Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

  1. Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …

    Morning low of 70 degrees in the Desert Southwest with an expected daytime high of 90. Sunny skies are in the forecast.

    • This morning, my clocks are unchanged but everyone to the east of me is an hour closer and everyone to the west of me is now an hour further away. I am glad because I only need to get up at 5am – instead of 4am – to get 3 hours of quiet time on my Central Time clients’ networks before they start working.

      I am not sure what happened to my weather widget but it is 59 degrees, not 70 although the expected daytime high is still 88. I hope everyone is enjoying their extra hour of sleep – I know that I did!

  2. Good evening from the Singapore River, where it’s currently 30 degrees Celsius (83 degrees Fahrenheit). Apart from the humidity, this could be good weather for bfitz. LOL

    • Ha, ha, basket. Once someone asked Lee Kwan Yew what he thought was the greatest invention of the 20th century. “Air conditioning,” Yew replied.

      Looking back, I don’t know how we managed in those hot tropical afternoons in 1950s Singapore. We had ceiling fans, of course, and my sister and I slept under mosquito nets. My parents’ bedroom was the only air-conditioned room in the house.

    • {{{basket}}} It’s still pretty good weather for me in the daytime. I can’t sleep in 80s and humidity though. I hope you’re not trying to. LOL.

  3. Good Sunday morning, Moosekind. My laptop says it’s 6:31 a.m. I just had my worst night in a year. Unable to fall asleep, couldn’t get comfortable, up and down all night for the usual reason. It was awful.

    Today I plan not to do much. The sky has lightened, although full daylight has not yet arrived.

    The One-Act Play Festival ended its run last night. Our team was glad it was over, but we did have fun. Also, considering we had such a late start advertising the Festival, it was surprisingly well attended! I was glad, because a lot of people worked very hard to bring it off. One of the actors on my team is 90 years old! One of the makeup artists is also 90. Trust me, just because we’re old doesn’t mean we’re sitting in rocking chairs, biting on apples with one tooth.

    I think I’ll slink back to the green chair for a while. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

  5. Good morning. Watching the New York marathon, sort of watching the news, but mostly the marathon. Got my tea steeping, this afternoon I’ll make next week’s breakfast and lunch. Love the smell of my tea. It is warm, in the 60s; maybe I’ll take a walk this afternoon – it’ll be in the 80s but still pleasant.

  7. It’s 69 heading for 73 and more or less sunny, sort of. We generated 5.8 KWHs yesterday and the m-t-d at 27.35 is still on track for 200.

    My friend came over this morning, bearing lattes, and we had a nice visit before she drove off with the little kitty (and a “starter kit” of the litter & food he’d been using plus a couple of kitty toys). Next step is integrating the kitty with her 2 dogs. 🙏🕯🤞

    All my household chores got done just before she arrived. Now I more than a bit late to get started online so I’d best get to it. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  8. Good afternoon, 59 and the sun is shinning on the falling leaves, It rained hard in the night so a bit of sunshine before the next rain is most welcome. I’ve been quiet today, just reading and resting, so it’s past time to try to get something besides laundry done. RonK baked an apple pie earlier so the house smells tasty. So grateful he is feeling better. As always, my best wishes to all.

  9. Good evening/morning meeses. My sister left for Australia today and I leave back to the US on Thursday morning Singapore time. Bfitz, I used to be able to sleep with a fan but now I need air conditioning. I’ve gotten spoiled.

  10. Good Monday Meese. 32 going up to 53 here in Kingaton. Looking forward to going to the polls tomorrow to vote. Lots of local elections.

  11. Good morning. I logged in to my work computer to be sure I had automatic replies on for my absence. Lucky that I don’t have to leave for the appointment until after the astronomy show I like is over. Really warm for November, high in the upper 80s.

  12. Good morning, meeses! Monday …

    It is 63 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 86. Sunny skies are in the forecast. We managed to avoid turning on the air conditioning yesterday but just barely. We trapped the morning coolness inside and it lasted to about 6pm then we just had to deal with 81 inside for about an hour until it cooled down enough to open windows. Close call! We might have a couple more upper 80 daytime highs but the days are shorter so the cooldown happens more quickly.

    I did not follow the news much over the weekend as the headlines are trying to get clicks about Joe Biden’s terrible approval ratings and tRump beating him next year. The two are linked, of course. People responding to polls are expressing their dissatisfaction with Joe Biden. But that does not mean they will not vote for him if the choice is between him and the literal dissolution of our democracy. Plus the election is 12 months away. I did read that Youngkin’s brand of Republicanism is no more popular than trumpism and that we might see a huge outpouring of buyers remorse in the Virginia elections tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

    I got a lot of tweaky little things done over the weekend and am heading into the week with a plan to knock off a couple of good sized projects.

    • Jan, it comforts me to know that Goobernator Dumbkin lost Loudoun County by 13,000 votes, a fact the WaPo was careful to conceal for quite some time.

      I’m disregarding polls.

  13. Good Monday moaning, Moosekind! It’s 46 F. and another beautiful day in Ashburned. Our high today will be 64 F. I know y’all get tired of my bleating about the rainfall deficit, but it’s now 11 inches for the year. We may or may not receive some rainfall on Friday.

    This week is going to be hellish. Errands and a “Friends of Bill” meeting today, plus reading through 10 essays. Tomorrow, the election, getting hair done, and it’s to be hoped, passing out sample ballots here at The Home. Wednesday is an “empty square on the calendar day,” thank Goddess; Thursday, I have to bake tiny pumpkin spice muffins for my writers, who will meet at 1:30; Friday morning an endoscopy, after which I have to bake two sets of brownies (one with walnuts and one without) for the Bazaar on Saturday morning; and then lunch with friends.

    Went through some ancient photos last night and found a wedding invitation issued from Dearly’s grandparents about the wedding of Dearly’s mother and father. It was dated 1924! As you can imagine, it was yellowed, tiny, and difficult to read.

    I’m trying not to feel diminished by Certain Persons, and to get on with my own stuff. There’s all too little time.

  14. It’s 65 heading for 79 and sunny, at least at the moment. A bit breezy too but I’ve got the windows open airing out the house anyway. Yesterday we generated 6.5 KWHs and the m-t-d at 33.3 is still on track for 200. Barely.

    I haven’t heard back from my friend so I’m assuming the little cat is settling in and the dogs are going to be OK with it. I’m not expecting miracles and don’t think they decided to be snugglebuddies from the beginning, if at all, of course. But tolerating with no hissing and barking would be very good.

    My sister Alice & her husband will be stopping by on their way to Denver – my nephew’s hopefully last “cleaning everything up” surgery for his cancer later this week. My son will bring pizza and we’ll have dinner together before they head on their way. (They’re staying overnight with a friend in MO – then it will be a straight and boring drive across KS tomorrow. At least that’s the plan.)

    There’s too much evil going on in the world. We do what we can. And what I can is boost stuff. So off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

    • Kansas is the worst state to travel across. Their tea party governor bulldozed the way stations years ago rather than spend taxpayer money on people who are not Kansans. Plus boring plus no trees plus did I say boring?

  15. I’m home. Mouth is still numb. They told me to take 3 ibuprofen, so I ate some mashed potatoes. Next thing is make a dentist appointment for the permanent crown. But I’m ok.

  16. And my sister just called. They’ve changed plans & have reserved a slot at the local RV park so they can spend the night in Fayetteville and we can have a longer visit. They expect to be here around 4. So that will be nice.

  17. Good afternoon, 53 and rain showers. I’m working at my desk today but am easily distracted. One of my tasks is to review/compare supplemental insurance plans for next year but it’s complicated. I tried to get RonK to do it but he has asked me so many questions I took all the paperwork back…..think that was his plan! Oh well, I’ll muddle on and try again tomorrow. Best wishes to all.

  19. Good morning. Got the root canal done yesterday. I’m really surprised about how little discomfort there is. I took 3 ibuprofen with lunch (mashed potatoes) and dinner (mashed potatoes with some spinach & mushrooms mixed in) but I don’t need anything today. First appointment for the crown is Thursday. Got my walk done, it’s warm enough that I have my window & door open to let in fresh air. Watching astronomy & getting ready for work.

  20. It’s 68 heading for 82 and sunny. Yesterday we generated just over 6 KWHs and the m-t-d at 39.5 is not on track for 200 but is still OK for over 180.

    My sister and I had a lovely visit last night. Mostly we talked about Momma and our sibs but also Momma’s sibs, our cousins, and everybody’s kids. My son and her husband (who’d never met before) had a great time, too. The pizza and salad were good, too. LOL. Hopefully they’ll visit more often. Equally hopefully the reason they’re passing through Fayetteville won’t be the same next time and this last cancer treatment will be the end of my nephew’s health problems. Anyway, they’re back on the road to Denver at this point.

    My wrist has subluxed – actually Sunday while I was vacuuming – and hasn’t reset itself. I’m wearing a wrist brace and hoping for the best. There’s stuff I need to get done before the rain and cold weather move back in. Meanwhile there’s stuff online to do and I guess I’ll get to it. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
