Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: April 2nd

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

    It is 55 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 79. Sunny skies are in the forecast. I love being able to have the window open in my office to hear the early morning critters and the birds!

    I am glad to see that Vice President Harris went to Tennessee to advocate on behalf of democracy. The Republican lawmakers said that the expulsions were to “teach a lesson to the darkies” – oh wait, they were not quite so blatant. As their numbers and their power is shrinking nationwide, the MAGAts in the states are accelerating their move to authoritarianism. I was struck by the fact that Democrats only have 25 votes in a 100 person legislative body. That would be extraordinarily depressing to any Tennessean who might want a better life and hoped for help from their elected officials. And puts a lie to the claim by the KKK House member Rep. Farmer that all the expelled Democrats needed to do is “introduce and pass a bill” to achieve the change they wanted. Right.

    Dueling federal courts have blocked and unblocked abortion pill access nationwide. I am having a difficult time understanding how a single judge in Texas can block national laws. This has been happening for years and it makes no sense to me, first that it can happen and second that there is no fix for it. If I recall, one fix would be to pass laws that are not subject to certain kinds of judicial review. When we get the House back, someone needs to look into that – it is a stupid way to run a country.

    I am determined to make some progress on the projects I deferred last April after the move. I don’t think I can use “exhausted from move” as an excuse any longer and I know that I will feel better as I reclaim space.

    See all y’all later!

  2. Good morning. Cold but it’s done raining for now. Picking up groceries, making risotto with mushrooms & broccoli for tomorrow. That and walking is my whole plan for today.

  3. It’s 44 heading for 70 and sunny. Yesterday we 16.4 KWHs and the m-t-d at 102 is still on track for 400. The forecast is trying to inch next week’s temps up again but they’re still in the 70s. The forecast is also saying we’re going to get more sunny days. I hope the forecast is right this time.

    Fineena is definitely not comfortable but still nothing that isn’t to be expected after her surgery. Of course the idiot doctors who can’t read somebody’s medical chart to save their lives (or their patients’ lives) gave her a pain med Rx at a lower dosage than she already takes for her back. Since she’s got that Rx for her back, she’s doing OK. At least for now. Nothing new with anybody else. Whatever their health issues, whether or not to the point of being officially disabling, they seem to be holding steady. Not getting better but not getting worse either.

    I forgot to turn the furnace back on last night before I went to bed but the house was only 60 when I got up. Not warm certainly but not in the 50s or lower. Still, it was hard to get out from under my warm covers. I’m up and doing now and have things to do at twitter/yapper & Spoutible so I’d best get to them. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  4. Another “why I still love twitter” moment. An astronomer I follow, Katie Mack, posted a Hubble picture, saying it is clearly a space dragon. An author I follow — one of the pair who write as Kit Rocha — is writing a fantasy series they describe as sexy dragon fantasy. So, I rt’d the post from Katie to Bree……
