Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: April 18th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool, shown here with 3 pages of comments available.

    Now, because of who I am, the right wing and members of Congress who subscribe to the views of groups like QAnon, the Oath Keepers, the Proud Boys and the KKK have targeted me. Those very people have done so to divert attention from the fact that they aided and abetted a violent, domestic terrorist insurrection led by Donald Trump.
    To target me and say that I was violent or encouraging violence is a blatant distortion of the truth.
    I am nonviolent.

  3. Good Saturday morning, Meese, and welcome to another gorgeous day in Ashburn. At least, it’s gorgeous at the moment—39 F., on its way up to 64 F. We may have rain this evening.

    Looks as if with yrs truly, either I get my exercise or I do some work. Yesterday I did a little work on one of the articles I’m supposed to write, and it was such a good feeling I may finish it today. A visit to the grocery store is also in the offing. I wish I knew a decent place to get Chinese food. That’s what I feel like having for dinner tonight. I have a nice recipe for a vegetarian dish called Chinese Mandarin Surprise, also known as White Guy Stir Fry, but it’s more work than I feel like doing today.

    So far I’m keeping the cold under control but am very ready for it to go away so I can stop taking the cold meds. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

  4. Good morning all. I’ve got a diary going up at 9, because there’s a gigantic match for the Ride. In the parallel universe without Covid, today would have been Ride day. After the match is met, I will get out & do something.

  5. It’s 53 heading for mid 60s and raining. Sorta. Not quite drizzle but there is water coming from the sky and if you stand out there long enough you will get wet. Yesterday we got 9 KWHs and 315.5 for the m-t-d. We’ll see what today brings.

    Cats appear to be OK. Which is good. I’d planned on the $500 for the “annual” vet visit and shots for all the cats. I’m OK for it, but I most certainly hadn’t planned on the $700 for Cloud’s dental surgery & longer-than-expected post-op plus Bobbie’s UTI. That just about shoots my stimulus right there. But I’ll manage. I just won’t be helping people I’d hoped to help nor helping the ones I’m helping anyway with as much as I’d hoped to send.

    So much crap going on in the world. We’re not doing as well as we should. I think it’s more a matter of time and weeding out the Deplorables than intent. But people are dying no matter what our intent is. So we need to do better. Somehow.

    Heading off to boost Becky’s diary & then my regular twitter chores. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  6. Good morning, 47 and light rain in Bellingham. I’ve enjoyed the sunny days but the sound of rain on the roof is nice to hear. I’ll still need to water some of the plants, especially the containers with small trees growing in them. It’s nice to have more permanent plantings but it’s a watering commitment to keep them healthy.

    Our grand son is now 20 yrs old, how can that be! Not so long ago I was baking little boy birthday cakes. We’ll have a family party for him next weekend so the cantina will be open with a nacho buffet, margaritas (sans tequila for some), and hot fudge sundaes for dessert. Keeping the patio party space going is a bit of work but I’m grateful the family choses to be here so we can keep having fun together.

    Best wishes to all on this quiet rainy morning.
