Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: April 17th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Saturday Meese – 41 going up to 61 here in Kingston and sunny. Will be nice to be able to sit outside and soak up some Vitamin D.

  2. Good morning. I actually slept okay last night — only woke up twice. Currently watching the news & eating breakfast. Later, I’ll pick up groceries, and then I’m not sure what. Definitely not walking, my knee feels better but I’m not going to push it.

    • {{{anotherdemocrat}}} Yay! that you slept OK. Healing Energy for your knee. moar {{{HUGS}}}

  3. It’s 66 heading for 82 and sunny at the moment anyway. Yesterday we generated 18.2 KWHs and are right at 300 for the month. We’ve got 8 days left to do the other 100 (or more) for the secondary target.

    I’m waiting for Animal Control to show up with a live trap for the chiweenie I’ve been feeding to keep him from starving. Yes, I know it’s Saturday. Hopefully the woman at Animal Control who returned my call yesterday around 4:30 remembered that when she said they’d be out here this morning. And to not feed the little guy so he’d be hungry enough to go into the trap. They don’t answer the phone on Saturdays so I can’t call – but if they’re not here by noon, I’m putting out food for him. (They should have brought the trap out on Thursday since that’s when this stretch of good weather started.)

    Too much of the west is on fire right now. Fire season starting 2 months early. Even for the “new normal”. Old normal fire season didn’t start until July or even August and only lasted about 8 weeks. But we haven’t been in old normal for over 20 years now. As of last night Aji’s safe. They’re getting smoke from all directions but the fires aren’t close enough to endanger them. Kelley’s packed up/gassed up and ready to evacuate if she has to. I’m not sure about anybody else. Mostly because I don’t know exactly where most of the folks I know in the “west” actually live. Jill’s safe. No fires that far south. Yet. (Well, safe from fires. The other stuff is still ongoing.) No coastal fires in CA that I can find so Amelia & Basket should be safe. (Again, from fires.) Prayers for all those in pain or peril or both. Wildfire or shellfire. Or any other reason.

    I guess I’ll get over to twitter. I normally would be on the treadmill by now but I want to see Animal Control drive up and I can’t from the treadmill. Nor hear them either. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  4. Good Saturday afternoon, Meese! I ran to Trader Joe’s before it became too crowded, so have been busy this morning. I bought Dearly a pizza for lunch, because he loves it.

    The clouds of morning have given way to pale sunlight and a pale blue sky. Current temp. in Ashburn is 71 F., heading for a high of 78 F. I’m wearing the Large Lady shorts I bought at Costco yesterday. Occasionally you can get some rilly good bargains at Costco. These shorts fit well, will last long, and are VERY much cheaper than in the Appleseed catalogue! I ordered some T-shirt dresses from Amazon too.

    The people on the Communications Committee have told me a good way to get rid of the excessive amount of chocolate that I own. Put it into a large dish and sneak out late at night to put the dish in the living room. This is the front entry to our building, where there are tables and chairs, etc. where you can wait for a friend or wait for the shuttle bus to show up. Not all buildings have them, so I’m glad we do.

    No comment on the many evils of the outside world. I’m just going to chill for the moment. Wishing a good day to everyone at the Pond!

  5. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

    It is 64 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 73. Sunny skies are in the forecast.

    It is already 11:30am here and I am just getting around to checking the news. I got a lot of things accomplished this morning and have one fairly large project left that will require driving. I hate that! Tucson has very VERY busy streets and one must have patience (the left turn lights do exist but it often takes quite a long time for them to cycle back to you) and hyper-alertness. I have my car back (it was in the shop for scheduled maintenance and a check engine light that turned out to need a part that had to be ordered) so that is a relief and a curse (now I have no excuse not to drive!).

    I am not going to pay any attention to the “Woe is Us” Democrats Midterm stories because it is 6 months until voting day and between Ron DeSantis taking aim at businesses who refuse to donate to him and increasing taxes on Floridians and Gregg Abbott pleasing his MAGA base at the cost of $4.2 billion to Texans, the Republican Party brand may not be as pretty as it looks now. In any event, people are several months away from deciding who they will vote for and I won’t let the negativity consume me.

    See all y’all later!
