duty.

    Best Saturday wishes to all.

  6. Happy last Saturday in April – 55 heading for 75 and sunny. Got 23 KWHs yesterday and with this morning’s bit we’re already at 393 so we will make the 400 for the month! Probably by mid-afternoon in fact so tomorrow and Monday will “extra” – much desired but goal already met. :)

Hope Joy Reid gets back on Twitter soon. The RW owners of the media just keep finding ways to silence our team and puff up theirs. (“Jack” apologized to a RWNJ for calling her RW – pays no attention to reports of virulent abusive attacks on us.) If we don’t find some way to break up the RW media ownership we may someday be illegally tuning homemade radios to “Radio Free America” to get anything but the approved propaganda message. The one thing the Founders weren’t able to foresee and prevent was the possibility of corporate consolidation of the media. So we don’t have a constitutional fallback on this. Meanwhile I’ll keep RTing what I can find to RT – with the help of folks like Denise :) – and see what else I can do to “make things better” or at least help block them getting worse.

    Aji’s She-Wolf walked on yesterday morning, one more hole in her heart. More folks I’m not finding at DK when I go to check on my “DK family” – I spoze there’ll come a time when they’ll all be gone & my only reason for going will be Denise’s FP & to RT her twitter roundups wherever I find them. Will be investigating a local “charity” next week or the week after to see about volunteering now the weather is warmer. Need to do my tour of the internets and get coffee. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
