Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: July 3rd

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Saturday Meese. 65 going up to 83 and mostly sunny. Will spend most of the day cooking for my Yemaya celebration tomorrow.

Am so sick of Politico and other places pushing for a not-Kamala Harris

  2. Puerto Rico

  3. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

It is 81 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 99. Chance of thunderstorms around mid-day with a trace of precipitation expected.

I am glad that the human garbage known as Elon Musk is not buying Twitter but it really shows how a critical media platform could easily be taken over by terrible people and used for terrible things. I don’t think Twitter management is great but it is a lot better than it has been and we know that Musk would have made it worse. I hope he has to pay billions to cancel the deal – I wish the money could be sent to people who need it.

I did not watch the Biden announcement on abortion protections but I did catch his outrage about the 10 year old rape victim. In red state America, women and girls are just uteruses to be controlled – he reminded people that they can be little girls. They are also women whose fetuses may be literally killing them and people whose lives will be ruined if they have to carry a pregnancy to term. I have zero none zilch nada sympathy for Brett Keggernaugh wanting to eat a fancy meal and being forced to leave the back way from a restaurant without his dessert – not because of fear for his safety but because it is annoying to him to have his terrible rulings protested. He voted to allow women to be killed because their right to bodily autonomy runs up against his male christianist prerogative to control them. I hope his daughters grow up to realize how awful he and his misogyny is and shun him.

I had a mildly productive day yesterday and have a to-do stack I want to get ahead of today. I would like to go to the Sprouts today to get salad makings and melons but I am not sure I want to fight the Saturday shopping crowds. I will see how I feel after I finish my projects.

    See all y’all later!

  4. Good morning. We have excessive heat warnings for the weekend, I’m staying inside except for grocery shopping. Currently watching the news & eating breakfast.

  5. The heat index never got below 80 overnight. sigh. But it’s supposed to be “a lot” cooler today – high of 92 instead of 102 and the heat index to (probably) not go over 100. What’s even better is the overnight is supposed to be in the 60s so I can open the house in the morning. We had enough clouds yesterday to keep the production down – only 16.5 KWHs which isn’t quite on track for the day. But close enough that the m-t-d at 142.66 still is on track to get over 500 for the month.

The only thing I can think of to be happy about is Dee’s ceremony tomorrow. That’s a good thing unalloyed with anything wrong or bad or uncomfortable. Everything else is hanging on in a not very good space – or actively getting worse. But we’ll keep on keepin’ on as long as we can.

    Off to twitter. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  6. Good Saturday morning, Meese. It’s 71 F. in Ashburn and we’re getting sprinkles. There is a possibility of imaginary heavy rain.

I plan to go NOWHERE today. I want a day of resting, reading, and cleaning. The cleaning isn’t much fun, but the others will be. It’s nearly halfway through August and I still haven’t finished writing my birthday letter to my daughter! Rats.

Well, as the day goes by I will gradually get some things done, and that’s the best I can hope for. Wishing everyone at the Pond a good, restful day.
