Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: August 28th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good morning. Once again looking forward to the Artemis launch. I hope it works, but more than that I hope they are cautious and safe. Watching the news, later I’ll pick up groceries and maybe cook.

  2. Good Saturday morning, Meese. It’s 76 F. in Ashburn and rather cloudy. It still won’t rain, though. We are now two inches under for the year.

Work this morning, then off to Trader Joe’s because I forgot to get any orange juice for Dearly.

Jan, apparently I have to save everything in OneDrive. This is a PITA. It means I have to memorize the name of every file I create. I like to just click on a file folder and find the file. I suppose I’ll get used to it. If I can put up with that Mac for 8 years, Goddess knows I can put up with anything.

Have decided on a slightly new course for my life—won’t happen until later this year, though. Tomorrow, Goddess willin’ and the creek don’t git up, we hope to take Nora and Karl out to Sunday breakfast, which hasn’t happened in about three years.

Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

    • When you are in Word, have you done a Save As then clicked Browse? When I do that, I can navigate within the folders I have created and save to them. You do not have to just save everything to GLOB OneDrive – that would be hell. I will shoot you an email with some screen shots of what you should be seeing.

  3. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

It is 77 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 91. Mostly sunny skies this morning but cloudy this afternoon – slight chance of rain.

Biden’s speech decrying the violence of MAGA Republicans apparently sparked violent threats from MAGAts. Who could have predicted that? :::insert eyeroll here::: To those who say that Biden should have called out to people’s patriotism and not talked about voting and such, were they not freaking paying attention? (That was rhetorical, of course they were not). He was appealing to their patriotism and asking them to do the most patriotic thing they can do – vote for the people who want to preserve democracy instead of the people who want to destroy it.

I posted his speech here so you can read it and watch it, bad lighting and all.

For what it is worth, I don’t agree with using the term MAGA Republicans like it somehow is not the actual Republican Party doing this. The violent extremism is enabled by the cowardice of the so-called mainstream Republican Party, a party that has a checkered past when it comes to calling out to the worst instincts in Americans in order to win elections. From Philadelphia, Mississippi to Charlottesville, Virginia to January 6th they have been signalling that they are the party of christian white supremacy and that every deplorable is welcome. They can only win elections when the tax-cut Republicans turn a blind eye to those deplorables – unless they are willing to lose some electoral power in order to save their country, they are just as bad (and maybe worse) than the people Joe Biden specifically called out.

I have a bunch of queued up work that got set aside because of some disruptions to my normal schedule this past week so I need to do a bit of triage to see what I should do today, what can wait for tomorrow and what can wait for the Monday Bonus Day.

    See all y’all later!

  4. It’s 68 heading for 86 and overcast at the moment. Also a bit muggy. We may or may not get sunshine later in the day. Yesterday we generated 5.5 KWHs and the m-t-d at 13.5 would be fine – IF it were for a single day and not 2.

I’ve talked to basket and to my son and reconsidered Geek Squad. Neither have a lot of faith in them and when I was talking to the apparently young man setting up the appointment I got a distinct undertone of smugness in dealing with a clueless old lady. The tool kit and thermal paste with shipping and handling came to $68 when I ordered it this morning but that’s still better than $100. Which was the over the phone estimate and could have gone higher. My son says as long as he’s got a video, he can do it. And basket sent me a link to the video. So I won’t be offline for multiple days next week. I don’t know when the stuff will get here and I don’t know when my son will have time to do it so I’ll be babying the system – using ice packs as needed – for a while. But I’m much more comfortable about it.

Sleep wasn’t good – I got at least 6 hours but broken and light. Sinusitis strikes again and all that. I’ve got ants in the kitchen. They haven’t found the food. I think they’re scouts looking for a new home. They come in every time we get rain but it’s getting worse. Anyway, I’ve been doing a lot of smashing ants because I’ve run out of ant poison. And I purely can’t tell where they’re coming from. They’re just there. sigh.

    Off to twitter to start my day there and see how everybody’s doing. Healing Energy for everyone. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
