Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: February 26th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good morning. Cold — ok, 45 isn’t “cold” to most of y’all, but it is here. So glad the weekend is here. No real cooking to do, and it will be gorgeous to walk this afternoon.

  2. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

    It is 37 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 64. Sunny skies are in the forecast. We are getting close to the time when people envy our weather and relatives want to come to visit. April and May are considered the best months in the Old Pueblo with October and November a close second.

    There is nothing I care to read about in the news today. I feel somewhat disconnected from what is happening because I no longer read Twitter to scan the news. They killed off the third-party app I was using which let me completely shut down the connection and now Twitter is part of my browser which doesn’t feel safe to me (what kind of things can their software discern from other searches I do or other web sites I visit?). I have been clicking on Tusky to find news but I don’t have a very comfortable timeline, the news seems to come in firehose bursts instead of slowly flowing in like my Twitter timeline did. Oh well, maybe the news is too much negativity anyway. It is discouraging to see that the slow walking of the investigation into tRump will run right up against the 2024 election season and everything – including democracy – will be put on hold again. If tRump or one of the mini-tRumps wins in 2024, all investigations and prosecutions will end, all January 6th rioters will be pardoned and the country will become uninhabitable. I wonder if Merrick Garland has any idea the danger our 200+ year old “experiment in democracy” is in? In my mind, it is a failure of imagination on his part – typical for “institutionalists” who think that democratic traditions are enough to save us. Nope! They did not stop a deadly insurrection and they clearly did not stop the election of more people who would help the insurrectionists the next time.

    I need to get my day started. I have to make a decision on off-premise storage options and that will require another visit to the storage place to re-measure some things already stored that I want to move to a smaller unit. I want to get there before people wake up and get their day started and make me curse them for driving badly.

    See all y’all later!

  3. It’s 35 heading for 65 and sunny at last. At least for today. Yesterday we didn’t even quite make it to 3 KWHs but close enough with the partials from the previous days for the m-t-d to reach 13.9 – not on track. We’ll see what today’s sunshine does for us. It can’t catch us up, but it can do some serious gaining.

    Other than using the half bath toilet during the day (which also has the water turned off but it doesn’t leak when I fill the tank from the tap with a 3-pint coffee canister) it’s a normal day. Well, mostly normal. I did laundry last night and need to put it and the racks away and I also need to mix & cook my next 2 weeks’ worth of breakfast sausages sometime today. Normal things. But I’ll do those after I’ve done my morning online chores. LOL. {{{Meeses}}}

  4. Good morning, 37 and cloudy skies, but the rain seems like spring rain so I’m not complaining. I’m still needing to keep my BCH leg elevated so I’m gardening with list and ideas and I am complaining about that! Oh well, rest and elevation is still effective for managing the long term care needed for my legs post blood clots so I am grateful.

    Jan, I miss the immediacy of twitter news too and I’m sharing your feelings of detachment. I still read twitter, but mostly for the Ukraine experts I follow. I haven’t found another source that comes close to the same level of expertise and writing about the war. It’s often hard reading but I don’t want to look away.

    Time for coffee, solitaire and to write another list :) Best wishes to all.
