Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: August 28th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good morning, Motley Meese! The week begins …

    Morning low of 75 degrees in the Desert Southwest with an expected daytime high of 90. Sunny skies are in the forecast.

    Have a great day, all y’alls!!

  2. Sunday Meese. 62 going up to 87 here in Kingston NY. I’m amazed to see the attention our congressional district is getting because of Pat Ryan’s win. We are usually ignored up here

  3. Puerto Rico

  4. Good morning. Watching Velshi while my tea steeps. Got a lot done yesterday. Today, just church and then…..I guess housework.

  5. It’s 76 heading for 89, humid as all get out, and I closed up the house as soon as I finished vacuuming. Sort of sunny – and probably will cloud up in the afternoons pretending to be a monsoonal climate as it’s been doing most of the effen summer. We generated 13 KWHs yesterday and the m-t-d is 369 with 4 days left in August.

    I’ve done all my Sunday housecleaning chores and overheated myself doing it. I’m OK but I don’t think I’ll do the treadmill today. I’m just hoping I can manage to not turn the A/C back on. It’s 76 inside so now is OK. But outside the heat index isn’t supposed to get below 80 until around 2 am.

    Both Walmart and Tractor Supply have added “heavy item fee” to their delivery schedule. And heavy items include 50-lb bags of dogfood. So Jill’s got trouble. She doesn’t drive and doesn’t know anyone who does well enough to ask them to take her but taxis are $25 each way. What you might call your basic really crappy thing to do to Disabled folks who can’t drive. Whether or not they’re on SSI which tops out at $841 per month. For Amelia things seem to be looking up. No change as far as I know for everybody else. Holding the Good Thoughts/sending Healing Energy to everyone.

    Off to twitter & DK. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  6. Good Sunday morning, Moose Peeps! It’s 77 F. right now in Ashburn, sunny and humid. The high will be 90 F. today.

    I thought the moon launch was today, which is silly, because why would they do it on Sunday? They’re going to launch on Moon Day morning. In two years they’ll be building a habitat on the Moon. This makes me very happy, as it will enable us to ensure that certain Rethugs are permanently out to launch.

    We’ve done little this summer except go to the doctor, and now the poor dog is ill! He is still interested in food but is so lethargic we fear for him. This has been going on ever since he returned from that infernal dental cleaning almost two weeks ago. Dearly wants to take him to an emergency vet this afternoon.

    I fooled around all day yesterday and didn’t get any work done. Just crown me the World’s Foremost Procrastinator, OK? I have deadlines, looming, though, so I really, totally need to get on them.

    It’s already 10 a.m. The proper breakfast has been cooked and consumed, so now it’s time to throw a kitchen towel and tablecloth load into the laundry and get on with things. Wishing a nice, peaceful day to all at the Pond.

  7. Good morning. I slept really badly last night. Woke up hungry at 11 — what’s up with that? And then hot, so uncomfortable I had to bump the a/c down to 74. Guess it’s a good thing I’m in the office today, the noise should keep me awake. Excited about the Artemis launch.

      • Yes. It’s better to scrub the launch and wait until Friday, when the engine is repaired, than to go ahead. Remember the O-rings in 1986?

        We can wait.

        • I will never forget the O-Rings and the look on Christa McAuliffe’s parents faces as they watched their school teacher daughter killed by corporate greed and sheer incompetence.

  8. Good Moon Day morning, Moosekind, it’s the day of the moon lauch! The rocket is named for the Greek form of the name of my matron Goddess, Diana.

    It’s 75 F. and sunny, no rain today.

    Monty is not at all well. Dearly is going to take him to the emergency vet today.

    See you later! Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

  9. Good morning, meeses! Monday …

    It is 75 in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 93. No monsoonal rain activity in the forecast – we are scheduled for some very hot days, a bad time for my air conditioning to start acting up. I need to figure out what we do if we can’t cool our apartment – I am hearing all sorts of horror stories about supply chain issues delaying repairs of just about everything. Fingers crossed that it is something simple or a part they keep in stock.

    "United States" Senator Lindsey Graham is calling for an armed rebellion against the government. I guess you can take the boy out of South Carolina but you can never take sedition completely out of a South Carolina boy. I wonder who will win a second Civil War? I hope this time around we lock the traitors up and throw away the key instead of forgiving them and letting them and their descendants rise up against us again.

    Busy morning here as I try to wrap up the month of August. I am NOT ready for September.

    See all y’all later!

  10. It’s already 76 and I’ve already closed up the house. I’m hoping I can get through another day without A/C. If I can just hold out until Wednesday. It’s not that the highs will be that much lower but the overnights sure will. Yesterday we generated 10.4 KWHs – the m-t-d is 379.6 with 3 days left in the month. We shall see what we shall see.

    Lousy sleep last night so not functioning as well as I’d like. Everything takes longer – partly because my hands are about an inch off of where I think they are. Which is more problematic than it sounds at any time and especially on a keyboard. Everything seems to be trucking along as it has been. Healing Energy to everyone. Including Monty Beagle.

    Off to twitter. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  11. Good morning, 66 and sunny outside my window today. It’s a very quiet morning so I’ve been reading around and just being in the moment. Time to get busy now though because a long list of chores are waiting, starting with laundry and ending at my desk. I would grumble about Monday being too busy but in truth my procrastination is the reason! One more cup of tea and then I’ll see how much I can get done. As always, my best wishes to all.

  12. Tuesday Meese. 72 here in Kingston going up to 91. Weather forecast changed – we now are supposed to get rain – meanwhile the Mayor has issued another statement about our drought – looks like there has been no reduction of water usage – people are not paying attention to the guidelines :(

    Puerto Rico

    A reminder

  13. Good morning. Happily wfh today. Got lots of new applications, so more than enough work to keep me busy. Watching astronomy shows and local news — which has a story about “underwater snow”…. I’ll let you know what that means. We might get between 2-4 inches of rain over the next few days! Not a drought-buster but still nice.

  14. It’s 69 heading for 90 and more-or-less cloudy at the moment. I didn’t have to turn on the A/C yesterday. The rain moved in early yesterday and dropped the temps into the low 70s by 6 pm – what’s even better, they didn’t go back up again when the rain stopped. So the house has been open since then and will have been open 15 hours by the time I close up again. We generated just over 10 KWHs and the m-t-d is 390 – 2 days left. We shall see what we shall see.

    I can’t say I got good sleep, but I certainly got better sleep so that part’s good. I’ve managed 1 session on the treadmill, hoping I can get the other 2 for my back’s sake. Lisa’s still recovering from Saturday, but it’s the knee pain and fatigue, no anxiety in this mix, so hopefully it won’t take as long. Jill discovered 2 more of her son’s unit have walked – that’s 5 now – and if her suspicions are correct there will be more. Everybody else is trucking along. Well, we all are, aren’t we. Healing Energy to everyone.

    Off to twitter. I’ll close up the house as soon as I get set up over there. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  15. Good Tuesday moaning, Meese! It’s fair right now, 77 F. at 9 a.m., on its way up to 93 F. Strong thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon, from 3 to 5.

    Sitting here waiting for the computer person to show. Apparently the person will come BETWEEN 9 and 11, not at 9. Well, whoopee shee-ut! What am I supposed to do while waiting? Never mind, I’ll think of something. I can always fold laundry.

    Poor little Monty is at the vet undergoing exploratory whatever for $500. He pees on the hallway carpet instead of asking to go out. He is so lethargic I feel sorry for him. Anyway, we should find out something soon. Thank Goddess for credit cards, that’s all I can say.

    It’s been 4 weeks since my darling son-in-law began setting up my new computer, so I’ve forgotten every single thing I know about it. Luckily he took a picture of the passwords I chose. Let’s hope they still work.

    I know, first-world problems! Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

    • I had a similar thing with my dog and they found some elevated liver values that had them concerned. They wanted to dig around in her to get a definitive answer but we chose to get her a liver supplement. It helped a lot!

  16. Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …

    It is 77 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 99. No rain expected until Sunday.

    I can’t stay – I was up too late last night and got up late and am moving slowly. I think I will take the day off. I only had time to quickly scan the headlines and and a bit of good news caught my eye – Chuck Todd may be out as Meet the Press host. I hope that doesn’t mean that they will give him a show on MSNBC; they should dump him. We don’t need his right-wing bs and both-sidesering ahead of the midterms. One side is right and the other side are fascists. Period, end of sentence.

    See all y’all later!

  17. Good morning, 76 and sunny outside my window today. I was awake in the night, then slept late so my day is off to an all familiar slow start. Oh well, the laundry is now contained and I have a working list for my desk so I can just proceed as best I can. But first I want to catch up with all the solitaire games I’ve missed this month…..nice to win then all and get a “perfect” score for the month :) Best wishes to all.

  18. Wednesday Meese. Will stop worrying about my petty water problems – while people in Jackson don’t have water to drink, bathe in – or even to flush toilets.

    How you can help
