Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: April 21st

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …

    Morning low of 60 degrees in the Desert Southwest 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 91. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. The moon is nearly full.

    Have a great day, all y’alls!!

    • Hi, Jan, thanks for the welcome to the new week!

      I’ve been lucky, coming out of rehearsal and seeing the moon in the clear night sky. Last time I saw The Pink Moon, She was more than half-full. She’s called the Pink Moon because of strawberries and pink petals, both of which flourish, or begin to, at this time of year.

  2. Good morning. We got rain overnight! And it’s cool this morning, I’ll actually need a sweater. Anyway, the usual Sunday stuff: tea steeping and I’ll cook next week’s breakfast soon. They had Rep. Jasmine Crockett on the MSNBC weekend show. Good segments, and she is definitely going places.

  3. Sunday Meese. 40 here and nippy but sunny, going up to 55. I’m happy that I’ll be spending the afternoon at a drumming for Orisha/goddess Yemaya.

    Puerto Rico

  4. Good Sunday morning, Moosekind! Landsakes, our high today will be 55 F.! And it’s overcast, too. Just hope I can see the full moon on Shakespeare’s birthday, when She is supposed to appear. In fact this whole week will be cool, compared to what we’ve had. Right now in Ashburn it’s 48 F.

    Had the Night from Hell last night. Finally fell asleep about 4 a.m. At least, I think it was 4 a.m. Because I fell asleep watching Netflix last night, I thought I wouldn’t need a sleeping pill. Lawks, was I ever wrong!

    Yesterday Daughter and SIL boarded the 9 a.m. flight from Austin to Dallas, and were delayed HOURS because of heavy storms in Dallas. They sat on the ground in Houston, deplaned, boarded again, deplaned again, and finally boarded and took off. However, they couldn’t get a gate at Love Field! And by the time they deplaned, Avis had relinquished the rental car it had been holdng for them. What a fiasco! Daughter and SIL finally walked into the family reunion at 7:30 p.m. She was kind enough to take lots of photos, which she posted on Facebark.

    Meanwhile, New Orleans niece and her Sig Other, who’d arrived a couple of days before, spent their time visiting the graves of Bonnie and Clyde! Lor’ luv a duck!

    Had a great conversation with Bfitz last night when I couldn’t get hold of Fineena. I’ll try again this afternoon.

    The music and lyrics of “Oklahoma!” are playing in my head 24/7. I dream about it at night. Last night I dreamed that someone made off with my copy of the script after rehearsal, and I was panic-stricken because I hadn’t memorized my lines. LOL! I’m not even IN the play, I’m just sitting next to the Director, writing down missed cues and dialogue and incorrect blocking.

    Well, I’d better make tracks to the grocery store to get something for tonight’s dinner. I cherish my time at home with Dearly, so I don’t feel like going to a restaurant tonight, even the one around the corner. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond, and I am SO thankful that the aid to Ukraine bill finally passed!

  5. It’s 51 heading for 62 and sunny today. Yesterday we generated 14.18 KWHs. The m-t-d is 302.84 and still on track to beat last April with 10 generating days left in the month.

    I talked to Fineena for a few minutes last night. The nurse came in to draw blood for something or other and she was planning/hoping to go to sleep as soon as the nurse left. A friend brought her the phone charger which is very good as the room phone is out of her reach and she’s not supposed to get up unless a nurse is present. Anyway, other than being in pain and not really knowing what’s going on – nobody else seems to either – she sounded good. We’re all hoping the social work department is actually working on those programs they said she qualified for and not leaving it up to her to do the research and apply.

    I’ve finished my Sunday household chores. I hope my hands are better today than they were yesterday. It was very difficult to control the computer mouse yesterday. sigh. Anyway, eating my oatmeal and off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  6. Monday Meese. Sigh -it’s 36 here in Kingston. Supposed to go up to 59 later – and be sunny but I’m not going to bet on it.

    Puerto Rico

    The Republican leadership on the Island congratulated Trump, who – in fact – has rejected statehood for Puerto Rico. “The Republican Party of Puerto Rico congratulates former President Trump for the performance of his candidacy today in Puerto Rico and throughout the Nation…

    “We don’t know your name brother, but may your sales always increase so that you continue sharing with those who are hungry and can’t say it.”

  7. Good morning. Getting ready to go for my procedure. Don’t know how long it will take. They told me to bring snacks. So I have 2 books loaded up on my kindle. Hope that’s enough.

  8. Good Monday morning, Moosekind! After a cold, gloomy, grey Sunday, we woke up to bright sunshine and a freeze warning. It’s 48 F. in Ashburn now, though, going for a high of 63 F. That’s still jeans weather, but okay.

    Had a blissful night’s sleep after taking my sleeping pill. Dearly brought me EMT at 7, which I drank in bed. I stayed there until 8, sending healing white light and energy to people who need it, especially Fineena.

    Talked to her for half an hour last night. We had a pleasant conversation and she sounded perfectly rational, if a little concerned about her situation.

    Daughter and SIL flew home to Austin yesterday afternoon. The flight took 45 minutes, as opposed to the 9 hours on Saturday. They will resume their packing—it’s 18 days until they move to Massachusetts and they’re freaking out.

    Dearly will shortly be on his way to see his dermatologist, who is so beautiful she should be a movie star.

    Have a lot of writing to do today, so I’d better get on with it. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond! I read far too much about Thing on X yesterday, so have not yet turned on the telly today. I read the headlines in the WaPo and ignored the rest.

    A la prochaine, Moosekind.

  9. It’s 50 heading for 70 and sunny. Yesterday we generated 20.88 KWHs and the m-t-d at 323.32 is on track and gained a bit.

    My son’s on his 3rd week of no electricity because since it’s not on SWEPCO’s side of the meter it’s not their problem and they feel no urgency in shutting of power at the meter so an electrician can safely fix it on the customer side of the meter. (Serious fuming over this.) As far as I know everyone’s relatively OK. As in no worse than the last time I talked to them. Which considering that Fineena is still in the hospital, that ain’t great. Oh well, she’s being fed good food on a regular basis without her having to cook it and clean up afterwards. (Which is pretty much why she hasn’t been getting good food on a regular basis for well over a year. She’s not physically capable of doing much in the kitchen.) Hoping the hospital social workers know where NC hide the programs she most certainly qualifies for.

    Anyway, there’s boosting to be done so I’d best get to it. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

    • Can he get his state senator or someone to DO something about the electricity? I’m sure he’s being charged for the electricity he’s not receiving! This is outrageous!

      I’ll try to call Fineena again tonight because I won’t be free in the evening again until Monday.

      • {{{Diana}}} He’s trying a different tack this week. He’s got a planning permit to switch from overhead wiring to underground wiring, which of course he can’t do until they can replace the fried fuse box with the new circuit breaker box, so he’s going to call the construction department and get them to “pull the meter” so his electric guy can do that. SWEPCO is a lot more interested in construction than in maintenance.

        Good idea about calling Fineena again tonight. Have fun talking with her. Then have fun with your show. Moar {{{HUGS}}}

  10. Good morning, meeses! Monday …

    It is 78 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 93. Sunny skies are in the forecast.

    I got up a little late today and then needed to take my walk before it got hot so I can’t stop to read the news – I will catch up on it when I break this afternoon. I was glad to see that Ukraine will get funded. I do hope that Hakeem Jeffries does not make a deal to keep Pastor Mike Johnson in power and second in the line of succession. Any deal he cuts has to be for Republican moderates to vote for Jeffries and a promise that he will allow Johnson to bring crappy bills to the floor for votes. That should be the limit.

    See all y’all later!

  11. Tuesday Meese. 39 going up to 57 here in Kingston. Had a good day yesterday at the end of initiation ceremonies. also – my doc doesn’t want to order more chemo for my lung atm – says the tumor got smaller last treatment.

    MVP:

    • Glad to hear this about your treatment:
      “my doc doesn’t want to order more chemo for my lung atm – says the tumor got smaller last treatment.”

      Prayers lifted for continued success!

    • The Biden Administration is tightening rules related to law enforcement gaining access to women’s abortion records as various red states are mulling going after women who seek abortions outside of their home states. None of this had to happen. I read some headlines yesterday (stories behind paywalls) that Republicans are reaping the whirlwind from the Alito ruling that they begged for over the past 50 years. I hope it shrinks their party so small that it can be flushed down the drain (to paraphrase Grover Norquist). Women should have bodily autonomy without exception and those who deny it should be shunned and run out of office.

    • {{{Dee}}} Yay! for shrinking tumors! & here’s to totally gone tumors. Moar Healing Energy. Moar {{{HUGS}}}

  12. Puerto Rico

  13. Good morning. Procedure yesterday took very little time. The area still hurts some, but when I washed it, it looked fine. Can’t do anything strenuous till the stitches come out, which is a shame because the weather is so lovely & cool.

  14. Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …

    It is 59 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 90. Sunny skies are in the forecast. The nearly full moon rose over the mountains last night between two ridges and she was beautiful framed by the alpenglow! This morning she is up in the west-southwest sky at about 99.8% illumination beaming into my office. She will be full today at 4:48pm MST and behind the mountains at that time but we will see her nearly full (but waning) after 7:30pm or so.

    I shall ignore the news today and finish my percolating projects this morning. I deferred a few projects until mid-May and will work on getting current projects buttoned up and delivered.

    See all y’all later!

  15. Good Tuesday morning, Meese, and happy Shakespeare’s birthday! He’d have been 460 years old today. I am so glad Good Queen Bess liked plays and wanted to see plays, because without her blessing Shakespeare and the Globe would have been shut down. Bloody Puritans, their descendants are still making our lives miserable.

    Today is a very important day, as it’s the Invitational Dress Rehearsal. The cast is required to be in full costume and makeup by 5 p.m. They’ve all worked so hard since mid-January. I’m proud of them and enthralled with our 83-year-old Director, K. We’re all doing this as volunteers and K. doesn’t even live here.

    We have a “full glorious morning” in Ashburn, although we began the day with a freeze warning. Right now it’s a tiresome 47 F., going up to 73 F. later, so I’ll have to change to shorts.

    We have carpet cleaners AND the guys taking away the oxygen concentrator this morning, so there will be a complicated dance.

    Well, Stanley Steemer are on their way, so I’d better get going! Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

  16. It’s 60 heading for 77 and sunny today. Yesterday we generated 21.39 KWHs, highest for the month even with the oak tree leafed out. The m-t-d is 344.5, on track and gaining ground. Or at least building cushion for the cloudy & maybe rainy days starting tomorrow.

    I talked to Fineena last night. She’d had a bad day – nausea – and was pissed she couldn’t convince the nursing staff to bring her a Coke to settle her stomach. Well, she IS diabetic and they’ve just gotten her stabilized so I kind of don’t blame them. But they also wouldn’t give her any nausea meds because they aren’t listed on her chart. And to add insult, for the first & hopefully only time, the food they brought her were things that make her nauseous anyway (anything with raisins does it to her, also sweet potatoes). She did talk to the doctor yesterday morning. He told her the one set of test results they got back were inconclusive and they were waiting for the results of the 2nd set.

    I’ve got to get my laundry on. Too warm for fires so I need to hang it outside on this lovely but last sunny day this week. Then off to start my boosting day while the washing machine does it’s thing. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  17. Good morning, 48 and mostly cloudy outside my windows today. It’s been a busy few days with family, celebrating our son’s 54th birthday. I did bake a cake and make some flowers, all while seated on my rolling walker. I’ve had an explosion of knee/back pain resulting in a marked weakness in my right leg so I’ve struggling a bit. Apparently the angle of the dental chair last week caused a pinched nerve in my spine so that’s why. I saw the PT yesterday and got some tempoary relief and have a plan to manage the next dental appointment so that’s progress. I would like to finish the implant and have a new tooth but will wait a few more weeks.

    I’m following the tRump trial news but trying to not focus too much on the miserable mess his very existence has made in this country. How can so many people continue to support him! I’ll never understand.

    As always, my best wishes to all.

    • {{{princesspat}}} So glad to see you. I’d started to get worried. Wonderful that you & your family had a nice celebration. Good that you’ve got some pain relief – and a plan to not get damaged by your next dental visit. Healing Energy. Moar {{{HUGS}}}

    • The tRump trial is filling the news and the only comfort one can take is that most of the headlines suggest that he is physically miserable having to sit there. I hope they toss his orange grossitude into the clink for his defiance of the gag order. Apparently they are looking for places suitable to accommodate his Secret Service detail; there are closed wings of some city jails that they can use but it would probably take a bit to get them ready for habitation again. I am sure he wouldn’t mind sharing space with rats, he has spent most of his adult life with them!

  18. Good morning. I voted, we have a very non-publicized election for the appraisal board — which seems like important people. Anyway, more wfh today, and trying to move some without sweating. Stitches still hurt some, but it’s ok. At least I have astronomy to watch.

  19. It’s 57 going to 76 and sunny at the moment. We’re supposed to get definitely clouds and maybe rain later today. Yesterday we generated 14.6 KWHs and the m-t-d at 359 is still on track.

    Talked to Fineena last night. She still doesn’t know anything. She’s not sure anybody does. She had another bad day – gastric upset – and asked them to cut back on one of the meds to see if that would help. Maybe it did. She was feeling better and getting sleepy as we talked.

    Yesterday I managed to get the laundry done, out, and back in before the clouds moved in. Hoping I can do a grocery store run today. We’ll see what the weather is doing once I’ve finished my first & longest round of boosting. My hands aren’t happy, especially with a cat scratch just above my wrist I just managed to get to stop bleeding. Acquired this morning when Cloud decided he wanted to jump into a drawer I was closing as I was closing it. sigh. Oh well. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
