Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: May 16th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool, shown here with 3 pages of comments available.

  1. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

    It is 64 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 84. Sunny skies are in the forecast.

    I don’t have a lot to say – I have not sleep well for the past few days and it is affecting my ability to concentrate. Or maybe old age is affecting my ability to concentrate! My to-do stack is increasing in size rather than decreasing and I am hoping that many of the things stacked there have been done but have simply not gotten logged. I do have one thing I need to do today but I may just let the rest of it go until tomorrow.

    See all y’all later!

    • Healing Energy & hope you can catch up on the sleep/brain rest – the lack really does muck up the ability to concentrate. moar Healing Energy & {{{Jan}}}

  2. Jan, sorry about the lack of sleep! Sympathy coming to you from the Mid-Atlantic. Without sufficient sleep, one’s energy level is very low.

    Hope you can get some rest this weekend.

  3. Good Saturday morning, Meese. Today is not quite as lovely as our past few days, which were like a shiny unexpected gift from Goddess.

    Today there’s a thin film of cloud over the blue and the sunlight is kind of namby-pamby looking. It may improve later. Right now in Ashburn it’s 71 F., on its way up to 91 F. Therefore I shall get my gardening and exercising done before noon. Afternoons are for sleeping, drinking tea, wondering why I can’t get started on the numerous writing chores I have, and bla bla bla.

    There was a big mix-up this morning about The Green Chef box of food, which was delivered after we had gone to bed. For that reason alone I’d never subscribe to it. It was a gift from my daughter in Texas. She gets one vegetarian delivery a week which she an her husband cook together, so she thought I’d like it too. I chose a shrimp dinner for two. Instead of that, it was hamburgers, pork tenderloin, and chicken cutlets, with assorted vegetable and sauces. WHAT? We had planned to have hamburgers tonight anyway, but I’ve had to get on email to flog the pork and chicken to the neighbors. Most of them don’t cook, so it’s going to be difficult. If there are no takers, we might have to drive it to Younger Son, who lives closer than Elder Son.

    Nothing intelligent to say, except that I hope everyone has a nice, restful weekend planned. Blessed b.l

  4. Ugh. I set my alarm for waaaay too early, got up, was dressed for my walk/run when I heard the rain. Really hard rain. So I laid back down. Now I’m watching Ali Velshi’s morning news show. Will try again, maybe at 9 when the next news show comes on. Got to make tea today, and next week’s overnight oats. Neighbor got extra asparagus in her grocery order, so next week’s dinner is pasta with spinach, mushrooms, artichoke hearts & asparagus. Still trying to think of something easy to make for lunch. I got frozen meals, so I’m good for next week, but really want something homemade. (vegetarian, 30 minutes, not salad because I want to cook on the weekend & be done; and for July I want something that doesn’t need to be reheated, going to try to stay out of the break room)

  5. It’s 66. Might get to upper 70s, might not. It’s overcast and drizzling. As is forecast for the rest of the day. And week. We generated 4.3 KWHs yesterday – m-t-d is 248 – and at this rate won’t reach 300. Not even close to the 379 we did last May with the system off for a week while the roof was replaced. Technically it’s still possible to reach that, even to reach over 400 (although not the over 500 that was possible at the beginning of May) – but it would take bright sunny days for the rest of the month, not cloudy dreary ones. sigh. I hate global warming.

    Nothing’s changed with Amelia, Karen, or Aji – which in itself is not good. As to Jill, LEO has closed the case and pretty much accused her of being “hysterical” so she has no idea whether or not her stage-4 cancer husband and health son are even still alive. TX Highway Patrol talked to somebody who has that cell phone. Nobody has had personal contact with them since they left the cancer center in Santa Fe, NM last Tuesday morning. They had just enough money and gas to get home so how are they eating and getting gas to be several days and several hundred miles east of home? (This is all as of last night. I haven’t connected with anyone yet this morning.)

    My DiL is doing better. My son has adjusted both her diet and her supplements to deal with the health part of the situation while they try to find a way to deal with the money part. With the HVAC blower mostly off I’m getting better sleep but the damp, chill-feeling, dark days aren’t helping my frame of mind any. Other than that I personally am fine. So more coffee and hope it helps. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  6. Good morning, 50 and cloudy in Bellingham. This has been a frustrating week with little done but to stay off my legs. I can finally walk with less pain but I’m grouchy and restless so I’ll need to stay careful today. I should work in the garage, but planting a few plants is prolly the wiser choice.

    Best wishes to all as we make it through another day.
