Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: Apr. 26th through May 2nd

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

  1. Good morning, 50 and mostly sunny in Bellingham. I had a fumble finger sewing day yesterday so I’m feeling both frustrated and tired today. One problem was with the machine and I think I’ve fixed the threading issue. The other problem is my creaky legs and tired brain and I fear there’s no fix for that so I’ll just persist :)

My mask sewing is having the desired effect of helping my family feel safer and cared for, and they are as comfortable to wear as can be but I sure wish we didn’t need them. Looks like our social distancing is going to last longer that May 4th so I’d best take a deep breath and keep coping!

Best wishes to all on this first day of May.

  2. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

It is 57 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 68. Mostly cloudy skies are in the forecast.

Quick recap of the news: Trump “Administration” blocks all oversight and investigation into their coronovirus response, press is useless as it ignores the failures: they want tRump re-elected because it is exciting to them and produces clicks, states in the Dixie Death Compact are reopening despite increases in cases. Goddess protect the health care workers and first responders who will have to try to save their lives.

I put up the Fighting Back post which discusses the Democratic Party’s plan to get affordable broadband Internet access to everyone. The digital divide is now going to become an educational divide if we don’t get unserved and underserved communities online. This is not just an urban thing but an issue for rural areas where closing schools means shutting down education. Let’s do it!

Good luck, Sis Dee, with your move! I hope your Internet transfers seamlessly and you are not offline for long.

    See all y’all later!

  3. Saturday Meese
Am packing and moving – can’t post tweets from my phone
Be back when Im moved in

  4. Good Saturday morning, Moosekind! For once it’s a fair morning, 55 F. already in Ashburn, threatening to go up to 71 F. Might be able to get out for a good long walk later.

Just made blueberry bran muffins using applesauce instead of oil and they were delicious. I threw in half a cup of chopped pecans to make them more exciting. I had to make them with white flour, though, because my shopper said there is no flour to be had. I’ll see whether Amazon has whole-wheat flour and wheat bran, because I just used up the last of it.

If I’m going to be this boring, I might as well get on with wrestling with the devil (my Mac). I wrestled yesterday and the Mac won, but someone told me to restart the wretched thing. It might have worked!

    Wishing everyone a good day.

  5. Going to have a totally lazy Saturday. I had thought of waking up early & getting in a walk, but I had a terrible night’s “sleep” & some of the only sleep I did get was early this morning. Now I’m drinking tea & watching Ali Velshi on MSNBC. This afternoon, U2 fans on twitter will watch a concert video together, that will be fun. And also the Snow Patrol “Saturday Song Write”, that is always a lot of fun. Definitely not walking outside later today because it’s supposed to get to the upper 90s. Grocery shopping will be the most energetic thing I do.

  6. It’s already 68 and heading for mid 80s today. The cats are happy – the carport door and a couple of windows are open for them. 😸😻😸 Yesterday we started the production month with 17.3 KWHs – early days to say “on track” but anything over 17 is on track for the 500+ KWH goal. So that’s good. It’s supposed to be sunny today but the next three are not so I hope we get another “first since…” day. We shall see what we shall see.

Yahoo mail is trying to force me to get rid of the ad blocker. So far I’ve resisted – when they bring up the “I see you’re using an ad-blocker” box that won’t let me do anything with my mail or close the box, I close the tab and open it in a new one. That’s good for reading and responding/deleting/moving one email before the box comes back. So I do it again. I wish I knew if letting Yahoo ads through would turn off the ad blocker all together so I’d be getting ads on Twitter & DK as well. Oh well. When I get tired of battling Yahoo – or they step it up so my tedious workaround doesn’t work any longer – I’ll start reporting all the ads as offensive and see how they like that.

The Birchers may or may not want twitler to be re-elected but they definitely want us to be weakened. The economy tanking usually means they let us back into power long enough to repair it – but not do derail them and they need us to be weak for that. It’s more like the fascisiti ship just pulls into port while the Dems fuel it and patch up the worst of the holes. Then they pull out again. Not giving us time to really repair it and definitely not giving us a chance to take the helm even when it looks like we’ve got it. And unlike berners/Far Left, we won’t scuttle the ship because there are millions of innocents on it as well as ourselves. Maybe, someday, we’ll manage to dismantle their propaganda machine and stop this. But until we dismantle their propaganda machine it ain’t gonna happen. But at least we get a breather while we’re in port refueling and patching up the ship.

Amelia got her “stimulus” check, I still had that $200 from a friend of hers it turned out she didn’t need for April, and I saved part of mine so between us we’ll cover her “rent” for May. I’m hoping she’ll focus on one thing – getting to the doctor & getting her meds so she can concentrate – sometime in the next 2 weeks. All the plans/goals about fundraising on FB, getting back with the Social Workers, getting back with Housing Authority, even seeing if any of the COVID-19 helps in place will help her (since she was already “houseless” when this started she may be “grandfathered out” as she is with many of the “new” programs put in place under Obama) – all of them depend on her getting her meds so she can concentrate/focus. With Aji the situation is not as urgent but still severe – they need sales and they mostly aren’t getting them. Her Patreon was originally started to pay toward the medical bills but now it’s their base and it’s not big enough for that. But they’re surviving and relatively comfortably – at least as long as they can keep the electricity & internet paid and she can keep her computer going. For the time being they have food and fuel and are managing to get the most vital of their meds. And still help others a bit.

    I’m gonna go get coffee and then tour the internets. In between dealing with litterboxes and other kitty messes. Joys of cats, right? Channeling Healing/Helping Energy to everybody. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  7. Good morning, 54 and raining in Bellingham. I’m losing track of the days as everyday is the same in COVID seclusion. Gov Inslee has extended the stay at home through May 31, with some exclusions so I’ll see what happens with my various scheduled and rescheduled appointments. RonK has been trying to wait for a pro to cut his hair but looks like I’ll have try to trim his unruly locks today. I wish he could do the same for me! But my biggest hope is that by continuing to do our part we will help contain the COVID virus.

I’ve got three more masks to sew for our son’s family, and then I think I’ll bake some cookies and take cookies and masks to their porch fro a visit. Best wishes to all on this rainy day in May.
