Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: June 6th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool, shown here with 3 pages of comments available.

  1. So Austin has has a mass shooting, 13 people. New hasn’t reported any deaths, but 2 in critical condition; they showed police giving someone cpr in the street. It is ten million degrees (ok, 77 but hugely humid so probably heat index in the 80s). Going to do some cooking this morning so I can go to the gym this afternoon, or tomorrow afternoon.

  2. Getting up with the sun is earlier in June. It’s also the coolest time of day so I can enjoy having the windows open for a bit. I gave up and turned the A/C on yesterday. That means the 18.5 KWHs we generated were just about enough to cover usage. And brought the m-t-d to 151. Looking at the weather widget, I’m going to have to run it again today. But at least for now the forecast shows the humidity dropping as of tomorrow so hopefully I won’t need the A/C for at least a couple of weeks after today.

    The LW is our “enemy within” – their insistence that elected Dems do what they want right now whether we’ve got the authority to (or it’s even legal to do the way they want it done) or they won’t vote cost us Congress in 2010 and 2014 (among other things, put Tom “Christofascist” Cotton into that R-controlled Senate in 2014) and the White House in 2016. No matter how much damage they cause us, it’s always our fault because we didn’t magically – or violently – overthrow the government ourselves and use unconstitutional despotic powers to do what they want. By our fingernails and toenails we have authority to do some of what they want, but of course some – especially not exactly the way they want it done – isn’t good enough for them. & since it’s not good enough, everything should be handed over to the Rs to make worse so when it gets bad enough the glorious revolution (like the 1/6/21 attack on the Capitol) will happen and give all the power to them. Well, us old fogeys know what’s meant by the phrase “the call was from inside the house” – and that’s what we’ve got with the LW. Not cutting the Rs – or the blue dogs – any slack on doing the evil. But I’m not cutting the LW any slack for enabling it either.

    If AR was vaxxed, I’d be at the Farmers Market right now. Yes, still masked. But there. Since we’re not – at 35% last I looked – and I would bet money the ones not masked are part of the 65% not vaxxed. . . Nope. So more coffee and over to Twitter while I drink it. Then close up the house and turn the A/C back on. Devoutly hoping it doesn’t come on when I turn it on. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  3. Good Saturday morning, Meese! It’s quite ugly outside today, with the sky completely covered by gray clouds. Currently in Ashburn it’s 64 F., rising later to 79 F. We’ll have lower humidity. On Thursday and Friday we received ALL the rain we normally would have received in May and the first half of June. So far we have progressed from four inches under par to three. I’ll be interested to check tomorrow’s stats.

    We had a good time at Elder Son’s house yesterday. His house is always on the chilly side, and both he and Younger Son keep their houses very dark. I asked The Graduate if he would like me to read the rest of Captain Underpants, Volume 2, to him but he replied no, he just wanted to relax. Well, that suited me! I nodded off for 15 minutes reading a book on my iPad while he watched some sort of cartoon on his Kindle.

    Later DIL and I had a conversation about the loathsome series, Captain Underpants, and the equally loathsome Dog Man series. Mindy and I deplored the scatological content of the books but Elder Son, who was listening, said anything that got kids reading was okay. DIL agreed and said the obsesson with poop and toilets was “boy stuff.” Dear Goddess!

    Anyway, Ethan’s Mom and Dad videoed as much as they could of the graduates’ presentation of “The Three Little Pigs,” which they enacted in Spanish. It was quite entertaining.

    This morning I discovered the intense pain I’m experiencing in my right foot is not solely due to the usual complaint but to arthritis. I must Google what to about it. It’s like gout, but not in the big toe. Pain kept me awake until 1 a.m.

    Hoping this will be a very slow day after the intensity of the past week. May all at the Pond have an enjoyable Saturday.

  4. Good morning, 58 and sunny outside my window today, but the weather page says it’s cloudy and ready to rain. I hope to be in the garden today but if the predicted monsoon arrives I’ll stay busy indoors :) Best wishes to all.
