Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: July 22nd through July 28th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (every Sunday morning). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

  1. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

It is 57 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 77. The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies, clouding up towards evening. The overnight coolness is a blessed relief and we are in day two of not needing to turn on the air conditioning!

Nancy Pelosi led a Congressional delegation to Puerto Rico on Thursday to bring more attention to the plight of the island.

“Democrats are traveling to Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands to listen, to learn and to shine a light on this crisis. Our delegation will visit with working families, local officials and leaders, faith groups and community groups to discuss the steps that remain to be taken to put our fellow Americans back on the road to recovery. We are committed to ensuring that every community devastated by the hurricanes will receive the assistance they need, particularly as we face fresh threats from this year’s hurricane season.”

NBC had a small clip from a presser they held yesterday. It sounds like Democrats want to be ready to hit the ground running when we take back Congress in January. :)

The Weekly Address is on Medicare and health care in general and I will put up the Fighting Back post after I get a few projects done. When people say we are only running on TrumpHate and Russia, they are lying. We are running on health care and on oversight. And those are winning messages.

    See all y’all later!

  2. Saturday Meese

68 going up to 85 here in NYS with rain
Horrid evening and night with really bad thunderstorms – and power going on and off. Dogs went crazy and I got almost no sleep

  3. Good Saturday morning, Meese! It’s fair this morning after heavy rain yesterday evening. My plants on the screened porch are looking quite happy. The current temperature in Ashburn is 65 F., going up to 84 F.—very nice indeed for late July!

Mr. Preschooler was ill yesterday so Miss Pink Cheeks offered to take his place for the Friday night sleepover. We’ll see if he can visit next Friday. Today, after I cook breakfast for Miss PC and Grandpa, we’re stashing the dog in day care while we go to our youngest grandson’s birthday party. He won’t actually be three until Lammas Eve, July 30, but obviously birthday parties can’t be held on a Monday.

Am going through email HELL with Thunderbird, my email client. It keeps bugging me to enter the master password for the software security device. I changed it the other day but it won’t accept the new password now. I can’t access my sulis email on the laptop but I’m getting it on my telephone, thank Goddess. I’ll have to start transitioning everything to my gmail address, which I really hate doing. Gmail stacks emails on top of each other so one never knows whether one has received something new or not.

Anyway, I won’t keep on about it. Problem is, even if I call tech help here, hardly anyone knows anything about Thunderbird, which is really old.

Wishing a good day to all at the Pond and beyond!

    • I hate this about Gmail:

Gmail stacks emails on top of each other so one never knows whether one has received something new or not.

On my phone, I can’t tell what is new unless I open the “conversation”. I have my browser set up to not show “conversations” and it still shows them as individual replies. So far it has not forced me to go threaded but I don’t know how long that will last!

Thunderbird is very old and listened to its own drummer. I stayed away from those things and stuck with the Microsoft products for myself and my clients. Sometimes that meant it was not as “slick” but it was always stable and compatible with the operating system. I hope you can sort it out!

  4. Slept in & I’m watching Le Tour. Today is an individual time trial, it’s a bit rainy and the course is hilly & twisty so I hope everything ends up ok. Hot again today, and next week’s rain chances have diminished. Today: groceries & prelims for tomorrow’s cooking.

  5. 67 when I got up, 69 now, with 99% humidity. It’s supposed to go up to 85 and we’ve supposed to get thunderstorms. I hope if that happens, it waits until after dark. Especially since forecast has thunderstorms for the next 2 days as well. We got 20.6 KWHs yesterday and the m-t-d is sitting at 440. With only 4 days left to generate for July, 500 is easily doable IF the sun shines. So it’s really gonna depend on how much cloudiness comes with these projected thunderstorms. And when.

We’ve got a solid “making things better” message we’re running on. We have to find a way around the MSM who are paid to not show that message. I hope social media can do it. There’s not a whole lot of other options. Except boots-on-the-ground, precinct-level organizing and canvassing. Dem to Dem postcards help. I hope. This new program to coordinate texting might. Breaking that media monolith is right up there with voting rights for keeping us anything like a free country. And it’s the one nobody dare run on because they’d really make targets of themselves if they did.

    Meanwhile I’ve been to the Market and am making green bean salad for next week. Counting down the days (6 including today) until I leave. Healing Energy to everybody. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  6. Good morning, 66 and sunny in Bellingham today. This afternoon RonK is speaking at a memorial service for an old colleague so we will have a thoughtful day. We’re both feeling reflective and even more aware of the passage of time.

    Take care everyone.
