Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: May 15th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good Saturday morning, Meese! Right now it’s 87 F. at this writing (10:50 a.m.), with blue skies and sunshine. It’s going up to 93 F., or so they say. We didn’t break 90 F. yesterday, even though they were predicting it. I had Monty out at 7 a.m. if you please, for a Serious Walkies. I won’t let Dearly take him out in this weather. People his age need to sit quietly in the living room watching sports on telly.

Just read that the Australian media are projecting that Scott Morrison has lost the election! Yay! I’ve already emailed my sister-in-law in Melbourne.

We did a supermarket run and have now put away the groceries. I’m too nervous to drive the loaner car. We’ll spend the rest of the day indoors except for taking Monty out to the courtyard for business meetings. Happy to report that being asleep by 9:30 last night has made me feel wonderful! I haven’t even had to take a pain pill yet.

The dentist was lovely, but she musta shot half a gallon of anesthetic into my poor old gum. She did what she had to do (I’ll spare you the awful details), then had her assistant install a temporary crown. I really wanted to be carried out of there on a stretcher. However, Dearly drove me home, I took an Advil when necessary, and spent the rest of the day doing nothing at all.

Plan to have a quiet day today doing a little cleaning and tidying when I get up from my nap. I think I’ll go to the gym for some weight-lifting and rowing this afternoon. I really do worry about Alzheimer’s. Weight-lifting is supposed to stave it off.

Wishing a nice, peaceful Saturday to all at the Pond. Avoid the news, it’s never good. I’m still trying to forget what I learned yesterday.

  2. Good morning, 49 and sunny outside my window today. One reason RonK and and decided to just live here as long as we can is the garden, but yesterday was interesting. I pruned winter burned salal and RonK weeded a badly overgrown bed on the front lawn, all tasks we’ve done many times before. But yesterday we both got so tired we had to stop. Getting old is real damnit all anyway! I want to finish what I was doing so I’ve got ice on my knees and will soon hobble forth. Best wishes to all.

  3. Hello Everyone! I’ve had this community recommended to me by Denise… She’s my Godmother! Glad to meet everyone! I’m on Twitter under the same name. I live in rural South Ga.. home of the Okefenokee Swamp. My family happens to be one of the only open minded Democrat ones in our area!!! Becca / TheSwampWytch
