Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: September 5th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Saturday Meese. 52 here in Kingston going up to 77. Will be out all day at a sacred ceremony – all participants are vaxxed and will be masked

My response to 9/11 each year brings back memories because I worked in the WTC at that time – and didn’t go to work that day because our sump pump broke. I avoid all the hype and say prayers for those we lost and for those who got targeted by hate who looked “middle eastern”

  2. Good morning. I’m avoiding the news, can’t deal with all the remembrance. Didn’t wake up early to walk, I actually slept the night through (well, woke up twice, but for me that’s exceptional). Going to watch some other stuff, then do housework.

  3. Back into summer(ish) weather with overnights in the mid to upper 60s and highs in upper 80s to low 90s and enough humidity for heat index. It’s 70 at the moment heading for 93 and we shall see about the “feels like”. Mostly sunny anyway. Yesterday we generated 12.598 KWHs and an m-t-d of 129.96 starts the day.

20 years ago this date I was at work. It saw the news videos and was shocked. Then angry. Because those thugs shouldn’t have been able to get into the cockpit at all. Clinton DOJ/anit-terrorism recommendations to the airlines were ignored as being “too expensive”. But after watching it over and over and over – and listening to W’s rhetoric I was just sick to my stomach. I knew we were going to war with somebody. It was not going to be treated as the crime it was. It was going to be treated as an act of war so we could invade whoever W wanted to. And cost us many more lives. As well as those in the country we invaded. As it did. And still is.

    Holding the Good Thoughts for, well, everybody. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  4. Good Saturday morning, Meese! It’s a beautiful day in Ashburn on this sad anniversary. Right now it’s 72 F., going up to 80 F. later. We had a mackerel sky a little while ago, but the cirrus clouds are dissipating against the bright blue sky at this writing. It’s sunny, of course, but pleasingly cool. It was in the 50s this morning when we woke up.

Just went down to the garden. Everything is blackening and looking half-dead. Picked a lot of tomatoes, some nearly ripe and some on the turn. The little ones are always ripe.

The class on Thursday afternoon went with a swing! I told them at the beginning that they all looked rather pale and needed vitamins to raise their blood chocolate levels. I then passed out fun-size packets of M&Ms. They look like vitamins! One member actually wrote me afterwards to say how much she liked the session and hoped to learn a lot about writing.

After that and the interview yesterday morning I promised myself that if I could just get through those two events I had permission to COLLAPSE. And that’s exactly what I did. Didn’t touch the computer, just soaked my foot and rested.

The interview went much better than I’d expected. The host of the show was very professional. She Googled me and actually said she joined MotleyMoose! Anyway, I forgot to be nervous, she was so good at her job. I displayed my statuettes of Leda and Bastet, saying they were mentioned in two of the stories in my book. Afterwards, several people said they really liked the interview.

However, I felt depleted. Being an introvert, these things are very hard for me. After the interview I went to the auditorium to hear and see Terry McAuliffe and our local delegate. I’ve rarely seen the auditorium so full! He said some REALLY interesting things about his Trumpy opponent, Glenn Youngkin. For one thing, the guy was kicked out of The Carlyle Group with a golden parachute, so he decided to run for governor. “The governorship is not a consolation prize for failing at business,” Terry said. Anyway, it just made me determined to do what I can to help McAuliffe win. I hope Texas just handed us the possibility of a slam-dunk victory for Democrats.

That’s enough from me, folks! Wishing everyone at the Pond a lovely quiet Saturday. Like Jan, I’m going to avoid the 9/11 memorials. It’s just too sad.

  5. Good morning, 62 and cloudy in Bellingham. 20 years ago we had just returned from a boat camping trip and I was getting ready to go to work, but the tv was on and I watched in horror. Seems like a long time ago now, but we still live with the consequences.

    Best wishes to all.
